Chapter 51 - Finding our groove.

Viktoria’s POVI couldn’t believe that we were actually married as I lay in the early morning light studying Fynn’s face. My revelation of the night before still rang in my mind. I was madly in love with Fynn. I had been ever since I stayed with the pack. I would never admit it to anybody, not even Fynn, but over the past couple of years, I read everything I could find about the beasts. Our library didn’t have much, unfortunately, but it did have the basics that explained how their ranking system worked, which, of course, the ancient had put into place, choosing only the strongest of the beasts for the higher ranks. It also covered that they had destined mates, but not who decided on that destiny. I figured out why Fynn was so in love with me and why we had to go through that rejection thing for him to leave me alone, but it seemed as though whatever we did, didn’t exactly stick. I sneaked out of bed and out of our room to feed and was met by two beasts outside my door! They introduce

Chapter 52 - Killing the ancient - Part 1

Viktoria’s POVI had to think quickly, but Fynn was faster than me as he promptly told my father at most, we needed about two days to check on one or two details. I smiled as I looked at my husband. He knew something. I knew he knew something that he hadn’t shared with anyone yet! Fynn knew those books of theirs inside and out. He left right after our meeting to oversee the move of the books to our library while I made space for their collection. My father had agreed to give us two days. He agreed that if we could find something more substantial to protect our people, we had to do it. I could finally breathe for the first time since my father told me what his plan was. I didn’t want to take the chance that only my blood would save them.I also have to admit that having the beast books back in our library felt good. It felt right. Fine, so I didn’t want to marry Fynn at first, but now I am glad I did. I loved him. Having these two days to find our answer also gave us the opportunity to

Chapter 53 - I am a day walker.

Viktoria’s POVIn the fourth hour, I could hear the witch start to chant and by now, I could feel that the ancient was fully awake. I could feel that he wasn’t strong enough to do anything yet, but there was a clear tugging sensation in my mind. I knew it was him trying to get in like he did before and I couldn’t allow it. I caught a glimpse of Fynn as he walked over to the door to check on me and my father. He frowned and whispered something in my mother’s ear and she nodded. I must have shown signs of distress because in an instant my father was beside me.“Viktoria, are you okay?” He looked worried as he put his hand on my forehead and I realized that my forehead was clammy. I had been concentrating so hard to stop the ancient from getting through that I didn’t even notice I was perspiring! My father quickly moved me over to where Fynn and my mother were waiting and Fynn shouted for the witch to stop.“NO! If we stop now, we won’t be able to do this for at least another year!” I sh

Chapter 54 - We are having a baby!

Viktoria’s POV“Are you a day walker?” My father hissed. I sighed. There was no getting out of it now. Fynn growled the moment my father gripped my arm and pulled me into one of the empty rooms near the front door. I could understand why my father was upset. Since he brought me into the castle the first time, he had been open and kind, and I had hidden one of the most important things from him. I pulled from his grip and took a deep breath before explaining how I found out that I was a day walker by accident. It wasn’t as if I was really trying to hide it, I just didn’t go around announcing it to everybody. My father had so many questions that he overwhelmed me a little and Fynn had to step in. He understood the implications of what this could mean for us.“Wait a minute.” My father frowned. “The ancient is the only other day walker we know of.” I could see the wheels in his mind turning as he came to realize what I already knew. I was just as strong as the ancient. I might not yet be

Chapter 55 - The birth of Friedrich

Viktoria’s POV“It’s a boy!” The doctor shouted, sounding as if he had just won the biggest prize. Silence fell as all eyes turned to me. I looked at Fynn who was wiping my hair from my forehead.“We have a son.” I smiled as a nurse rushed to my side and started to flashlight into my eyes. I could feel the tension in the room while the doctor was still doing something down there. All the eyes in the room were darting from me to him and back until he finally told us that it looked as if everything was going to be okay. I wasn’t bleeding abnormally like normal vampire females did when they gave birth and he couldn’t find anything else wrong with me. A loud sigh of relief rushed over everyone and I told Fynn to let me go so he could look after our son.A couple of minutes later, they brought little Friedrich to me and Fynn softly placed him in my arms. He was the most perfect porcelain doll I had ever seen, and then he scrunched up his little button nose and tears started to stream down

Chapter 56 - The ancient is turned into ash.

