Chapter 21

To keep walking as if I was not completely angry with the being next to me was difficult, especially since he was whistling along the way, as if he could not be more relaxed.   I knew he was mad at me, but apparently today he couldn’t care less about that. I wasn’t sure if it was because he felt confident that he would win the argument, or because he really didn’t care what I did or didn’t do.   I opened the door to the bookcase, too used to the little tinkle of the bell on the door to pay much attention to it. Although Donovan did look puzzled for a second. The bookstore was empty, usually because it was so early.   As soon as I entered, I noticed that the boss seemed to be waiting for me. I frowned immediately, that was not usual.   “Juliet!” The boss yelled as soon as she looked at me entering the bookstore. “I heard everything. How are you girl?”   She approached me, checking

Chapter 22

“You had no fucking rights! Who the hell do you think you are?”   “I am your owner, Juliet.” He growled in a deep voice. His face became a mask of rage and fury.   “I don’t belong to you,” I spat. “Go to hell, Donovan.”   I started walking away, leaving it captured. I ran all the way home, locking all the entrances. I didn’t want to see it, not now. Even if his intentions were good, even if he wanted to help me.   I knew I was being a bit irrational, but my feelings were running high. I felt on the brink, as if I was about to be defeated. I didn’t like feeling like this, I didn’t want to feel like this.   “Damn,” I yelled in frustration.   “Wow, what a very warn welcome,” I heard a voice behind me.   My instincts screamed of danger. That voice was not known. Had someone broken into the house?   I turned over my spot s

Chapter 23

Donovan didn’t let go of me, even as my nose stopped bleeding and my body began to sweat from his closeness and warmth. Why had he hugged me? I had two theories.   Theory One: He was trying to keep himself from attacking me.   Theory two: I was trying to protect myself from the newcomer, that dangerous-looking vampire.   It could even be both at the same time, there was a possibility. I didn’t need to be too smart to know that blood and vampires weren’t the safest combination on the planet.   Donovan’s closeness made me much more nervous than Raven’s presence. It was funny, but Donovan was much more dangerous and captivating than this vampire who was just a child.   Were they related? Probably. They had many similarities, in their dark eyes and at the same time as red as a ruby. The black color of his hair was interesting and captivating. Also, Raven seemed to want to imitate Don

Chapter 24

“What should I bring?” I asked, defeated.   “Only what is necessary. We’ll buy a few things on the way, ”he said.   I got up from the couch, unwilling. Maybe I didn’t have too many belongings. I would just pack a few clothes and prized items. The rest would surely end up looted when they noticed that no one was home.   I entered the room, looking at everything with love and nostalgia. We never had a lot of money, but we were happy. My father worked and my mother always stayed at home.   When the children began to arrive, the place became too small for everyone. Mom always insisted on moving us to another place, a safer one.   But my father always had a weakness for alcohol. The money was not enough. Go to other place? It sounded impossible.   Our childhood, however, was happy. My mother loved to bake and was gleaning selling her breads and sweets. The laughs

Chapter 25 - Donovan

Donovan.    I rented a car as soon as Juliet said she was going to pack. I didn’t feel comfortable leaving her alone, so I ordered Raven to be close. Of course, I also threatened to cut off his hands if he dared to touch her again.   My cousin was still barely a baby compared to the other vampires. Our lives used to be very long, so Raven at fourteen, was just a kid trying to act like a big boy. We used to give him little jobs, like, for example, being a courier. He came all the way here just to tell me that my vacation is over, that it was time to return to the throne for at least a little while.   So I thought about how I would get out of here with four humans. It wasn’t as easy as it seemed, especially since Juliet forbade her siblings to find out what I was. So my solution was to find a car.   I needed a big car, since we were a lot of people and I also had to find a place f

Chapter 26 - Donovan

Donovan. I took the necessary documents with me. I knew he didn’t really need them, but it was better to do things legally. In addition, I knew exactly who to contact to expedite the procedures.    I left high school, a little upset. I didn’t like thinking about all the work my girl had to do. And much less seeing that she had people who could help.    And they did not.    I asked the phone in the truck.    “Who’s speaking?” I heard a shrill voice ask.    “The boy of your dreams,” I replied.    “Donovan.” Estelle smiled, even though I coul

Chapter 27

Donovan kissed me.     Fear and shock left me paralyzed for a few seconds. But Donovan didn’t stop. He pulled me closer to him, his hands gripping my waist tightly and that brought me back to reality. I reciprocated his kiss, because there was no human way to refuse a kiss from Donovan Vladimir San Victores.   I felt a little pain in my lower lip and realized that he had bitten me. I wasn’t sure if he did it intentionally or not, but I wasn’t going to sit idly by.     I nibbled at his, hearing him growl in approval. His hands ran down my back, while mine began to play with his hair. The more time passed, the kiss became more wild and passionate.     “You are mine, Juliet. So forget about Romeos.”   “Don’t worry,” I replied, agitated. “I never expected one.”     I moaned softly when he kissed me again, much m

Chapter 28

The journey was slow and tedious. The minutes felt like hours, while the hours felt like days. I can’t deny that giving the brats mobile devices didn’t help, on the contrary, it made the nightmare just a bad dream.   There was only forest to be seen everywhere. My siblings got distracted by the phones Donovan got them. Jake and Julia watched a movie together, while Justin reviewed each app carefully and curiously. I, on the other hand, refused to touch it. I didn’t want to use something that Donovan bought without my consent.   I didn’t feel overly communicative. Everyone in the car noticed. Luckily for me, my siblings knew it was best not to get too upset when I was that way. Even Jake and Julia, who were so awful that there was no way to stop them, were silent, watching their animated movie.   We took a few stops to go to the bathroom and another to dine on the sandwiches that Justin had been in charge of making. My st

Chapter 29

“Yeah, well,” I agreed.   “This way,” Donovan pointed out, pointing to doors on the sides of the stairs. “There is the dining room and the kitchen. After you take a break, I will ask the service to cook you a good breakfast. If anyone gets hungry in the meantime, they are free to stop by whenever they want.”   It wouldn’t be easy to keep those kids out of the kitchen, I thought for a second.   “And on this side is the living room. Dances, banquets and more are offered there.” He pointed out. “The first floor has access to everything you might need, so don’t hesitate to come here. Now, I’ll show you their rooms and then give you a tour of the place.”   Bedrooms? Did he say rooms? In plural? I wasn’t sure how to feel about it, but we followed him up the stairs.   We went up to the third floor, as elegant as everything in the place. Even trying to show off a rustic charm, elegance w

Chapter 30

Donovan.  Letting Juliet sleep was a bit of a hassle for me. After all, vampires didn’t sleep. I was nervous about having her here in my home. I grew up in this castle and everyone who lived here was loyal to me, however, that did not calm my anxiety.   “Sir.” The maid bowed, she was short with dark hair. I was nervous about what she would have to tell me. “Your guest rooms are empty.”    I was in my office. I was expecting a visitor, so I hadn’t moved from my spot. Only people could interrupt me when I was here, with a few exceptions. Like the one where my guests disappeared from their rooms.    “Hey. How empty?” I asked, feeling concern wash over me.    I had chosen this castle because I trusted every one o
