Peter took few steps back from Lancelot. It felt as though he could melt under his glare. "We had to do it. If she woke up, it would not have been good. I had to do it for her own good...as well as yours." While Lancelot wanted to pounce on Peter, he knew that the man was right. It was better Roxanne had no memory of the hunt. He would not know the explanation to give her. His eyes softened and he turned away from Peter. "Just make sure that she is prepared for the dinner, equip her with all she needs to know. I have spoken to my father to make sure that there is no mention of the hunt at dinner. She must understand that she cannot show any emotional weakness to my family, we are wolves for a reason." While his eyes had softened, there was still a hardness to his expression. Peter nodded in understanding. "Yes sir." Lancelot looked over him one last time before dismissing him. When Peter left the room, Lancelot sighed. He thought of Roxanne again. Now that she had been put to

The large family tree

She felt a faint sense of relief when her eyelids finally parted. For one, she had gotten rid of the awful dream she had just had. Roxanne saw herself standing in front of a huge black werewolf, and it appeared to be hell bent on eating her up! Luckily, she woke up right before then. Who knows? Maybe she wouldn't have woken up at all. Roxanne recalled the rather famous myth that said if a person died in their dream, they also died in real life. The thought frightened her terribly. When she struggled to sit up, she felt very hot, despite the air conditioner in the room. Beads of sweat trickled down her forehead and she wiped it with the back of her palm. When she did so, she looked around the room. Two things came to her notice. Firstly, the splitting headache that had caused her to go back to bed was gone. Now, she felt well rested and stronger than she did before. The tea the maids served her must have worked their magic, and she was grateful for it. Secondly, there was a stran

And it hurt

It was then she noticed the brown file in Peter's hands. He walked to her and dropped it by her bedside drawer. Roxanne's eyes followed him with every step he took, she had not found the words to speak yet. "Do make sure to dress very corporately. The entire royal family would be there. There would be maids to attend to your hair and whatever thing it is you might need to present yourself. The queen and the dowager are very particular about physical appearance." He spoke. She had to be dressed like the employee she was, they did not need anybody thinking otherwise. When he looked at her, Peter could see the numerous questions in her eyes. He watched as her mouth moved, she was struggling to say something, but couldn't find the words to put it. He chuckled. "His grace just wants to introduce you to the family as my assistant. You have nothing to fear." "Oh." Roxanne finally managed to mutter. She did not know what she had been expecting, but Peter's revalation seemed to disappoint

He doesn't have a choice

Madeline Dankworth was still finding it very hard to be at peace with her thoughts. It was a miracle how well he had been able to handle himself in the presence of the elders today. She had never doubted Lancelot's leadership qualities or his intelligence, but the gravity of the situation earlier today made her feel that if she didn't speak, Lancelot would be ruined. Before then, Madeline had to make sure that it was done, and dusted. She continued to walk from one end of her room to the other. And her husband, who had come to make sure she was not killing herself with worry, sat on her bed and looked at her worry. Defeated, a heaved a sigh and started to speak. "Madeline dear..." "Please Edward, do not tell me not to worry because that would only make me worry all the more." On hearing her, Edward stood up and walked to her. He understood Madeline and knew how important Lancelot was to his wife, even though she had a very weird way of showing it. Madeline had always expected th

Reuben Morrison is here

On her way to the dining room, while walking beside Peter, Roxanne did not know what she was to expect. She had been told how to address each and every member of the royal house, and to be on her best behavior. Yet, she found it hard to shake off the nerve wracking feeling in her stomach. No matter how confident she tried to appear, she couldn't deny the fact that she was nervous. As they approached the door of the dinning room, Peter walked ahead of her. The large mahogany doors were spread apart from each other, ushering them into the exquisite and luxurious room with a long rectangular table standing still in the middle. Roxanne's eyes drank in the sight of the place. From the antique chandeliers on the roof, to the brown silk draperies, portraits and iron sculptures, everything about the room screamed English aristocracy. Peter turned to her, and took one step forward into the room. Roxanne felt her heart pound against her chest, threatening to burst out. The room was filled w

What had she gotten herself into?

