CH81 - Cedric's POV

I almost don’t believe my own eyes, ears and touch. I finally have my mate back. That is what I thought at first, but within seconds, Vukasin had caught up with us. He always had been swift-footed, even in his human form.As soon as I saw Kyla thrashing out at him, I knew she had regained some will to free herself. I had been fearful at first, thinking Vukasin had broken her spirit. I couldn’t let Vukasin do anything more to my mate, and this time, I was determined to protect her.Eventually, Vukasin took this fight seriously. Tormenting a chained-up prisoner wasn’t exactly challenging, but defending himself from two foes almost as equal in strength as him was a much harder issue to deal with in his human form.As soon as he changed into his wolf form, I knew he wouldn’t bother with Kyla now. He would focus everything on me so that he could win. I wasn’t about to let him. Allowing him to beat me was not an option. He would slaughter

CH82 - Cedric's POV

As we return home, I hold Kyla close to my chest. She must have been through so much and I can’t help but notice how much lighter she has become. Did that bastard starve her on top of everything else? That my poor mate is full of wounds and burns tells me all that I need to know.I can hear her breathing softly. A sign that she is still alive, but exhausted enough to have fallen asleep. I’m just glad we had been victorious in at least this much. Had we not saved her, what would her fate have been? Finally, we make it back to our home and, although the pack is anxious and mournful from the loss of life, they still offer congratulations on the victory. I wish I could tell them the threat from Vukasin was over at last, but the truth of the matter was that as soon as he recovered, he would be even worse than before. As we entered the packhouse, Anita rushed over to us. “She needs medical attention!” She claimed and motioned for me to follow.

CH83 - Kyla's POV

The sound of songbirds fills my ears as my eyes flicker open. That I feel warm and safe is something I thought I would never experience again. Yet here I am, in the place I should have been all this time. I’m not sure how long I was unconscious, but I feel well enough to move around. My body is still sore, but it could have been much worse had Anita not helped look after my wounds. Now that I’m safe, my body now has the time to repair itself.Glancing beside me, I realise I’m alone and have been all night or however long it has been. Part of me is thankful for that, but the other, louder half of me is fearful that this is all just a dream and I’m still locked away.“C-Cedric?” I call out, “D-Dereck?”It doesn’t take long for me to hear the scrambling of two lots of feet rushing down the hall. As soon as they appear in the room with me, I know this isn’t a dream and I really am safe. I can’t

CH84 - Kyla's POV

I still don’t know how I missed so many signs and all of Cedric’s hints about me being his destined mate. Was that why they always said it wouldn’t be known until you were twenty? Because eighteen-year-olds were just too brash? Or was that just a problem I had?Watching Dereck leave, I couldn’t help but feel bad. He loved me so much, but the Moon had not given me to him. I still loved him, but accepting Cedric was important to me. And I was convinced keeping all of this a secret from me must have been troublesome too, and not just because of me. Then again, Dereck scolded both of us, so it’s not like he can’t handle us simultaneously.“He’ll be fine,” Cedric whispers into my ear before leaning down to kiss my neck. I felt a shiver run through my body at the sensation. I wasn’t sure if I could satisfy Cedric in the state I was in, even if I had healed a bit.“I know,” I replied, suddenly real

CH85 - Dereck's POV

Even though I had agreed to leave them alone, I didn’t wander far from the bedroom. I wanted to be there for when they were done, as we had so much to talk about now that they were finally accepting one another’s roles within this pack of ours.I could hear them decently enough from where I stood, and part of me longed to be included. However, this moment was not like the others, and I knew there was no place for me during the mating ritual. Kyla and Dereck might even become territorial against me without meaning to, so it is best I avoid anything that could set off their natural instincts. As soon as the bedroom was quiet again, I listened out for any signs that those two were still awake. I didn’t think either of them would have done anything too taxing because of Kyla’s wounds, but who could say if they had the smarts to take precautions?“You can come in,” Cedric’s voice mumbled from within the room. He must have hea

