Chapter 21

ROME WILL BURN "Aaahhhh!!"When the first lash of the whip licks into my skin, the scream that leaves my mouth comes from the very tip of my toes. I can feel the when the metal tip tears into the flesh of my back, ripping it open. Tears won't stop running from my eyes. It's the pain, I don't regret my decision to defy Herberus and the glare I've sent his way makes that very clear to him."Again"The sound of the whip slices through the air once more before connecting with my back. My body arcs in response, wrists straining against the shackles, that binds my hands and feet in place. Every limb tugs, begging for release, the angry red marks the only indication that my body was caving a small section at a time to the madness it was subjected it."Leila"I don't answer him, gritting my teeth and watching as my blood fell drop by drop into the ground creating crimisom stains. "Leila!" Heberus calls more insistent this time. He wants to save face. Make it s

Chapter 22

PERFECTLY IMPERFECT Grayson returns long after noon, silently ignoring me, starting a fire and placing his caught prey of bass attached to a stick over it, leaving the poor creatures to cook. Marie moves about, inching closer and closer to a sleeping wolf, curosity in play than fear. I want to sit up but don't know how I'd manage to move from my position. I sigh a final time resigning myself to my ridiculous fate. F**king Herberus, that whip could probably paralyse me for life. How was I going to protect Marie like this? I was practically and invalid. We were out in the open, exposed to the wind, elements and rather the mercy of whatever managed to pass us by. I move to sit up again, grunting and trembling in pain. Somehow my body's weight suddenly becomes a little lighter and I register thick fingers wrapped around my waist. I glance up finding Grayson, that's more occupied to seeing that I'm doing better than actually utteri

Chapter 23

LOVE YOU EITHER WAY"I didn't realize you were scared"I was probably insulting his office. Okay, I was insulting his office, I doubted there was anything that Grayson was afraid of. He took his whipping like a champ while I'm still debilitated by my lashes. Almost a week ago I wouldn't have dared to say such a thing. It's a wonder what a change of environment will do. Grayson throws me an annoyed look across his shoulder, his gaze saying more than his words will, before going over to pick up Marie by the back of her dress, keeping her away from his treasured pet. "Stay away from him" He chastises the child and Marie sticks her tongue at him. "Don't blame me if he eats you" "He'll do that?" I asked appalled by his statement. "If he's annoyed enough" "Tell him not to" I demand "He doesn't listen to anything I say" "What's the point of having a pet if it doesn't listen?!" Grayson stiffens as if my words have caused him offense.

Chapter 24

MOVING FORWARDMarie doesn't return in time which leaves me worried. She watched her mother die, almost got eaten herself. But Grayson wasn't like the others- well that still remains to be seen. But there are redeeming qualities to him. For one, killing her would have been a piece of cake while I was out those three days, he could've easily lied and said he left her behind and I would have been none the wiser. But he didn't and there isn't enough words to express how grateful I am to him for that. After everything I've been through with Herberus, I couldn't fail her.But I still understood the underlying fear she had. They were predators, we were prey. It's only natural for us to react like this. To want to be on opposites sides of the line. I just don't know what to do about it. If push comes to shove and I'm really forced to return to the camp, I can bear the humiliation and torture. I can bite my tongue and live out my days like th

Chapter 25

GRAYSON TRUTHS I kid you not when I say this woman was made to test every fibre of patience that courses within me. Gerzi had left when we went to the human colony, going back to the Regency to ensure everything was doing fine and I had finally managed to sever Leila from Marie. A rather dirty work I might admit, but it was for the best. I wasn't walking any further with a creature nuturing a festering resentment against me. Especially in the event that I was the one who saved it. For days now something just felt off. I couldn't place my finger on it but I knew staying around would eventually prove what it was. And here it was indeed. I was only gone for a matter of maybe half an hour when all the hairs on my skin raised in awareness. The pungent smell was every where and clouding my senses. I wasn't in the mood to go after it, espcially when I knew leaving Leila for too long meant I had more problems to deal with and it wasn't as if she wouldn't try. A part of me wanted to belie

