IAN POV"Why am I picking you up early??? And why do you look pissed," Colt finally grumbles after picking me up from the appointment I ran from.   Well wheeled away from."My therapist had the brilliant idea that I should be placed on medication," I snap, and he gives me a stern look.   "And you feel like you don't need medication," Colt asks, and my rage explodes.   I yell out and punch my immobile leg with as much strength as I can. Colt's face becomes a mask of shock before he pulls over his new dad-mobile.   "WHAT THE HELL IAN? YOU JUST HIT YOURSELF," Colt shouts, and I almost smile but my anger won't let me.   Finally, someone isn't babying me. Finally, someone is yelling back and treating me like I'm not made of glass.    "YOU AGREE WITH HER; YOU THINK I NEED MEDICATION? YOU THINK I CAN'T MAN UP AND OWN MY MISTAKES? I'M NOT JUST YOUR BABY BROTHER ANYM

CHLOE POV    I place the six on the seven in my solitary game before sighing. I have zero hope that Ian will show up today for his appointment. He was a no-show yesterday, but he did call. The receptionist didn't take down his reason, so I'm not sure, but my money is on he didn't want to come.   For the past three days, I've done nothing but obsess over what I'm going to say to him if I ever see him again. But even after three days, I've got nothing. Nothing new anyway...  "Chloe," my intercom sounds, and I press talk to answer.   "Yes,""Your 11:30 appointment is here.""Umm. Okay, thank you," I fumble out as my nerves skyrocket.   Ian is here, and I feel like I showed up to school naked. My palms are sweating, and my stomach is in knots as I leave my office to head to the front. I've never been good with confrontation, and since he left so angry last time.....  "Good mor

IAN POV   "That's great Ian," Trinity praises me as I flex and point my feet.    I try to keep the annoyance off of my face, but it's difficult. She sounds as if she is praising her new puppy, who just learned to sit...and her voice is like nails on a chalkboard.   My eyes dart across the room, and a grin tugs at my lips as I watch Chloe assist an older man who just had his knee replaced. She is so patient and tender, but her voice doesn't sound like the others. She isn't speaking in a higher tone or acting as if every small movement is a huge accomplishment. She is treating him like a man.   "Hey, big guy, focus," Trinity says from right beside me before squeezing my bicep.   I slightly jerk but she just grins.   "Wow, you are toned," she practically purrs, and the hairs on my neck stand up.   For some reason, this girl reminds me of every single footba

CHLOE POV  "Hey Chloe, can I speak with you," Ian's voice calls from behind me before I can escape into my office.   I really haven't had a chance to calm down from what transpired earlier, and I am still embarrassed over how jealous I got when Ian's body reacted to Trinity. So I really don't want to talk to anyone... Especially him.   "Ian, I would really like some alone time," I respond over my shoulder, not realizing how close he had gotten to me.   Ian grabs my hand, and I freeze. His eyes look almost panicked as they stare at me. Need and fear glow within their depths.   "Chloe, everything that chick said was a lie. She was bitter. Rejected people say hurtful things....please...just can we forget about today. I..really....you know I didn't......I don't like her. My body...Chloe," Ian stumbles out, and his neck turns scarlet.    I let my gaze fall to our hands, and I squee

IAN POV  I've never felt so vulnerable before, and that is coming from a man who has been pulled from a burning vehicle before.   "Mom, I need to ask you a favor," I say while leaning back and staring at my poor mom.   She has dealt with every mood swing and every accident. She is one amazing woman, and I owe her so much. I even considering bashing Dylan's head in once for my mother. I was an angry young kid at the time, so the thought quickly left my head, but the fact that he hurt her had me wanting to be violent.   "Sure, Honey," Mom replies before putting her fork down and giving me her attention.   Dad looks at me quizzically, but I ignore him. I already feel as if I am half a man. I don't need Mr. Perfect husband stepping in...  "I need you to drive me to pick up a date tomorrow. I am a little self-conscious about eating out, so I suggested our date being here......I....you know I

