Chapter 41: After Sunset

Waverly entered the living room and sat down on the couch beside Isadore, handing her and Finn their drinks. "So, Sawyer…" Isadore smirked. Waverly snickered, even though her body trembled and recoiled at his name. "What about him?" "No one ever told me the Crimson Wolf was so…H*ll, I'm kind of regretting you taking my place," Isadore stated, shoving Waverly gently. "It's not all you think it's made out to be, you know," Waverly noted. "What're you talking about?!" Isadore exclaimed. "This is every girl's dream!" "That depends," Finn interrupted. "Have you had a connection?" Waverly thought back to the evening in Sawyer's office when she first felt their bond. She was so scared at first that he didn't feel it too. Her mind wandered, leading her to question…could she have ruined their bond? "Yeah, we have," was all Waverly replied as she picked at her fingernails. "So, then what's the problem?" Isadore urged, noticing the low countenance of her sister. Waverly debate

Chapter 42: Get Out

Instantaneously, Waverly ducked and rolled out of the way. Her body crashed against the gravel and an electric amount of pain rushed through her once injured arm. She lifted herself up onto her elbow, attempting to gauge her strength. However, the wolf launched at her, pinning her to the ground. He growled at her, showing each of his large incisors as he opened his mouth. Waverly stretched her arm out, reaching for the stick that was beside her, while holding the wolf at bay with her other arm. She grabbed a hold of the stick and pushed it into the wolf's mouth, using the ends of it to her advantage to push the beast off of her. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. All humans were conscious to what was taking place around them when they were in wolf form, so why didn't this one? It was like it couldn't decipher what was happening around it and was acting out of pure instinct. Waverly scurried to her feet and took multiple steps back away. The wolf took another jump at her, thi

Chapter 43: Home Is Where the Heart Is

Waverly waited in the entry with her shoes and jacket on, for Finn and Isadore to wake up. After her final argument with Sawyer that morning, everything seemed to simply blur together like she was living a sequence of dreams. She didn't even remember leaving the staircase and returning to her bedroom, where she spent the remainder of the morning contemplating what Sawyer had said to her. Did he truly mean it? He'd rather die than have her here? Her heart sunk and she swallowed down the tears that tried to push through at the thought of it. Her legs started to give way, as she hadn't regained much of her strength, and she collapsed against the table in the entry. "Waverly!" Isadore exclaimed as she raced down the stairs and into her sister's arms. "Here, I've got you. Why are you standing?! You should be resting!" Waverly snivelled and wiped away the tears under her eyes with her sleeve. "I-I can't." Isadore bent down to look into Waverly's eyes and saw tears fall and hit the fl

Chapter 44: Cold Blooded Murder

Waverly watched as the sun rose the next morning. She gathered her clothes and threw a bag over her shoulder, heading down the stairs for a quick bite to eat. After a few days of rest, she felt more energetic than she had recently, even with a scratched-up arm. "Morning, dear," Aviana greeted as Waverly descended the stairs. She smiled and made her way to their small island and sat down. Aviana placed a plate of pancakes in front of her and Waverly sniffed up the scent. "Mmm, what's the special occasion?" she asked, taking a bite of the steaming food."Your success," her mother replied. "And also, you. I'm so proud of you, baby." "I second that," her father said, coming around the corner from the staircase. "You'll make one heck of a Luna." He bent down and kissed the top of her head and then acknowledged her mother in a more affectionate manner. "How did you guys—" "Isadore," they both said at the same time. Her parents laughed and for the first time since her arrival, Wave

Chapter 45: Proof, I'm Yours

Waverly was unable to comprehend everything she had discovered. She looked around her to see where she was and realized just how far into the forest she had really gone. The trees covered the sky, but the sun peeked out from behind a branch, enough that she could regain her sense of direction. She turned around and headed from where she came. She had to get to the mansion and tell Sawyer—no matter how scared she was to see him and regardless of their feelings for one another, he needed to know. Waverly launched forward and landed in the clearing where she started at the edge of the forest. She then made a sharp turn and followed the tree line to Trinity Mountains. The air burned her eyes as she sailed ahead, but she didn't care—if Christopher was behind everything and was working with Matteus, she had to get to Sawyer, and fast. She didn't know what it had to do with the Lunar Eclipse; she was only certain that it was something bigger than anyone could have imagined. As the mansi

