Chapter 60 - Defiance

Fire, it burned like white-hot flames spread through her nose, mouth, and down the back of her throat. Each breath taken was done so in pure utter agony as the oxygen in the cool air stoked the flames engulfing her. Oh, how it burned! She could hardly stand it; she needed water, and she needed it now! But her body refused to move. Why wouldn’t her body move? Her arms and legs were so heavy, almost like they were being weighed down by a ten-ton weight. Oh god! The fire was spreading licking at her insides with pure glee as it went, disseminating to her chest and lighting up her lungs. She took in a breath, but it was like adding gasoline to the flames and it made her cough. Her muscles cried out in protest as she hacked away. And then as if that weren’t enough her head began to pound, the blood rushing in her ears like a river, roaring with each painful thump of her heart adding to her misery. It’s like they say, “Misery loves company”, she thought bitterly, when would this end? S

Chapter 61 - Trail

He was ready to pull the hair from his own scalp before his father, and their enforcers arrived. Griffon had to physically hold him down just to keep him from sprinting off on his own. And had he not been surrounded by humans he would have torn the throat out of his best friend. Aiden paced back and forth in the small room at the hospital, the one that used to contain his mate. He could smell her fear, her anger, and two distinct male scents as well. It was driving him up a wall, his wolf was snarling in anger, which translated to his own scowl that had just seeped into the dark emotion. He was going to find these two males that had dared touch his mate and rip them limb from limb until he bathed in their blood. “No, you will not,” “Shut up Griffon, you have no right to tell me what I can and cannot do to these soon-to-be dead men,” “Might I remind you, I am still the Sheriff of this town, and do not condone acts of murder,” Aiden spun his furious gaze on the older man sitting i

Chapter 62 - Torment

Her legs cried out in pain as they were assaulted again and again by the unyielding concrete steps. It was too dark for her to see the darn flight before her, so she fumbled with her footing, desperately trying to avoid any new additions to her bruises. Raymond Stilinski, the brawny brute who had taken it upon himself to stalk her best friend and cousin, had a merciless grip on her upper right arm. “Hey, my arm doesn’t bend that way dimwit!” she insulted him even as she was being half haphazardly dragged toward an unknown location that just so happened to be at the top of a flight of stairs so hard the world could crumble around them, and they would still be standing. Her bare feet scraped against the rough concrete; she was sure she would be missing a few slices of her soles by the time they stopped. The thug before her was twisting her arm into such positions she was sure were humanly impossible, and he just ignored her protests. He came out of the basement before she did, and he

Chapter 63 - Devil's Banquet

Warning violence, swearing, and mentions of sexual assault in this chapter “I simply want what is mine,” Those six little words would normally have held no power over her, but when put together with that possessive gleam in his dark eyes they hung in the air as if they had been laced with a thick poison. Those six words had made the redhead’s stomach churn and when a porcelain plate with what looked to be a steak, roasted potato, and roasted vegetables was brought before her by her tormentor her mouth turned sour. Listening to those words echoing in her mind made very little sense to the captive but then again, they were not supposed to. For whom could truly know the mind of someone as deranged as the man who was eating a meal as if he were out for a fancy dinner before her? The only sound that filled the silence was that of his steak knife scraping against the porcelain dish that held his dinner. Alexa sat frozen, an expression of stupefaction upon her face as she sat across the

Chapter 64 - Discovered

Aiden was blinded by his anger and by the time he and his pack had found his mate’s scent it was already well into the next morning. Soon the sun would be peeking out from beyond the horizon and the Sun God would bring those slumbering back to the waking world. Sometime in the middle of the night, during their search, Aiden had gone ballistic and had to be restrained when his mate’s emotions suddenly dimmed after being hit with a tidal wave of fear, pain, and disgust. It had ripped through him like a jagged-edged knife it was a wonder he was still conscious. The grey wolf had nearly ripped one of his packmates apart, so blinded he was to whom he was attacking. His wolf cried out in anguish again aware of something he himself was not. It had taken the combined effort of Griffon, Aaron, and Jean to pin him down and save his unfortunate victim. The group had only tripled their efforts to find the missing girl after that, and they had been relieved when they caught the scent at the edge