Seeing her nephew was a huge relief and source of joy for Madeline. For two minutes, she was able to take her mind off the abomination sitting across her, and focus her eyes and her mind on her late elder sister's son; Reuben. Roxanne was one of the people to look up at the man. He stood tall, nothing less than six feet and six inches of height. His hair was crimson red, just like Arthur's and Madeline's and there was a calmness in the green color of his eyes. Even when he smiled, his smile seemed to cause everyone else to smile; including her. Lancelot's eyes rose up to look over his cousin. It had been almost three years since he last saw Reuben, he could only wonder what the man was here for. Not that Lancelot disliked him, but Reuben reminded him of someone he desperately needed to forget; Bran. And he did not need a constant reminder of his brother around him everyday. Especially not in this period. "I take offense to that statement." Bailey called out loud, referring to the y

The magic flute

The rest of dinner went by in a blur. With Roxanne's mind racing, she was barely able to force any meal into her stomach, or get herself to listen to any other word that was spoken at the table. She could think of one thing and one thing only: how to not disgrace herself in front of the entire Dankworth family tonight. It was not that she was scared or that she doubted her capabilities. What bothered Roxanne was what they would have to say about her style of playing. She had always gotten critisms about it before, most of them bad. But she had never really cared. But right now, it was the only thing she could bring herself to think about. Her eyes continued to glance over Lancelot once in a while, but their eyes never met. Roxanne found it strange. Whenever she looked away from him, she could feel his eyes on her. But when she looked at him, it felt as though she was a glass frame he could see right through. Did her presence really not have the same effect on him that his had on h

Just let me be

As Peter led Roxanne into her room, she turned to him and smiled weakly. "Honestly, Peter. I cannot thank you enough for everything." It was visible from the look on her face that she was tired, and he understood why. A genuine smile crept up to his face as she bowed in courtesy. "The pleasure was all mine Miss Harvey. Do make sure you get some rest." "Hmmm." She nodded. With that, Roxanne walked further into her room and Peter closed the door behind her. He turned his back towards her door and pulled his phone from his pocket. He clicked the home button to check the time. It was already 9:00pm. He made a mental note to check up on Lancelot before retiring for the night. Lancelot was clearly not in his Chambers, so there were only two places he could be in at this time; the king's study, or the salon. And with Reuben's presence, Peter was very sure it was the latter. So, he tucked his phone safely into his pocket again as he began his walk to the salon. The smell of booze and

Exactly who he needed

Lancelot's reply darkened the mood. Madeline was not pleased to see him brush of Reuben in such a way, and Edward was worried about him. Richard and Bailey stared at him with pitiful eyes. Only Lady Marion and Eloise, who were sitted close to the window, admiring the night sky, did not partake of the sudden glumness. Reuben sensed the change of mood and chuckled lightly. "Would you look at that? Still the grumpy baby boy we all know." As he laughed, Madeline smiled as well. The effect of his contagious laugh spread across the room in less than thirty seconds. Everyone had their eyes glistering with happiness once again. "Aunty, please do remind me to give you what I got for Bran's grave." Reuben spoke, turning to the dart board and throwing the pin forward. When the pin touched the bulls eye, Richard cheered with excitement. "You've gotten better at this game boy" Bailey spoke up, seemingly impressed by his nephew's dart skills. Reuben turned to him and bowed. "Why, thank you

Please stay a little longer

Roxanne flung herself into her bed after a very warm shower. Her bones were aching and she was trying to reduce her tension from the dinner. While it had ended on a fine note, with her piano performance, she still couldn't shake up the feeling that a major part of the royal family did not want her here. The side remarks, the glares, everything was glaring and confusing to Roxanne. However, her warm shower and a glass of milkshake was more than enough to calm her nerves. Her head rested on her pillow, she closed her eyes to sleep after letting out deep breaths. Just when she thought she had finally found her peace, her phone rang. Her pillow continued to vibrate. She groaned in frustration and raised the pillow up, revealing her phone and Peter's name on her screen as the Caller ID. Roxanne looked around, wondering why Peter was calling her at such hour of the night? Curious, she answered the call and pressed the speaker to her left ear. "Peter?" The tone of her voice must have ma
