Chapter 21: The Dead Of Night

“Crunch” Hearing a noise, I hesitate to open my eyes for fear of what I might find right in front of my face.  “Crunch” I hear it again and then force myself to deal with the situation by slowly opening my eyes and confronting them.  By now the light has all died out from the candles and lanterns, but there is finally moonlight that is cascading in through the window and I watch as the light dances off the ceiling.  As my eyes travel down the wall, they focus on something really small scurrying along the floorboards and then I realize that it is just a tiny mouse with a piece of bread in its mouth, hurrying off to its home in the wall. Squinting, I see his little beady black eyes as he chitters at me with excitement before disappearing into the tiny hole by my bed.  “Hm.  That’s what I heard?” I murmur under my breath as a chill runs down my spine because it is a little cool for a summer night. After he disappears, I g

Chapter 22: After Everything

Returning home, I start to see the morning sunlight peak over the tree line, as I glance over at Dominic who hasn’t said a word to me since the minute we left.  Matter of fact, it was so quiet that I could hear myself think clearly for once and that doesn’t usually ever happen.  The only thing that was louder was the constant glares and stares from him when I would slow down, and he wanted to run.I can’t believe that he was just about to take me just a few hours earlier, but then the reality of the situation came crashing down and interrupted it all.  Not wanting to anger him worse than he already is, I choose to stay silent until we get back.  The minute we step in the door however, I feel relieved and let out a loud sigh before he glances over at me and realizes just how much this has taken out of me. Frowning he states, “If you were so tired and couldn’t keep up, why didn’t you just say so?  I would

Chapter 23: The Alpha From Another Time

Hearing a loud conversation in the next room, I leave the comfort of the kitchen after grabbing a snack from the fridge, and stroll into where Dominic and another much older Alpha whom I forgot his name is sitting.  Remembering that I met him the second day I was here, doesn’t help to say the least because there were too many Alphas that I met that day and the next.  However, the minute I step in the room, they both glare at me and then Dominic speaks up and says, “Ah, Ana my dear.  We were just talking about you.”  Concerned immediately by this, I step back and start to leave before I hear something I shouldn’t have.  But then Dominic bolts up out of his seat and grabs my forearm before leading me to a seat and stating, “I had been wondering when you would get up.  It is past 1 in the afternoon.”  His eyes full of challenge today, stare me down before I dare speak. Knowing that means for me to be careful of what I say to the Alpha

Chapter 24: I Really Don't Think He Will Ever Change His Mind

“Ana.” I hear my name called out into the darkness like a whisper but a little louder.  As I stare around the room, I look in the corner where my rocking chair is and see Dominic staring at me with half open lids.  He looks tired, and I only wish that he would just come to bed so he would sleep for once in many weeks.  Noting that he doesn’t move, I sit up and gaze at him from where I sit.  With a half-smile, half-smirk he stares deep into my eyes before he glances down to my chest.  Then only then does he get out of the chair and stroll slowly over to the bed.  Almost is if he is still trying to make up his mind if he is going to do this. Waiting for him to make the first move, I sit up even taller and watch as he gets closer and closer with his eyes trained on my breasts.  When he stumbles and almost falls, I realize that he is drunk and then ask him, “Dominic, have you been drinking?” Stumbling once more and nearl

Chapter 25: There Is Always A Surprise Around Every Corner

Realizing too late, that I am under its spell, I stand there frozen waiting for something bad to happen.  The thing that I had originally thought was a wolf, is now in the shape of a man again and he looks just like Alpha Tomas.  He is staring down at me with the most ill intent of anyone I have ever known but does nothing except for stare at me as if he owns my soul. I hear a sound off in the distance and then I watch silently as Alpha Tomas or whatever it is that has taken his shape, turns around and stares off to where the sound came from.  At that moment, he must lose control of me because suddenly I feel like I can move.  Before he turns back around, I launch myself in the direction of the front door.  Unfortunately, I don’t make it in time, and I know it when I feel his fingers around my neck as they tighten, making me black out.  When I come to, I realize that I must have been out only for a second, because when I raise my head, I