Chapter 26

UNMENTIONED WORDS Our relationship doesn't improve and just like Marie had, I know I've started to resent Grayson somewhat. It's a mix of feelings I cannot sort through. It's not as if I'm ungrateful for all the care he's given me, but just the thought of him having a hand in trafficking the humans makes me sick. I can't get over it. I'm not special, I don't see myself as being special. It could have been me out there. He allowed those wretched monsters to devour and hurt Trish and for that my heart can't ever forgive them. Werewolves were monsters and humans were just to blame for stooping to their levels. So yes, maybe there is a difference between Grayson and Herberus. There's a big difference, but I don't want to think of them right now while I'm wallowing in self-righteousness. "We need to find shelter before the rain" Grayson grumbles and I glance up to find the graying billows tumbling across the sky. He's not tellin

Chapter 27

I force myself to eat but the food is tasteless. It's tasteless because I know I'm the reason Grayson left and I'm afraid he won't return. I'm not suppose to care about hurting a werewolf's feeling, days ago I wouldn't have given a crabs ass about it. But that was days ago, things have changed alot since then. Sun finally peaks out at some point, the heavy rains ceased and when I peer outside the window, I groan at the substantial amount of water that has gathered outside. If I'm being honest, I couldn't mind settling here, I'm so tired of having to move all the time and being wounded doesn't make the adventure any feasible. But atlas I don't have a say in whatever Grayson decides, until my back heals, I can only give him grief, but that's it. I creep back to my bed, lying against it and watch the door. I listen for footsteps that don't come, neither does the door open revealing the large lug of a man that has been chasing me since time eternal. The fire before me screams for fuel as

IGNITE What the hell does he even mean by that?!"Yes I have!" I reiterate"No you haven't," Grayson states coldly.I wiggle beneath him once more and this time Grayson grips both my hips."Leila stop. You're gonna get us both in trouble if you keep this up.""You stop."Grayson groans, taking hold on both my hands lying atop me. He's heavy, but I can tell he hasn't placed his entire weight against me. His eagerness pokes at me and I find it funny that at least one part of him has a sense of humor while the other is always so tense. "Be honest. If you've felt this way before then you'd know what's going on.""I don't know what you're talking about but I'm perfectly normal.""Normal yes, but your behavior isn't. Leila you didn't even want me to carry you just a day ago much more to touch any intimate part of you.""Will you please get off. You're like a rock."My playfulness has turned into angst that even I'm surprised as my evident moodiness. Grayson rolls away and I turn lying on m

Chapter 29

TRUCEMy lower parts hummed with new life, electricity surging through my body, jumping from him to be and backwards everytime our skin connects. I don't know what this is between us and the delightful sensations just keep errupting over and over again. I'm still there with him physically but losing my mine, and oh my oh....My body shudders as waves after waves collide within me. Grayson sucks on my skin, finding that sensitive place at the hollow of my neck, his tongue dancing back and forth while my hand grips his shirt bundling the fabric between my fingers. My head hits the wall of the hut, feet becoming jello, but he catches me, an arm anchoring me against him while Grayson pressed into me. God I hated how full and tender my breasts felt. Every sensation, every tingle felt too surreal. Why didn't I know about any of this?"Gray..." My toes curled, core throbbed, heart accelerated and I was gasping for breath like a fish outside of water.I was going to

NUSIANCES It's official. We were both staying together through sheer stubbornness to abandon each other. I think we'd be the first interspecies couple-item, whatever the label might be. The whole thought process surrounding it just feels wrong. But Grayson's fine with it. Either Werewolves or humans would surely seek to kill us once they found out, he isn't bothered by that thought either. He's a creature of war, he'll fight for us. But while I don't doubt his abilities to protect us, I still think we're idiots with a death wish. I don't think he's thinking logically. There's nothing that points to our compatibility and even if or when we do manage to have a more intimate relationship, that doesn't mean I'll be able to carry his child. He hasn't thought about that."You won't be able to have children you know" I say to him.Grayson glances up from his work that he's doing to the hut that we now call home."Says who?""Genetics. We're two
