Chapter 10

***Olivia’s POV***   I adjusted my backpack as I looked at the sign. 'Welcome to Lakeshore.' I grimaced. It had taken me longer to get here because of the weather. My feet hurt and I needed a shower six days ago. Why the hell the shaman would send me here, I didn’t know. I knew there were a lot of fey, witches, and even vampires living on this pack’s territory. While I applauded the Alpha for his forward movement, he also seemed a little too bold. At some point, he was just putting his pack at risk for nothing by petty squabbles with the new Alpha King. Walking past the sign, it was another hour before I made it into the town’s center. I walked up to the edge of it and stopped. “Fucking christ.” Every building had flower boxes with blooming flowers, white picket fences, the buildings were red brick and white columned colonial style buildings. There was even a grassy area that split the road in two with a gazebo and

Chapter 11

I arrived to what I thought was the entrance to the property I now owned. It was a good way away from the main town and I was glad. It was overgrown and mystical. It made me feel right at home. I told the realtor that I would wait for him at the entrance of the property before going in. He said he wanted to make sure I didn’t get lost because it was actually a pretty big plot of land. At first, I planned to just stay for a couple months and try to rent out a house near the lake. However, I was told from the shaman that I should not limit my time that way and I could save money by trying to buy property and that way I wouldn’t have to worry about it. Those assholes. They knew exactly where they were throwing me. If they had even said the word mate, I would have disappeared so quickly. Next time I talked to them, they were going to regret it. I kicked a rock on the ground, seething. Bunch of nosey old men with nothing but time. Looking down the road, there was a Jeep d

Chapter 12

Stretching, I uncurled from the corner of the house I had slept in. I had hung a tarp over the biggest of the holes in the living room, in case it started to rain. Taking out a blanket, I just curled up under it. Luckily it hadn’t been too cold. I had taken the rest of the day yesterday clearing out the leaves and debris that were in the house. There had also been a group of mice and a couple bunnies that had holed up under the cupboards I had to evict. I didn’t feel like having roommates. Grabbing my bottle of 2 in 1 shampoo and a bar of soap, I went outside the house. Sunlight was starting to just peek through the trees and bounce off the forest floor. I turned on the water outside and let it run to see if it got any warmer than the freezing cold ice water that came out yesterday. Luckily, it did but it would be generous to even call it warm. Peeling off my shirt and pants, I started to rinse them off first. The water coming off them was dirtier than the water that was ins

Chapter 13

Really, I had gotten more done yesterday than I thought. All of the old wood had been removed and plywood had been laid down. The next part was the underlayment which kept the water off the plywood and then the shingles went on top of that. I was ready to put the underlayment on but I had run out of the larger nails I needed. My arms needed a break from using the hammer anyways. I woke up this morning feeling like I had noodle arms. With my backpack and a couple of thermoses of tea, I walked into town. It was pretty early, about eight in the morning when I finally made it to the main street. As I was walking five men walked past me. They bumped into me, not even moving out of the way. “Hey fucktards, watch where you are going.” They stopped and turned to me. I knew they were werewolves. The middle one was an Alpha, the one who had bumped into me. “Why don’t you watch where you’re going woman? You’re supposed to be seen not heard.” I snorted. “

Chapter 14

My tussle with the rogues proved to be more difficult for two reasons. The first reason was the rain. The grass was wet and slippery. It made it difficult to see. It also made it difficult to move around with clothes plastered to my body. The second reason was because I still had not practiced in months. I was rusty and still on my one muffin a day diet. I felt the sluggishness in my movements and it further frustrated me. I had decapitated the first two but the last two were giving me trouble. I had cut one of their legs but they still snapped and growled at me. These two now stayed to fight probably because I killed the first two of their group. I doubted they thought I was going to be much of an issue when walking into my clearing. They were going to regret it. The bigger of the wolves jumped toward me and as his claws swiped my shoulder, I dug my sword into his stomach. My sword left my hand as the wolf dropped behind me, dead. I grimaced as I felt the pain in my

