It was dark. They had taken the courtesy of turning the lights off, making sure it was pitch black, nothing was visible. She gave her eyes some time to adjust to the darkness and even still, she couldn’t make out anything. She tried to bring up her picture memory from when she was a child: she had spent a lot of time in this basement as a kid and it was not for the right reasons. As usual, it was their way of getting rid of her when they were annoyed. If she ever did anything remotely wrong or something they disapproved of, she would go straight to the basement.After a while, she had learned how to survive. The best way not to annoy them was to completely avoid them. If she entered home late, she would come through the back door and same with going out when they were awake. It worked fine for her for a really long time, since they couldn’t see her it was almost as if they had forgotten about her and were busy with their own shenanigans which included god knows what.
