Chapter 11: You're an Alpha?

The following day, I stood in the living room near the couch. We were off from training from the day which made me grateful. I was already healed from my bruises from the day before because of the healing abilities I got as a wolf.I had been debating for the last hour if I wanted to call Ash. He'd been on my mind since last night. This had been the longest we'd gone without talking.I wasn't sure if he had messaged me or not. I'd been too busy with training to even look at my phone. It also didn't help he didn't pick up the other day. What if he was mad at me for going on the trip with Zander? I knew he disliked Zander and had a good reason to be jealous. I mean, Zander was a very good-looking guy. I needed to shove that thought to the back of my mind.I glanced at my engagement ring and missed Ash.I picked up my phone and decided to call him without a doubt. He needed to hear from me. I'm sure he worried about how I was doing with the Full Moon pack. My hurt ached for him. As

Chapter 12: Unexpected Help

Emerald had punched me in the face and dragged me to my feet. She was stronger than her body build would've suggested. I mean, she was shorter than me by a couple inches and on the skinny side. How had she packed such a punch? She knocked me back down and kicked me hard in the ribs and hovered over me. Her face twisted into an ugly scowl. At that point, I was drained of any previous energy.I knew she had won and tried to keep my face empty of any strong emotions. I kept my face empty of any strong emotions. No way would I let her think she'd knocked down my confidence. I'd try to keep as much dignity as possible. She threw a couple more punches at my face and said, "You're a poor excuse for a future Alpha."Emerald took my phone and walked away before I could answer her back. Pain spread through my face, side, and ribs. Blood dripped from my nose and bottom lip. I looked down and my shirt had blood on it. I wasn't sure if it was hers, mine, or a mixture of both. I guessed the latt

Chapter 13: Recon

I pushed thoughts away of what I heard Zander say earlier. Maybe he wasn't serious. I snuck out to the living room to meet him. We had decided to get my phone back at night. No one would get suspicious if they didn't spot us.Everyone should've been asleep by midnight. At least I hoped. Getting caught sneaking around would look bad. I didn't want to lose the Full Moon pack's trust. It was weird how different the headquarters looked at night. There was almost an eerie feel with how quiet it was. The moon shone brightly on the hardwood floor. He sat with a bored expression on the couch and had a faint blue glow to his face. I stood in front of him with my hands on my hips.I whispered in an irritated way, "Are you done yet?"He put his phone away and quietly followed me. I started searching through the living room and looked under the couch and chair cushions.Zander checked in all of the drawers in the room and carefully pulled them out. He must've been trying not to make much n

Chapter 14: Operation: Phone

I tried to push away what sparks I felt from the kiss with Zander. Last night it had been hard to fall asleep without thinking about our lips touching. The kiss was felt through my every being. I even dreamed about Zander and woke up sweating. It was so wrong.Ash would've been so mad at me for doing what I did. I had guilt over what I did but would've done it again if I had to. I had no choice the night before. But I sure wouldn't tell Ash what had happened. We always tried to tell each other the truth and didn't keep secrets. I had to keep that tiny secret from him. It wasn't a serious kiss though.I took a shower after breakfast and tried to push thoughts about Zander away. I had to face him again soon. He probably wouldn't bring it up again. I hoped he wouldn't. Facing these new feelings was a problem. Before lunch, I decided to visit Zander and attempt to get my phone again. I mean, it couldn't go any worse than yesterday. I had a new plan that would be better than the last ti

Chapter 15: Bring It On

Zander barged into my suite. I sat on my bed and stared at my phone while willing a call from Ash to happen. So far, it had not been working. He came up to me and asked, "Did you get any messages from your fiancé?" He said the last word with a hint of spite. Was it that obvious? I hoped I wasn't that easy to figure out."No. I haven't heard from him at all.""What a shame," Zander said in a fake tone of sympathy.I wondered what he wanted. I set my phone down and looked him in the eyes."Is there something you want?""You promised that you'd spar with me, remember?"Oh right. I had said that he could if he helped me. I almost wanted to change my mind because of the close proximity we'd have to be in. I wasn't sure my heart could handle all that closeness with Zander.Just looking at him caused me to feel a warmth spread throughout my body. It got harder just to breathe regularly when we were together. Finally, I said, "Let me get changed first. I'll meet you in the training r