CH86 - Cedric's POV

I wasn’t sure what gifts I should bring to let this pack know I truly wanted their aid and peace between our packs. However, with Dereck’s suggestions, we have a few things they will have at least some use for.The journey there was slow at first. Kyla’s wounds had healed mostly, but she had become slower and needed to eat more often than usual just to keep up her strength. At least she had made progress since we first rescued her, and Anita had assured us that Kyla would make a full recovery if given enough time.I was still worried about her coming with us. There was no way she could fight against anyone like this, but she refused to stay behind this time. I couldn’t deny her request after promising she could come with us, so we made do with how slowly she needed to go.What should have been a day or two’s journey turned into almost a week of travelling. Finally, Dereck alerted us when we neared the borders of his deceased mate&rs

CH87 - Kyla's POV

When Dereck requested cookies, it surprised me. Never did I take him for a man with a sweet tooth. However, when the cookies had been delivered, I understood why he liked them so much. I took another one and nibbled into it in delicious silence.I was quite happy to let Dereck and Cedric do most of the talking, though now and then, I made my own opinions known. Some topics made me want to throw up - most of those topics were the things that the bastard of an alpha did to me or would do to others if he ever won against the rest of the packs.I had known some of the topics wouldn’t be things I could take part in, but I still wanted to do my duty as a leader. No matter how minor my participation was. I knew with those two beside me, I could start small and work my way up until I regained my confidence.“We do have a question, however,” Rohn said as he watched the three of us curiously. “What do you plan to do with the other packs once you ha

CH88 - Dereck's POV

Although I kept my composure, Cedric’s question left me a little dumbfounded. Was he serious? Three leaders had ever ruled in the history of our packs, or any pack before us. Not even mentioning the fact that we would all share the mark of bonding between us.I wouldn’t just be a lover, limited in my affections. I could love Kyla just as equally as Cedric could. The downside, if one could call it that; was that I had to take Cedric as my mate, too. Was I ready for that? Could I love him as I loved Kyla?“I accept.” The words left my mouth before I had even finished contemplating those thoughts.Even though it was going to be strange, I didn’t see any reason to reject Cedric. We had already shared a night with Kyla, and he wasn’t asking me to submit to his will. Instead, he was asking for our relationship to be mostly unchanged. It would promote me to the third leader in our pack. With how big Cedric’s pack was abo

CH89 - Cedric's POV

The journey back to our pack wasn’t as slow as our arrival. Kyla seemed to be in such a good mood, she had a pep in her steps. It made the rest of our group feel a little more enthusiastic as a result.Kyla might not be a powerful warrior, compared to any within my pack, but her cheerful, amazing personality, beyond her stubbornness, can be quite contagious.Once we got home, I made sure we had enough room to host the new members. I had a feeling we would need to expand my land beyond what it is now, just to keep everyone safe. However, until we defeat the enemy, there are too many risks to take the time to do that. Perhaps I might just keep the packs in their original lands and just put betas within each area. With enough scouts to monitor the enemy, I set into motion the extra training everyone needed to ensure we had the best chance to win.Joey had proven himself worthy enough to advance himself, so I made him my new beta now that Dereck had als

CH90 - Kyla's POV

Today’s training has been so exhausting, but I can already tell that I’ve improved and grown as a luna. It feels good to be called that again and for others to show me some respect. I guess it helps that I’ve stopped acting out and being so bratty.I run a nice warm bath and dip down into the water, allowing the heat to soothe my muscles. I don’t know how much time we have left, but I think Cedric wants to take the fight to Vukasin. Why he would do so is understandable. We have many here who are too young or too old to fight off an invading group, but if Cedric takes too long to take action, we won’t get a choice. As I relax in the bathtub, I hear someone entering the bedroom. I glance towards the open bathroom door and spot Dereck. He seems to be searching for something, or probably someone, and I can easily guess who that might be.“I’m in here,” I call out, not wanting to move from the bath at all.The mo