Vic picked me up, making sure my shoulder was locked against his body. I squeezed my eyes shut as I felt him race through the forest. It was not my first run with Vic. We had worked together multiple times. Usually if the job was in his territory he would join me either during the whole mission or at least for a drink. We had become good friends. He was actually the one who I first encountered and taught me about the supernatural world. Wincing, we came to a stop and I peeled my eyes open. We were already strolling into the hospital doors and I shook my head. “Who needs a vehicle when you can just zip faster than car.” He chuckled and set me down in the lobby. A cute looking nurse came up to us. “How can I help you two?” “She might need stitches.” Vic pushed me forward a bit and pointed to my shoulder. I smiled sweetly. “It’s not as bad as he thinks.” “Come this way and we will take a look.” I followed the nurse and Vic

Chapter 16

The curse slipped from my mouth as I watched Alpha Desmond pass out. I stepped forward but stopped myself. What the hell was I doing? The four men around him quickly ran to his aid. My eyes filled with tears and my body started to shake. “I thought you said he had a wife.” Marcus looked down at me. “My son? He has a wife and two kids.” I looked up at him, the tears now falling down my cheeks. His confusion turned to shock and he put a hand on my arm. “His wife isn’t his mate though, is she…?” I tried to choke out my words between the tears. Realization flashed across his face and his eyes only got bigger. He looked from me to his son. “You’re his mate.” My head fell and I tried to process the information. My mate was the Alpha of this pack. An Alpha who had two kids and a wife. All the information that Marcus had told me about his son now replayed in my brain. It made me grab my arms and hold myself, trying to get the shaking under con

Chapter 17

***Desmond’s POV***   There was a murmur of voices but I couldn’t move. I felt almost trapped in my body. I knew I was breathing, I knew I was sitting, and I knew there were people around me but I couldn’t do anything about it. What was going on? Why was I like this? “We’ve literally tried everything!” “Cold water, slapping him, even trying to bite his ear! Nothing!” “Hold on boys, let Yvonne bring some of her mix.” That was my father. His voice was clearer than the others. There was a moment of silence before I felt my chest pulled up into a sitting position. “Careful, he might accidentally head butt one of you.” That was my mother. I felt something brush against my nose and I took a breath. The scent slapped me in the face and I snapped my head up. Taking a deep breath, I looked around the room. My mother and father, Iggy, Scott, and Ricky were looking at me with worried looks on their faces. “Give it a m

I turned around and looked at all four of them. “What the hell just happened?” I yelled, my voice straining. “She ejected us?” Ricky looked at Marcus who was looking shocked at the forest. “Dad!” He blinked a few times and then looked at me. “She used earth magic.” “She’s not fey though. I thought you said she was human?” Iggy walked over to the front of the Jeep with us. “She isn’t fey. She’s human but I heard a rumor, I’m not sure if it’s true or not but…” He trailed off for a minute. “It’s said that she saved the fey queen from a disaster. The fey queen wanted to adopt her as a child of the fey. It’s more unheard of than the Alpha King giving her an Alpha soul.” “So she is an adopted child of the fey queen?” Ricky sounded shocked and confused. My father shook his head. “She declined the offer according to the rumors. However, the fey queen granted her the ability to tap into the earth, tap into magic.” Looking at me directly

I spent the day in the office at home. Catching up on paperwork that I had missed yesterday. Ricky had come by to drop off more and I just sighed, not even the strength to argue with him about the workload. Everything was taking twice as long as it normally did and I would glance at my phone every minute or so, seeing if Victor would call. The feeling of helplessness was not one I was accustomed to and it made me antsy. My foot tapped against the floor or my finger against the desk. “Dear?” I looked up at Helena, who had was leaning in the doorway of the office. “You should eat something for lunch.” Looking at the clock on my phone, I saw it was one-thirty already and nodded. “Did you want me to make something?” She smiled. “No, I picked up something from the store on my way back today. I have it set on the table.” Nodding, I put down the paper in my hand and stood up. I stretched, feeling the strain in my muscles. My body was involuntarily flexing th