Viktoria’s POVWith all the new developments that were taking place, I was relieved to note that my father had given up on badgering me about the ancient for a while. I could still feel his presence each time I walked into the library and it had been over six months since the day we tried to get rid of him. The witch had become a permanent resident in the castle and she was also doing her own research to find out if there was any way for us to unlink from his sire line, but I was slowly starting to lose hope. My father wasn’t going to be busy with the new additions forever. The time would come when he would want to try again. In the meantime, I watched with awe and fear how our son was growing at an alarming rate, which made me happy that I could be with him as much as possible before we tried that damn spell again. The next six months passed by so quickly that it felt as if I just blinked my eyes and it was all over again. We are right back to where we started a year ago. Friedrich w

Chapter 57 - Another 3 years lost!

Viktoria’s POVFynn looked older and it was a shock to my system to see him as he slowly picked me up out of the coffin. Friedrich eagerly explained that after we killed the ancient, I fell into a coma that the doctors couldn’t explain. I remember the incredible weight I felt pushing down on me before everything went dark. Friedrich looked at Fynn, who nodded before they told me that I had missed out on three years of everybody’s lives. When it became clear that I wasn’t waking up, my father suggested that they move me to the coffin to protect my body.To make sure I was fed, they connected the tubes that we used for the ancient, and that way they knew I would wake up when I was ready. Nobody had ever attempted what we had done, which meant nobody knew if I would ever wake up. I was relieved to find out that all of our people survived and nobody died due to a link to the ancient. We did it. We broke the link with him.“But,” My father looked sad and I could see he was having a hard ti

Chapter 58 - A new king and queen.

Viktoria’s POVAs we walked through the gardens, my people greeted me and I could see the tough times they had all been through these past couple of years. Things weren’t all smooth sailing, but by the looks of things, they did eventually figure it all out. Once the troublemakers were out of the way, things became easier and people started to live in harmony. The people were relieved that I was awake, and I could feel their love for me radiate off them as we walked past. It was slowly giving me strength. I realized that it was almost like our prayers that gave our saints their strength. I burst out laughing and was forced to explain to Fynn what I was thinking, but he didn’t seem to find it funny. His face was entirely serious when he told me that it was very possible that our people’s belief in me gave me strength. There was so much we didn’t know about the ancient and his powers. Not everything had been written down. Especially what happened in the early years of the ancient, before

Chapter 59 - Friedrich's wolf.

Viktoria’s POVEvery year Friedrich’s birthday came and went, but none was as important as the year he was meant to turn fourteen. Each year we waited patiently to see if he shifted on his birthday and each year he was disappointed. Our son no longer looked like a young boy. He was a grown man compared to all his friends who were celebrating their birthdays with him. Today, Friedrich would join his friends for the shifting ceremony. It wouldn’t matter if he shifted or not, it could always happen later in his life, but today was the day. I could feel it. It was in the air around him.I didn’t tell Fynn what I was feeling, but there was excitement growing in the pit of my stomach. I had watched Friedrich train during the day and he was the spitting image of his father. Tall and handsome. He will be a great king one day. I didn’t allow myself to think about the possibility that he might not even live that long thanks to the rate at which he grew. I just kept my mind on the good things we

Chapter 60 - A new king is revealed.

Viktoria’s POVThey not only had their first run in their wolf forms but also had the opportunity to fight for our kingdom. Over the past ten years, we have been able to upgrade our entire kingdom and bring us into the twenty-first century where technology is concerned. We even had vampires working in the human world now, but when it came to protecting our kingdom, not a lot had changed. We still had to hide it from the general human population. People never ever accepted what they didn’t understand and to make sure we protected our survival, we kept the laws pretty strict. No wolf or vampire was ever allowed to tell a human what they really were. There was only one exception and that was if a human was a wolf’s mate. I learned how incredibly important it was to the wolves that they be with the one they were destined to be with and how incredibly much it could hurt if they weren’t from my own experiences. Vampires still kept to ourselves and the furthest we would dwell was if a wolf p