CHLOE POV  "Chloe Elizabeth Shaw, I forbid you from seeing that boy," my mother orders through the phone in a nasty voice I have heard many times before.    "Excuse me," I ask as my smug smile falls from my face.   "I forbid you from tainting our name even further by dating that boy. He is just like his bed-jumping brother, and I will not have it. I am sick of biting my tongue. I had to listen to you defend him at lunch when you were speaking to your father, and I am done. He is a murderer. He crashed that car and killed those innocent boys just like you did," my mother barks out, and a piece of my heart snaps off.    My ears start ringing, and my heart sinks as the realization that "BOTH" my parents blame me for something beyond my control. Bile rises in my throat as I fight back the need to vomit. Pain and anger punch through me as my mother continues to ramble on about my failures as a Shaw. As the ringi

ALASTAIR POV ( CHLOE'S DAD)  "ALASTAIR, GET DOWN HERE,"  Gayle screeches, and I groan externally.    I throw down my golfing magazine and push my burly frame from my chair. Every year it seems as if this colossal house shrinks. The halls used to be filled with my children's laughs, but now all that echoes through the empty halls is her screams.    I miss my children so much. I've never been the most emotional guy. I've never really learned how to hug and express my love, but I came from a home filled with nannies. Love and sharing love is as foreign to me as being broke. At least I won that battle with my demon-incarnated wife when she suggested it. No Nannies. "What is the matter now," I mumble as I make my way into the kitchen.    The one room in the entire house that we speak to each other in. I've had a separate room for years. Because while my upbringing frowns upon divorce, I st

IAN POVI watch Chloe's eyes widen as we listen to her father announce himself at my parent's front door. "What does he want," I whisper, and Chloe shrugs as she stands to her feet. I unlock the brakes on my chair and follow her into the living room. I try to hide my surprise when I glance at Chloe's father, but I am positive he saw the slight shock on my face. The man is a massive version of his daughter. Alastair Shaw is Chloe on steroids. "Dad, how did you find me here," Chloe asks as she folds her arms and tries to hide her discomfort. "The Wilsons aren't that hard to find, sweetie...We need to talk, and giving the last conversation, you had with your mother it couldn't wait.........I want you to know that when you spoke to your mom, she wasn't speaking for me. She was only speaking for herself. I don't blame you for that punk kid's mistakes. There wasn't anything you could do," Chloe's dad says, and Chloe's

CHLOE POV (two months later)"Come on, Ian. You got this," Susan says from across the workout room. I look over my knee replacement patient to see what my boyfriend is having issues with, and the frustration on his face makes me want to cry. The last few weeks have been hard on him. He has made progress, but he feels as if he hasn't made enough. "This is stupid! I'm never getting out of this chair," Ian yells, and even my patient looks over at him. "Mr. Hughes, excuse me for a moment," I whisper, and my patient nods. Susan is rubbing her forehead as I approach, and I know the feeling she is experiencing all too well. Ian isn't an easy patient. He isn't one of our older patients who is here to help adjust after surgery. He is young and hot-headed. Sometimes he acts like a completely different person when he gets down. He is never violent towards anyone but himself, but it is still terrifying. His depression medic

CHLOE POV     "Hello."  "Hello, my name is Chloe Shaw. I am trying to reach the parents of Raymond Rivas," I reply nervously while twirling a pen at my desk.   "This is his mother...What's this about," Mrs. Rivas replies.   "Oh umm..hi. I was calling to speak to you about Ian Wilson. I understand if you don't want to, I just had a few questions," I quickly blurt and wait.    She only takes a moment before responding.    "Umm. Sure, I don't know much about him. He was on my son's football team and was the driver of the vehicle the night my son died.....I, well, he wrote me a letter after the accident," Mrs. Rivas answers hesitantly, and I smile.   "I was wondering how you feel about him.....like if you are still angry or upset with him over what happened," I ask timidly."No, I wish it didn't happen. I miss my son. But I'm not upset. His lette