Chapter 26: Returning Home Feels So Much Sweeter

The minute, he lifts me up into his arms and carries me in the door, I know that things will be so much better.  The look in his eyes tells me that he really was scared to lose me this time.  Perhaps he has had a change of heart. As I still stare into his eyes, I wonder something.  Does this mean he will finally mate with me?  Or will we continue the original dance?  I don’t know if I can take much more of this. While he carries me up the stares to my bedroom, I hope that soon it will become ours again and that this will be all over and done with.  But the moment, he opens the door to the bedroom, I sense a change in him, and his eyes grow cold when he looks away and begins to stare at the bed.  His smile turns to a frown and his demeanor changes from one of a man so glad to see me to someone who could care less. I close my eyes when he places me down on the edge of the bed and then he starts to turn around before I

Chapter 27: I Am So Confused

“Get up.” I turn over to see Monique staring at me while still sleepy eyed and having a hard time focusing my eyes on her cheery smile.  It feels like I didn’t sleep at all because last night Dominic kept tossing and turning.  Every time I got comfortable, he ended up moving and then snoring again.  I think the worst part was when I woke up about 4 a.m., he actually had a massive erection, and it was cutting into my side.  It made me wonder exactly what he was dreaming about and then I heard him call someone’s name.  Of course, it wasn’t mine and that disturbed me to no end.  The rest of the night I did touch and goes till Monique woke me up just now. Trying to remember the name he called out.  I shake my messy mane of golden locks and then decide I had better get up before she pulls me out of bed.  Watching as she goes to straighten up things in the room, I sit up and then poise myself on the end of the bed.  Deci

Chapter 28: Do I Need To Worry?

“I can’t believe that she is just a friend.”  I murmur so softly it’s barely audible.  This Evangeline that Dominic claims is his friend, sounds more like a long-time lover who isn’t up to snuff to be his queen and Luna.  She must be someone who is an Omega, or even worse from a rogue family.  How could I have been so blind though? Everyday he disappears for hours, and I have no idea what he is doing.  I mean he pretty much shuts me up in this castle without any friends except for Monique and I don’t have anything to do but to read and walk the gardens.  It almost reminds me of someone who is a prisoner of their own domain.  Matter of fact, it is pretty sad once you start to really think about it. Till now, I hadn’t worried about it too much because I figured someday, he would let me in on his little secrets and share more of himself with me.  But now, I realize that is what Evangeline is for.  She is his confidant

Chapter 29: The Blow Up

“Why is he still here?”  I yell at the top of my lungs before throwing my book clear across the room. Feeling so upset that I can’t even concentrate, I watch Dominic pace around the room before he replies, “Because he is important.  I can’t just go around banishing everyone from the castle and the territory, can I?” Walking up to him and looking up into his eyes, I ask, “Or is it because it was a servant that it happened to, and she is less important than I am?” The minute the words leave my lips, I regret them because he stands over me by a full foot and leans down before saying spitefully in my face, “I would not be a good king if I didn’t take both sides into consideration would I and the welfare of the kingdom.  He swears that she offered herself to him so she could get ahead.  He said that she is looking to become a Luna so she can get out of this trade.” Scoffing at what he has said, I quickly come back with, “There is no way

Chapter 30: Finally Meeting Evangeline

“Knock” “Knock” As I sit on the couch reading, I hear a knock at the door which startles me a little.  Enough to make me drop my book.  “Dang it.”  I murmur under my breath when I must find my bookmark and try to remember which page I was on.  When I see the page, I place the bookmark in it carefully and stand up.  Hearing the knock again, I walk to the door and ask, “Who is it?” Before waiting silently to the side. Dominic opens it quickly and walks in with a woman following closely behind him.  She is taller than I expected by a whole foot or so and quite skinny for a woman.  Matter of fact, she reminds me of a prepubescent boy growing into his own skin. Her face is very plain, but her eyes peer through to my soul and that unnerves me right away.  It’s as if she knows exactly what I am thinking and yet she doesn’t say anything.  Instead, she stands quietly with her hands clasped together and her e
