Then, his eyes flashed amber. Raging amber-gold.The silence broke, and suddenly, everyone was talking at once to each other. Smatterings of the sentences were able to be made out, while some weren't."What!? Shit, the King's wolf is close to the surface..." Alpha Ratinus."I think we have angered the wolf...!" Alpha Asisy."Shit, I didn't expect this...!" Head Sentinel Rodarh."Hades, we have been planning on how to punish and devour his mate...!? Right in front of him?" Alpha Morose, the phyton alpha."How did he hold out for that long...? I wouldn't have been able to." Alpha Zane."It's the first time he's losing a bit of control in front of us, shows how enraged the Alpha King is...!" Head Sentinel Rodarh."I have no hand in this at all...!" Alpha Ratinus."Please, do calm down, Alpha King. We will not harm your mate." Adanel spoke up finally to the Alpha King, leaning forward to convey his own sincerity. "We have no intentions of ever harming a mate. Ever.""I am calm, Head Senti

Eline looked her straight in the eyes, "You truly do not know that you are the Alpha King's mate?""His mate?" Ismena's eyes widened, "Is that supposed to be a joke?""I'd hope so, but you're scenting like our King, so I wouldn't understand what kind of joke that will be if it was one." Ismena laughed, she couldn't help herself. The woman looked all too serious with this joke of hers. She might not understand everything about this world yet, but at least Wolfariane has told her a thing or two about mates. "I'll have you know that your King does not like me at all. So, there's no way I'll be his mate.""People are blind, but fate is not. The moon goddess has the future all planned out. Sometimes, mates don't like each other at the beginning, but fate has something beautiful stored for them together." Eline thought about it worriedly, pain masked her features, "I don't understand this one at all. You? For the Alpha King?"Ismena arched her brow upwards, "That sounds insulting. You say

Four Days LaterIsmena is having the most horrible of nightmares. It was so horrible that she woke up screaming at the top of her voice.Footsteps padded the floor before the door swung open and Eline was right there in her bedroom in battle mood. "What is it!? Who is that...!?"Ismena was breathing hard, sweat pouring from her body, her heart pounding soundly in her chest. "It...was...just a nightmare!" She gasped loudly."Oh, thank the Moon Goddess, I was so worried." Eline walked towards her and lowered herself onto Ismena's bed. "How bad is this nightmare that it left you feeling this way?"Ismena shook her head. She can't remember what it is. No matter how badly she tried to remember, she is unable to do so. But the fear of it has her body shaking, she was almost on the verge of tears."I-I can't remember..." She gasped, grabbing her chest and squeezing tightly. It isn't her heart condition this time around, but the terror of the nightmare she can't even remember.Eline stayed, p

"She's almost seventeen. Just finished high school. She always wanted to be a nurse. I told her that I'll be there when she becomes one." She swallowed tightly, "Guess, I wouldn't be there after all."Eline was silent. Then, "You asked why I'm telling you all about the Alpha King even though humans cannot be trusted?" She took a deep breath, "Well, the truth is that I'm rooting for you and the King. He has suffered so damn much, it changed him and his perspective on life. You are his lifemate. He is alone...always alone. Surrounded by people but very much alone. It's so sad.""Suffered? What happened to him?"The silence that followed was deafening. They cut through another path that leads to their home. Eline contemplated how much to say, and how much not to say. Not that she knows all the details—no one knows that but only the Alpha King and the other males involved."You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I wouldn't like to put you in trouble with your Alpha King for sayi

The wolf refused repeatedly, but the mountain lion did not give up. This time around, he stalked closer to the wolf, lowered himself to his haunches, and pressed his huge forehead to the wolf's.Also, it raised a huge forepaw and pressed on the wolf's jaw repeatedly. A gesture filled with affection...guilt and pain. The wolf growled low in its throat. The mountain lion did the same, waiting for the wolf out so patiently. Finally, amber eyes with invisible wounds to the soul closed, and the wolf whimpered in defeat and surrender.