Chapter 46: The Lunar Eclipse

Sawyer's eyes fell to the document again. He looked as if he was processing everything that she had told him. It was a lot for her to take in, she couldn't imagine what it was like for him. "Sawyer?" Waverly asked after a few minutes of silence. "Just give me a minute," he said, raising his hand. He kept still; his eyebrows were wrinkled as he concentrated on a spot on the table. Then, he lifted his gaze to meet hers; they were pained and for the first time, he had realized that she could be on to something. "Are you okay?" she questioned, stepping closer to him. "I—" he let out a sigh. Waverly reached out and put a hand over his across the table, and he didn't pull back. Her thumb rubbed the back of his hand, tenderly and instead of rejecting her, he put his other hand on top of hers. "I'm sorry," she said, looking back into his eyes. "For what?" "For…well, for a lot. This—but also a few nights ago. I didn't mean to go against your word…I really thought I would be safe

Chapter 47: It's All About Survival

Waverly perceived herself in the mirror that hung over the vanity in her bedroom. She ran her hands down the long, flowing baby blue dress that accentuated her auburn hair, which was done in loose curls. She grabbed a pin off of the table and clipped back both sides of her hair and then adjusted it with her fingers. On the tabletop, sat the box of jewels Sawyer had given to her not long after she came to the mansion and if any time was an appropriate time to wear them, it was tonight. She bent over and opened the lid, the jewels glistening in the sunlight. Waverly grabbed the pearl necklace that sat on top and clasped it around her neck, letting her fingers slide across them once they were done up. To think, the last time these were worn, they were on the neck of Sawyer's mother and now, she couldn't be prouder than to wear them on such a momentous evening. Waverly gave herself one last look over before heading out the door and towards the entry. At the exact same time, she saw Saw

Chapter 48: Return of the Wolves

Waverly couldn't tell where she was anymore. She felt like she was floating in mid-air in some other world. Looking in front of her, she saw the shadow man. His light-grey figure allowed her to see some features from a distance, such as his tall frame and distinct jaw. He started walking towards her and the closer he got, the more in focus he became until he was clear. It was Sawyer. Her eyes shot open and she looked to the sky. The sun was past the moon and down behind the mountains with the stars now lighting up the evening sky. Waverly cast her eyes to her hand, which was left dangling alone. Horrified, she tossed her gaze upwards and saw Sawyer standing there, in all of his perfection, turning his hands inside and out in amazement. He faced her and both of them stood still, looking at each other wide-eyed. "It…"Was this a dream? Soon, she was going to wake up in her bed in Boulder Creek, and the past day would be just a wishful fantasy. She watched as a green-like mist swirle

Chapter 49: The Last Wolf Standing

Both Sawyer and Waverly looked in all directions. Wolves entered from the bushes and trees, creeping towards them, their eyes glowing in the moonlight. They were fenced in. Everything seemed to move in slow motion as Waverly caught the stare of the black wolf who she had fought not long ago: Matteus. He shot her a wink with his bright green eyes and then, almost instantly, all of the wolves charged. Waverly let go and let her wolf form take full control, growling as soon as her paws hit the ground. A wolf she didn't recognize lunged for the others, who were still unchanged, and attacked, knocking them down and freeing Christopher. Christopher devilishly smiled and switched, becoming the animal version of himself. His teeth were exposed and he immediately locked eyes with Sawyer. Christopher raced forward, meeting Sawyer, who had also transformed, in the middle. All around her, fights had ensued and as one wolf charged her, Waverly stood on her hind legs, swiping the animal directly

Chapter 50: The True Alpha

After the Lunar Eclipse, Waverly stopped seeing the shadow man. Instead of in her dreams, he now appeared to her in real-life, in the form of her mate, Sawyer Einar. Except every now and then, she would still sketch the mysterious figure, who began more as a silhouette and now, resembled a darkened, black mass. Waverly sat in the chair by the window, just as she had done when she arrived at Trinity Mountains over seven months ago, only now, she was in the art room that Sawyer had commissioned for her. Her reflection bounced off the glass standing between her the town below, which was exploding with wolves and people alike. She focused on her sketch, which was unlike anything she had drawn before—the mass was the same in shape and size, but in the centre, she had traced two eyes that blended with the colour of the form they shared, as well as stood out, like they were staring back at her. The opening of the door startled her, and Waverly jumped slightly in her spot. "Sorry to star