Chapter 16: Worried

I was still in Zander's embrace. He kept his eyes on mine and brushed a hand down my cheek slowly. It sent shivers down my neck. I wanted him to touch me more and maybe kiss me again. What was I saying? Remember your fiancé, I told myself. I couldn't let him make me stray from Ash.Zander moved close to my lips and said, "I think that's enough training. It was fun."I resisted telling him that he couldn't trick me. Part of me really wanted another kiss. I felt disgusted that I wanted someone like I did with Ash. It was so bad. He released me from his hold and got up and walked out of the training room. How could he just leave after putting me in that situation? My heart was still trying to go back to its regular rate. I needed to get a hold of myself and fast. I sat up and ran a hand through my hair. Had he just been messing with me? Half of me wanted to run after him and make him explain what that was about. A guy couldn't just do something so intimate and run off.I decided t

Chapter 17: Sneaking Out

Zander POVAfter I let go of Cleo, she looked at me and started heading back towards her suite. I followed after her and gently grabbed her wrist. "What are you doing?""Isn't it obvious? I'm going back to my suite."I shook my head and gave her a stern look. "You're planning something. I can tell."Cleo gave an ashamed look and said, "Okay. You caught me. I'm leaving the Full Moon pack and going home.""You shouldn't go alone. I'll come with you." I paused and added, "Can you wait a little longer on going home? I could use your help with something else."Cleo gave a thoughtful expression to me and held a finger up. I had patience to wait for her decision. It seemed she was eager to go home. I knew she wanted to see her fiancé again. Part of me wanted Cleo to forget him. She could do better. Finally, she said, "I'll help you. What is it you need help with exactly?""I want to find out who really killed my parents.""I'm in. You deserve to know the truth."She had a brief fa

Chapter 18: Dreams, Hopes, and Secrets

Zander POVCleo took a sip of her soda and looked at me. "What are your biggest hopes and dreams?"Was she really asking me this? I was caught off guard with the weight of her serious question. I took another bite of my burger to stall on my answer. Honestly, I didn't know if I wanted Cleo to know me on that level. Normally, I didn't let many people in.I swallowed and said, "I'd say my biggest hope would be to become someone that others look up to. I want people to say 'Zander is what I aspire to be like'. No one's ever wanted to be like me, and I think that'd be cool." I paused and continued, "My top dream is to become an Alpha of a pack one day. I know I could lead others if I was given a chance."I let her absorb everything I said. Cleo had a look of surprise on her. She took a bite of her fish sandwich and looked at me. She swallowed and said, "Those weren't answers I was expecting from you. I didn't know you had such high hopes and dreams. You wanting to be an Alpha reall

Chapter 19: Your Pack

Things felt different for the rest of the drive after opening up to one another. It was also because he had comforted me when I needed it. I felt closer to him than ever before. Zander had more to him than I had originally thought. He actually was a person that I wanted to learn more about. As we got closer to the pack, Zander seemed on edge. I wanted to make sure Zander wanted to return to his old pack. My heart hurt to see him look so stressed.I spoke up and asked, "Are you sure you want to do this?"He clenched his teeth and said, "Yeah I'm sure. I need to figure out who killed my parents. I can't back out now.""But..." I was cut off by his annoyed tone."Just drop it. You can't change my mind. We're almost there. I can't turn back to the Full Moon pack." He added, "You were the one who wanted to come with me. I never told you that you had to come."It was quiet for the rest of the trip. Zander being tense made me feel crappy too. Our trip had been a really nice one until we

Chapter 20: Rumors

The feast had started and I sat with Zander. This caused other members to get up and leave. These members didn't even excuse themselves. They scoffed and gave disgusted looks at Zander. I shook my head at their cruel treatment. Why couldn't these stubborn people forgive and forget the past? It was years ago. They should just move on.I thought they were just being petty. It wasn't like Zander had killed someone in their pack. I shook my head and stabbed my lamb chop with my steak knife. People like that made me mad. Zander looked over at me knowingly and said, "Cleo, don't worry about them. I don't care that they hate me. Besides I belong to your pack." He added, "They mean nothing to me."How could he just be calm about those jerks? I wanted to tell all of them off for their immaturity."So, it doesn't bother you at all being back?" Zander ran his hand through his hair and sighed, "It does a little. But we won't be here longer than necessary."He pushed his plate of food to t