Chapter 65 - Damaged

There was a sudden sharp intake of breath and the world seemed to stop for a split second. No one in the room dared to move, and suddenly the werewolves in the room scented the same thing Aiden had. The heavy scent of fear, blood, and sex. And they knew what their pack mate had said was true. Jean’s world was collapsing in on itself and the room’s lights flickered. The temperature dropped and the windows cracked at the pressure her magic was emitting. She stalked toward the man, whimpering, and bleeding and she felt nothing but deep-seated resentment fill her. She was suddenly awash in regret; she should have let the wolf finish what he had started. “This rodent touched my little girl?” she did not even recognize her own voice. The younger wolves scurried out of the room in fear. Griffon was still holding Aiden in his arms, and Aaron was glaring at the second abductor who had cowered when his son had changed before them. “No,” Isaac gasped out. “That’s not true!” he vehemently den

Chapter 66 - Night Terror

The haunting sound that ripped its way out of her throat seemed to bounce off the walls and back again, echoing into the day. Her howl of absolute terror tore into the hearts of all the werewolves present as if it were knives, shredding at their emotions as they listened to the cries of a tortured soul. Aiden had abandoned his post at the door, allowing it to swing open and exposing the horror on his father’s face. He used his superior speed to rush back to the blackwood canopy bed in an effort to comfort his wailing mate. Instead, he was met with arms full of Griffon’s mate. Jayden had been sitting vigil at her cousin’s side while the hurt girl slumbered peacefully, or what they believed was peaceful, which had been disturbed by her night terror. The redhead began flailing, slapping violently at whatever haunted her dreams, and with strength that had come out of nowhere, the girl had shoved her cousin so hard she flew right off the mattress. Had it not been for Aiden’s presence sh

Chapter 67 - The Pact

Back in that torn-apart building, where the pack had left him to die an agonizing death, Julian lay, waiting for death to claim him. The pain and agony exploded from every part of his broken body. He could hardly breathe without that very action stroking the flames of pain that consumed him like gasoline. Devoured by the screams of his suffering Julian lay bleeding and shattered on the floor of his own home. The torment engulfing his very being was so overwhelming that it left no room for the man to feel anger, rage, or even fear for what he was sure was his own death. Julian could barely feel the trickles of blood pouring from every open crevice in his body like rivers of crimson. His heart stuttered as it struggled to beat against fractured ribs. His intruders who had imposed upon him in his own home had broken him just as they had the front door. Julian was sure they were inhuman and felt that their very existence went against all that he knew to be true. Their unnatural abilit

Chapter 68 - Transformed

He writhed in agony as lava consumed him through his veins, the pain originating from the bite mark on his pale wrist. His gums ached and his throat burned as if scorched by the desert sand. God, he was so thirsty. It was a thirst unlike any other he had ever experienced in his short conniving life, and it tore through his pain. Suddenly overcome with the immediate urge to purge his stomach of its contents, Julian found himself leaning over the bed, knuckles white with the strength he was slowly regaining. Although the impulse was present the man only managed to heave dry air as if his insides had been as completely empty as the desert that raged on in his throat. The pain of each bone snapping back into place was staggering, to say the least, as if there was molten lava in his veins instead of the blood that had once coursed through their confines. He watched in a sick fascination as the broken skin knitted itself back together and its sickly raisin color faded to the deathly whit

Chapter 69 - Tales

After being meticulously cleaned from head to toe Alexa was moved from the shower where her mother dried her with a quick spell, and she was given new clothes. She took the time to stare at her reflection, even though there were no longer any visible blemishes on her ivory skin she could still see the wounds that were no longer there. She moved as if she were a member of the undead, at a slow pace, her sneaker-clad feet shuffled on the wooden floors as if they were made of lead. Although she moved through the hallways her mind was not present with her body and so she remained silent as they made their way through the unknown mansion that she had awoken in. She walked with a stoic expression and a dead, blank look in her once vibrant blue eyes. Her skin was pale, but it was covered by the new clothes she now wore. She was adjourned with a simple dark green, long-sleeved sweater and faded blue jeans, and her hair remained free from binds as it curled in flaming ringlets around her fa
