51 // Home Sweet Home

"Are you going to stand there all day?" Logan asked as Antonina remained rooted at the main entrance to the mansion.  "I'm going to stand here until you take me back to my house," she said stubbornly, hugging herself as she looked around in discomfort.  Logan shifted his weight from one foot to the other, something at the back of his head telling him she was thinking about the night of the engagement party. He felt guilty and felt the need to apologise again, but could not find it in him; after all, it was not like she was also not keeping things from him. He reassured himself.   He rolled his eyes at her and scoffed. "Listen, woman. I–" he started towards her, but was interrupted by Thuso. Damn! He thought. He had almost forgotten about him!  "Boss? You are back," the big guy walked towards Logan in his signature black suit and T-shirt.

52 // Home Sweet Home Too

"It was not real; it was all a lie. They lied to me, they lied to me!" Logan yelled as he came down on his knees, his chest rising frantically as he breathed heavily.  Antonina came into the room once he seemed a bit calmer, she had waited outside while he teared the place down and yelled as if his life depended on it.  Obviously he had thought he was over his pain when he returned to work and then went to London.   The reason she had encouraged him to go to London was that he could get a chance to speak to MJ and get the closure he needed. She could see it eating him up every time someone paid their condolences and from all the pitiful looks he received.  She thought he had spoken to MJ – he told her he had spoken to her. Clearly, he lied, and now they were back to square one; hopefully, he would not drown himself in alcohol again, or better yet, go aroun

53 // Board Meeting

"Good Afternoon, Gentlemen and lady. I hope I'm not too early," MJ Billings greeted smoothly as she strolled into the boardroom, where Billings Corporations shareholders alongside Jorge and Sandra, had been waiting for over an hour.  None of the faces seemed to be impressed with her grand entrance, only Sandra responded with a warm smile courtesy of her speedy recovery, the other men looked grumpy and hateful, while Jorge seemingly rolled his eyes.  On a positive note, everything else seemed to be in place, Cameron had done an impressive job at setting up the boardroom as much as he did disappearing. For perfectly obvious reasons, he did not want to see Jorge, especially since they still had an unresolved identity issue as well as the fact that Cameron still had to go home to see Logan.  MJ was surprised that he still stuck with her even after all the workload she put on him to prepare for th

54 // Home Sweet Home Pt.3

Stepping into Antonina's house felt like a fresh start for Logan. It was not just a small house with old and cheap furniture or worn out paint, broken basin, or a small kitchen.  It was his home.  Home. He never thought he would ever say that word before. His house was not home; it was just a house filled with material things. It did not give him the peaceful feeling he had right now.  "Home sweet home," he said finally and plopped down on the couch, the weight of his trip and emotional turmoil from earlier, finally resting on his shoulders.  "Don't you think you should probably take a shower before relaxing? You've been travelling for hours, now you are covered in sweat from all that exercising you were doing," Ants complained and dropped her things on the floor.  Logan laughed at her last comment. "Exercising?" He joked.

55 // House

Javier looked at his watch for the nth time since he arrived at the gate of the property his sister was trying to sell. It looked quite familiar, but he could not remember where he had seen it or if he had been here before.  The gate opened behind him as Brianna's company car pulled up next to him, and she rolled down her window, staring at him from behind her sunglasses. "Stop looking so angry, I said 14:30, not 14:00," she said and then pulled inside the yard.  He sighed and followed her inside, a frown on his face as recognition clicked in his head as he passed the ugly fountain. Wasn't this Alastair Cooper's house? Damn! He has not even been dead for a month and his wife was already cashing in on his stuff. He thought as he entered the house, where Brianna was seated on the staircase.  She looked nervous and yet deviant. "Isn't this Alastair Cooper's house?" He asked to clear the tension

56 // Amends

Apparently, she was not the only one who missed La Café, La Café and its staff and customers missed her too. The moment she entered through the doors, she was greeted with hugs, kisses, breakfast invitations for a chat, and a lot more.  "Wow, they really missed you!" Mosetsana laughed and came around the counter with two plates from the Kids Breakfast Section of the menu. Antonina frowned as she watched her give those plates to two beautiful children. "Come on, guys. Eat up so that we can get you to school."  "Yes, Rakgadi," the kids chorused.   Aunt? Were these not her children, why were they calling her aunt instead of mom? It was a boy and a girl; they both shared their mother's caramel skin and dark African hair. The girl looked about ten in age, while the boy was probably still doing his grade R.   "And careful not to mess your school uni

57 // Sister Branch

The trip to the sister branch was quite a long one due to the traffic, as well as the wait and process of getting everyone under the same roof at the same time. On top of that, security had to make sure that everything was in place, while at the same time, the receptionists set up the reception desk as a podium.  The building was exactly that, a sister branch; it shared the same name, played a similar role, but differed in structure and design in comparison to the main branch. It was twenty storeys less than the main building, with aluminum glass covering the entire building from top to bottom, in all sides, with the light giving it a transparent sky blue colour.  The interior was furnished with metallic silver office equipment, with occupational laws and regulations on the notice boards. Typical of Alastair Cooper, he was not exactly a fan of repeating himself when it came to rules and discipline.

58 // War Cry

"Parker, who's Namhla?"   Logan groaned as Antonina barged into his office. It had not even been an hour since he last saw her, and she was already in his office, asking about Thuso's wife.  "Couldn't you wait for another hour or two before invading my space, lady? And what happened to knocking?" He asked in a mock annoyance voice, to which she rolled her eyes and smiled.  "Don't be so full of yourself." She took a seat across him. "And one other thing, I know a bit of Sotho, and I could have sworn I heard Mosetsana's kids call her aunt."  Logan laughed and shook his head, his eyes set on the screen in front of him. "I hope you didn't ask her if she was Namhla."  "No," Antonina dragged with a grin.  "But you almost did?" He shook his head and placed his papers aside before turning his attention to her. "Thuso i

59 // Recommendation

"Are you okay?" Sandra asked as she walked into MJ's office. They had just returned from Alastair's building, and MJ was not the same after spending two hours in his office.  By the time she came out, she wouldn't look anyone in the eyes, and Sandra could have sworn she saw a bit of red there.   She was quiet throughout the entire drive back to her office, and before they left, she ordered that she didn't want anyone going to Alastair's office.  Sandra knew what MJ was going through, she was experiencing the same thing every time she went back to Alastair's home, which he left to her. She felt the same pain every time she entered his bedroom to be engulfed by his scent, and every time she moved or touched something, it felt like that familiar smell would fade away like he did.  The same thing with his office, it smelled of him and everything in it spoke of him a

60 // Crime Scene

Sirens echoed throughout the city as police vehicles and ambulances rushed to La Café.  Logan could not keep up with the gathering crowds. His heart beat palpitated as he ran towards the café, and the scene that played out before his eyes was in every way unpleasant.  The sun shone and reflected on the broken glass shards outside what used to be the perfect view of La Café. That on its own was enough to make Logan believe that no one in that café survived, because the whole front was covered in glass only.  "No." He breathed, his feet coming to a stop in front of the café. This felt worse than the time MJ went missing, it was too real and yet so surreal like nothing he had ever seen before.  Bodies were scattered everywhere in and outside the café, and there was blood splattered across the floor. The shooters had obviously sh
