It seemed peaceful. Isabelle's head was on Adrian's shoulder as he locked their hands together. A shy smile played on both their lips. "So...," Adrian whispered. "What do you want to know?""Everything," she smiled. "It would be shameful that I know nothing about my husband." He was still. History must be a sensitive topic for him. She was about to talk but her shushed her. "I was birthed to King Augustus by a court lady. Lady Judith," he smiled. "My mother was what anyone could wish for. She was beautiful, humble and innocent. She died when I was just eight." "Spencer told me she was murdered," Isabelle interrupted. "Is that true?" He sighed. "Yes, she was murdered. I was enrolled in royalty training but I did not get along with the other scholars. They claimed I was cursed. That went on for eight years until the General brought his son, Spencer to Deira. He was the only one I opened up to. I started going to war at a tender age and surprisingly, I came back victorious. I

"I get scared at the slightest sight of blood, how do you manage?" She asked curiously. He looked around awkwardly and answered, "I just manage. I am the General after all." "So, Generals don't get scared?" She teased."Of course not." He was now fully dressed in his armour. He placed his sword back in its sheath and showed that he was ready to leave. She stood up and held his hands tightly. "Please come back," she pleaded. He chuckled slightly."We're just going to support them. I will be back soon," he assured her."Overconfidence is not good. Anything could happen and I don't want to start thinking about bad scenarios." "You're worried? In this marriage of respect?" He teased."Say that again and and I'll make sure you get a consort." "Do I have to explain whose loss that is?" He smiled. They hugged each other tightly and refused to let go. Spencer knocked on the door gently."We're ready General!" They disengaged with tears in her eyes and a smile on his fa

"The war shall be over soon, I can assure you. Stay healthy," she read the last part of the letter Adrian had sent to her. She was busy eating lunch and stood up when she was done. She folded the letter neatly and tucked it in her blue gown.A guard came running in. "Your Highness!" He bowed. "Prince Malcolm is here." "Prince Malcolm?" She asked in confusion. What was he doing here? It looked like Adrian didn't like him so she wanted to keep her distance. "You may leave," she dismissed him. She walked to her room swiftly and kept Adrian's letter by the table. She placed her coronet on her head and walked out elegantly.Malcolm was just alighting from his horse and two guards from the main palace were behind him. He was looking haughty as ever with his disgusting smile. "Prince Malcolm," she bowed in respect to him. He was still in mourning as he was dressed in white."Princess Isabelle," he returned the greeting. "How have you been?""I have been well your Majesty.

His heart skipped a beat. Did those words really come out of her mouth? He turned slowly and faced her."Really?""It is your stable, I have no right to make you leave.""Come with me!" He pulled her hurriedly and didn't stop until they reached their room. She didn't bother to ask what was going on either and just obeyed him."Undress," he ordered."Hmm?" She squeezed her face together. "Did I hear you right?"He stared right at her."Undress and wear a more comfortable and less formal dress."He walked out after that little sentence. She looked at where he stood for a while before running in quickly. She looked through her box and found one of the dresses she often wore as Belle. She changed into the sky blue gown with a white inner shirt. She fastened her boots and Lydia helped her with a fishtail braid."Did he tell you where you were going?" Lydia questioned."No," Isabelle turned around in her dress like a fairy."Are you that happy?" Adrian walked in with a smile.Lydia bowed im

Malcolm walked leisurely to his mother's chambers. His guard was closely behind him and they moved in silence. Why would his mother call for him at that time? When he reaches the door, the court lady announced, "Prince Malcolm is here!" and she bowed. "Let him in," Indira's voice came from inside. The doors were opened and Malcolm entered. Indira was seated at a table with a cup of tea in front of her. There was another one where Malcolm was supposed to seat and some sugar. She looked serious. Malcolm knew his mother always had a serious face on but this was different. "Mother," he called softly so as not to press the wrong button."Sit, Malcolm," she replied after taking a sip of her tea. He lifted the cup to his nose and sniffed it."Black tea," his lips curved up in a smile. The black tea was extremely bitter but his mother enjoyed it. No amount of sugar could make it sweet but it would reduce the bitterness. He added two spoons of sugar quickly and took a sip.

Adrian was looking at his reflection in the mirror as Isabelle rubbed olive oil on his scars. He sighed, "I used to be handsome." She looked at him in the mirror and he raised an eyebrow. "What?" "Nothing," she shook her head. She placed the lid on and set the oil aside. "You're going to the main palace, are you aware?" "No," she said. "Why?""I told you Nefertiti was getting married, didn't I? What would you be doing here when you're supposed to be helping her out until then?" He shook his head at her and walked to the bed. "All you do is sneak out," he muttered."When is the wedding?" She asked meekly. "In a week," he groaned. "You can take Lydia with you. The royal carriage will arrive soon." "Will you be okay alone?" He sat up and looked at her with a weird face. After pulling his lips in for a while, he let out an hysterical laughter. Her jaw dropped open. She had never seen him like that. Suppressing his laughter for a while, he snapped his fingers

Adrian and Spencer sat quietly under the tree by the maidens residence in the late evening. He laid down, staring at the sky when Frederick walked in. "Adrian," he called gently. Adrian stood up while Spencer bowed."Are you okay?" "Would you be if you were in my position?" Adrian hissed and made to leave."You should have expected this. He did the same to Victoria. Princess Isabelle's parents probably knew this before they agreed to marry their daughter to you." "What has she done wrong‽" Adrian shouted and Spencer excused them. "I've never done anything for her and now you're asking me to take away her joy? I'm not a beast!" "Tell her before you go, that is the best."Frederick sighed and left. Spencer was about to leave when Juno walked in."Prince Adrian," she bowed. "Get away from me!" He yelled in frustration and walked away from her. Juno bit her fingernails furiously. Why wouldn't Adrian give her attention? Was he going to sleep with Isabelle?"Princ

"Keep an eye on her," the Royal Physician told Lydia. "I shall come back tomorrow.""Alright," she bowed. "Thank you." "Rest well, your Highness," the Physician bowed to Isabelle and left. Isabelle was not asleep but she kept her eyes closed. She held the letter that was sent to her in her palms and squeezed it to the extent that the brown paper was tearing apart. Angbotain is in ruins. Angbotain is dead. Her kingdom was burnt to ashes. Adrian ruined them. He killed her. "Help me up," she said to Lydia. Lydia slipped her arms under Isabelle's shoulders and helped her up. "Where to?" She asked."The bathhouse," she replied. She helped her walk to the bathhouse. Isabelle looked like a living corpse as Lydia barely supported her weight. She asked all the court maids to leave, even Lydia. She stripped naked and stepped into the tub. It was warm. She sat down and closed her eyes because it felt like the water was aligning her bones. She was dead. Her enti
