Chapter 90

Stefan   Inside the dazzling cavernous room, Stefan was breathless. The chief stood behind him, reverence on his face and awe written in his eyes. “The den of the Celestials.” Chief Yungerr whispered. Since Clarissa had the key for the last 19 years, it had been at least that long since the door was opened. The chief never saw the inside of this room, but there had been so many stories. Real-life was twice what the stories elaborated. Stefan walked around the room slowly. He noted the various eggs and understood their history.

Chapter 91

Stefan  Stefan and the basilisk charged through the halls. She moved fast for just being hatched. Sometimes Stefan was in the lead, and others the basilisk.  Clarissa’s trail led to a small room barely inside the mountain. Chief Yungerr followed behind them, falling farther and farther away. But when they stopped at the entrance to the room, Stefan turned to see him catching up. The basilisk didn’t wait for Stefan, who followed quickly. The small room was unremarkable except for a large mirror exhibiting signs of magic use. Blake created a portal for them to escape through!

Chapter 92

Clarissa   “Tonight, an Onyx Sage was born.” Chief Yungerr exclaimed.  The immediate whispers in the crowd gave the position of Onyx Sage to Chief Yungerr. Clarissa fought the urge to sink beneath the table. Chief Yungerr would soon reveal the truth. Were they ready? “And then another!” He called out, and silence echoed through the room. “That is when I discovered Clarissa has been an Onyx Sage for many years. Yet she did not know her sacred position.” A sense of confusion ran through the crowd as they remained silent. They didn’t know what to think, never mind what to say. But Chief Yungerr didn’t give them a chance to figure it out. “Step forward,

Chapter 93

Stefan  Blake stood there with his hands all over Clarissa, and Stefan felt himself losing control. What made it worse was how tenderly she returned his affection. His insides were collapsing on themselves, and the only thing he could do was destroy the threat before it was too late!As Stefan leaped forward, Lotus grabbed his arm between her small back teeth. The sharp bones sliced through his skin. Her eyes rolled back in her head as she tasted blood. Stefan cried out as she whipped him backward. He stumbled to the ground, and she released him. His blood boiled with rage as he glared at his traitorous familiar. ‘How co

Chapter 94

Clarissa The room that the werecats provided them was almost as big as the room they had negotiated in. The table in the center could fit an entire family- grandparents, aunts, and uncles included. Cushions perfectly fitted to each familiar lay along the walls. After some debate, Clarissa was able to form a shaky alliance between the three of them. Once both men agreed their primary goal was to help and defend her, she was able to relax enough to start eating. The beautiful violet flower grew on the vine, with green leaves sprouting around it. A large yellow stamen adorned the center. Baking it darkened the color of the petals to an inky purple, l

Chapter 95

Clarissa With no windows to let the sunlight in, Clarissa was unsure what time of day it was when she awakened. But she awoke feeling better than she had in a long time. She was well-rested. Her dreams were happy. She met her goal of saving her mother yesterday. Blake was back, and Stefan would remain. Standing, Clarissa stretched. Her body popped and strained, but the journey’s muscle soreness was rapidly healing.  ‘Mimi!’ She reached out with her mind. ‘I thought you would sleep all day.’ Mimi grunted. &l

Chapter 96

Stefan   When Blake forced Stefan out of the strip, the referee called the point. But Blake didn’t relent until his saber landed squarely across Stefan’s back. Stefan growled against the sting. He fumed. Blake was cheating again. He should have stopped when the point was called! Stefan turned to face Blake, lowering his head as a bull would. Blake grinned at him cheerfully. “Don’t bring Clarissa into this. Remember she kissed me without the magic of the Pisces!” Blake told him before turning to walk to the center of the strip. Stefan leaped on top of Blake, and they went rolling in the dirt. Fists and feet f

Chapter 97

Clarissa  The werecats had emptied the town center, setting up tables enough for all the villagers. Their werecat escort led to the triangular table in the center, where they arranged places for them to sit together.  While full, long tables surrounded theirs, this one had only enough seats for the sages and their familiars. There was no head of the table, and only the familiar would sit next to any particular Onyx Sage. Clarissa hoped it would limit the disagreements between Blake and Stefan. Along the outside of the seating tables, food stations were set up.  The smell that came from them made her mouth water and her stomach grumble. She came hungry, but she a

Chapter 98

Clarissa  Lotus left the balls of light floating magically in the air as she returned to the table. Clarissa stared at them in awe. They were not too bright but still allowed them to see without the interruption of shadow. “There we go. We can sssee all.” Lotus said, self-satisfied. Clarissa’s giggles bubbled up. Lotus’s bored expression asked what was so funny. But that only made her laugh harder. “You chose the right sage,” Clarissa said through her laughter. “You and Stefan are perfect companions.”

Chapter 99

Clarissa   The rest of the evening moved swiftly and pleasantly. Blake and Stefan sat at the table, making light conversation. She enjoyed being with both of them without them fighting. However strange it was. Parents gathered their young ones and retired to their homes for bedtime. Childless werecats sat around talking with pints of ale. “We should probably head back too,” Clarissa suggested with a yawn as Mimi, Eriyumilai, and Lotus gathered around their table. Blake and Stefan were both quick to agree. Clarissa couldn’t help but feel like she missed something with them, some understanding they gained while rolling arou
