Matilda's head was reeling. She wished she could go back to that evening in the bookstore and reverse the order of events. She would not have performed the spell. Alexander slammed the door shut behind him. His thoughts were jumbled together as he headed for his chamber. Beatrice managed to fend Annalise off by replying to her questions with one worded answers.
