Chapter 41

My face went white. I abandoned my pride because this was now a conflict so bitter for it to be of any use to me. “If you touch me, I will hate it,” I whispered in a scared voice. He laughed and there was a naked desire in his eyes, a feeling so powerful that I went rigid with terror in front of it. He had never before looked at me like that. No man had. Marc had often looked at me with passion in the past but always with love, now there's nothing warm or soft about the expression in those beautiful dark eyes.I have never seen that expression in a man's face before but I knew it now, I had no hesitation in recognizing it.Lust, I thought sickeningly. It was an ugly word for an uglier feeling, but it was what I saw in his face as I stared at him. His eyes were as hard and as inhuman glittering and his nostrils flared above his mouth.“Don't..." I whispered. " Please! “His hands moved slowly and I watched them with fear,

I had woken up in the middle of the night and for a few minutes after our fierce lovemaking, I had leaned against Marc, eyes closed, breathing heavily, then repulsion and self-disgust has swept over me and I had to run from him as though from the devil himself. For hours I had paced around my room and I got inside my quit and had recalled how we had met. Six years ago It was my birthday and I had gone out with my two friends and Englishman and Harriet my roommate. We had gone to a nightclub and the music was blaring deafening our ears but we were still enjoying it. “Ah…the party song.” Henry my friend wiggled his eyebrows. “ Come both you girl must dance with me.” He took both our hands and was leading us to the dance floor but I denied saying I was too tipsy and will not be able to gel in the crowd so they left me seated there went on dancing. I was looking at them and enjoying my drink.“You know, I can teach you if you want to dance.” A seductively sexy voice whispered from just

“You can’t even lie Carmen, your eyes say it all. So where are you planning to move?” He asked suddenly. My eyes went wide and I asked. “How did you know?” “Don’t you hate me because as far as I know I am the reason you are facing these problems?” He said gently. I moved away from him nervously. “Why should I blame you. I am happy that Harriet showed her true colors and please don’t feel bad about it as I don’t blame you. But how did you find out?” I asked him curiously. “Well, I heard her boasting about it to her friend when I had gone out for lunch at a near by café and I couldn’t help but hear it and that’s how I came to know that my attention towards you had caused her to get jealous of you and so she moved out with her other friend just to teach you a lesson.” He paused and then continued, “ I am sorry Carmen my one-sided attraction has caused you this ordeal but I can’t help it I like you and I want to be with you. I know it’s too early but will you be my girlfriend.” My mou

Glancing at the clock beside the bed, I saw that it was 9:00. Reluctantly I got up and showered, dressed in cream color linen dress with a covered Collar brushing my sleek long hair into a knot which I pinned with trembling fingers.Ada looked at me expressionlessly, when I descended. “ Tea and lasagne? She asked in a deep voice. “Thank you”. I stood by the window staring out at the grey sky. When Ada brought me my breakfast I sat down and poured myself some tea and drank it slowly, needing the heat that it gave me. I could not touch the food, after one look at it, I pushed it away. Ada’s mouth tightened.“Marc did not eat anything as well,” she said and my face turned red and my lips trembled as I looked away.“He is staying in bed today, Ada said. “He overdid it yesterday.” I laughed hysterically and couldn't stop. I knew Ada was staring at me with curiosity. Gathering up my courage from somewhere I forced myself to regain my self-control and bent my head and concentrated on drinki

Angrily I pushed the unwelcome thoughts aside taking a deep breath before pushing open the double doors to the drawing-room. The Italian woman looked just as beautiful and elegant in the bright lights of the morning as she had in the evening before. Formally dressed in a pink-colored dress and with a perfectly beautiful matching pearl around her slender throat.“Forgive me for coming late,” I said more politely than I felt, knowing instinctively that this visit will be an unpleasant one for me. I didn't want to entertain her but I was just a guest here and since Marc was not around I had to tolerate her.“It doesn’t matter, Ada told me that you had just had your breakfast and went into the room,” Bella said haughtily. Her cold eyes flickered over me like a snake preparing to strike. I suppressed an inward shudder certain now what Bella intended to make my mood into.” I don't wish to be rude Bella but shall we get to the point of your visit? I can't honestly believe that you have come

Later in my room I stretched my length on my luxurious mattress unable to sleep, going over once again in my mind the content of my call to Don. I hated having to deceive him, knowing that when I finally return home, I would have to hurt him further. Whatever were Marc’s reasons for deceiving me to stay at the Villa, there had been a falling as far as the relationship between Don and me was concerned. I knew I could never marry him knowing that I was still in love with Marc. I wished desperately that I had never come to Milan. I was in no doubt that I could have made Don happy but as things stood now, all our lives had been thrown off course. I rolled angrily on my back and stared unseeingly at the white-painted ceiling. Not only were my own plans ruined, but I had a dreadful suspicion that Marc was making a disaster mistake choosing Bella for his next wife but it was always expected, I was just a passing relationship for him.I was forced to admit that my opinion was heavily biased

Chapter 48

The lunch would have been really awkward if it hadn't been for Ria who was talking non-stop so I enjoyed my lunch and ate heartily and thankfully after his lunch, Marc left abruptly towards his study without looking at me. Ria suggested we spend some time together so I agreed or I would have ended up having only my company. I enjoyed their compay very much and wanted to make the most of it as I was the only child of my parents and had never enjoyed the company of siblings and interacting with Mathias and Ria was a new experince for me ad for the first time I felt jealous of Marc as he had such loving siblings who dote on him, no matter how arrogant he is. We were just relaxing over coffee in the lounge when the outer door creaked loudly and we could hear the sounds of steps footsteps walking across the Hall. I felt my pulse was racing alarmingly, as I knew that hot color had flooded my cheeks only to fade again leaving me paler than before. I trembled to know that if I were to have

With unsteady feet, I began to descend the stairs but when I reached down, I saw with dismay that the corridor leading to the lounge and Marc's study was in deep shadow and I had a distinct feeling that someone or something was watching me.“Argh………!” I give a barely suppressed scream as a hand gripped my shoulder and Marc's voice demanded.” Why are you here at this time of the night ?”“Don't ever do that again to me!” I said in a trembling voice, leaning my head weakly against the heavy panels of the door. “I am sorry if I startled you,” Marc said in a cold voice. “But as I said before why are you downstairs now, when everyone else is sleeping in their bedroom?” “I am not about to steal anything from your locker if that's what you're thinking!” I said bitterly my temper rising, as I faced Marc's arrogant figure, my e

I showered and dried myself slowly savoring the luxury of my surroundings, knowing that I could have been happy here if things would have worked out differently seven years ago. I shifted , my focus from my dampened mood a little to where the direction of my thoughts was flowing and flicked quickly through my small wardrobe through the few dresses that I had brought with me. I had actually wanted to accompany Marc in the morning but going to his room was a total waste of time and my peace of mind was gone. I looked at myself in the mirror thrusting away the destructive thoughts and forcing myself to concentrate on the task at hand. Finally, I selected a simple sleeveless dress which was blue in color. Then I slipped it over my slim figure. With the addition of a light coating of mascara and lipstick and my hair in a quickly assembled knot. I felt ready to face the world. It was after all much more sensible to be going to Naviglio with Mathias and Ria. I reassured myself that it would

After I finished my shopping I placed it carefully on my spacious handbag, as I walked quickly back towards the café enjoying Marc’s surprised expression at my unexpectedly early return.“All my life I have been searching for a woman, who could accomplish a shopping trip so speedily. Perhaps when you have divorced Marc, you would consider a proposal for me?”Marc grinned wickedly at me but raised his arms in alarm as I picked up his half-finished drink and threatened him with it.“Carmen I apologize,” he said laughing away, blissfully unconscious of the interested glances from the nearby table.” Do you want to drink or shall we get on?“Let's go Mathias please,” I said to ask my cheeks becoming red, aware that we were the focus of attention in the café.“We will go for the Gondola ride, if you agree.”“That sounds fine.” I said following him qui
