Chapter 21

I awoke painfully slow, my mind dull and unable to comprehend what was going on around me; the room full of faces that I didn’t recognise. I groaned when a stranger ripped open the front of my dress, smearing a strange cream over the wounds I knew to be there; the pain unbearable as it soaked into my skin. I whimpered as two bald headed women lifted me into a seated position on the overly large bed, wrapping a bandage around the place where Berus had forced the aura form my body. I whimpered, attempting to push the human’s away from me, I couldn’t do it; it hurt too much. I wanted to go home, but I knew that I couldn’t, that it was impossible to do so. I crashed my fist into the side of one of their faces, a deep searing panic overwhelming me as I screamed out, they were hurting me. But why? Why were they doing this?A familiar face blurred to my side; the link I could feel between us stronger than ever as he spoke within my mind. “

Chapter 22

“Sire, don’t do anything you will regret. Remember that we need her.”Silas growled again, throwing me back into the ground as he spoke; “You should be grateful that you are still breathing, I told you to tell no one of our mind link.”“I’m sorry master.” I whispered, wiping the tears from my cheeks.“You need to be more careful witch, if the wrong person heard you, both you and the prince would be in grave danger.” The Caprotti vampire warned me, though it was something that I already knew.I was aware that our connection was dangerous, that others would want to use me against the prince, ensure that I gave away his weaknesses. Yet, even with being in his mind, I could see none, I could find no weakness; though I suspect that was because he was masking them from me and I didn’t blame him. I wasn’t exactly showing that I was trustworthy, I had betrayed him already, I had tried t

Chapter 23

“That doesn’t fill me with confidence about him. I do admire his devotion to you, could I ever be like that?” I asked, only just realising what I had thought and sent via our link.“Why Fraulein, I do believe you can in time, once you see I’m not your enemy.” His sincere response catching me slightly off guard.“You killed my mother; I would say you are the enemy.” I thought, not realising what I had said until it was too late; a small gasp escaping my lips.“I understand your feelings but your mother attacked me first. To begin with I had no intention of taking her life.” he growled slightly, sending his real intention swirling through my mind.He was telling the truth, he wasn’t going to kill her, not until she attacked him; until she broke the rules and rebelled. Yet she saw it as though she had no other choice, she believed he would kill us both because my father had tried to run with u

Chapter 24

I was brutally awoken by a thundering bang, followed by several less intense knocks, I pulled the blanket over my shoulders, quickly noticing the pale ink gown by the bottom of the bed. Had the healer already been? Had I slept through it all? I climbed to my feet, pleased when nothing hurt nor ached, hurriedly throwing the dress over my exposed body and walking towards the door; not sure what to expect.“Wake up filthy witch!” Came a vicious voice, the voice of a vampire I didn’t recognise, though I could sense it was an undead creature.I stopped just before the door, too afraid to open it in case it wasn’t one of Silas’ men. “I’m awake.” I shouted out; my tone sterner than it was meant to be.“I am to escort you to Prince Silas immediately.” The voice boomed. “As to what he wants with you is beyond me.” Which was said under his breath.“Why did he not come for me

Chapter 25

I nodded, sending Ezio’s furious thoughts barrelling towards the prince’s mind, my own thoughts mixed in as I sent them; unsure why he didn’t believe me, I had never lied to him. I searched Marianne’s mind, her confusion only rising as time passed; not entirely sure what was going on around her. She didn’t understand why I was so powerful and how I could read their minds with ease when a witch has never been recorded as being able to do such a thing, believing now that I was something special. Someone they could use.“Well.” Silas said, resting his chin between his finger and thumb, “This changes things, we actually can plan better with this new found ability.”“What do you mean Silas?” Marianne asked, intrigued by his words as much as she was interested by me.“All will be revealed when the time is right, but for now; we could use her to find out whether the Phantomhives are readying for wa

Chapter 26

“Now we are alone Fraulein, I have some words of advice to part on you regarding Marianne.” Said Silas a few minutes after the door shut.“Yes, Master” I said, trying to be as obedient as possible. “I would like to have as much help as I can get.”“Look Fraulein, I only expect you to be so formal in front of Vampires and the sort. Things don’t have to be so intense when it is just you and I. Though I still expect you to watch your tongue and be obedient.” Silas’ tone firm but unusually soft.“Alright, if you are sure.” I said, almost whispering as I wasn’t entirely convinced that it would be ok not to call him my master when we were alone. What if someone overheard?“You worry too much.” He chuckled, making it past the barrier I had created between our minds; though I still didn’t know what he was thinking. He was much better at this than I was.I rose t

Chapter 27

“Now Fraulein, A guard will come to escort you to your chambers where you will meet with Marianne.” He turned to the door and walked off with something almost like a spring in his step.I stood in there in awe, what had changed within him? Something had, I just didn’t know what, he was nicer; he considered my opinions and suggestions. He listened to me. I mutely nodded towards the guard that entered the meeting room looking for me, quickly following him towards the chamber, the door having been repaired. I reached out my mind to Silas as I entered my room, forgetting that he was originally going to tell me something about Marianne, something I needed to know.“What was the important information I needed to know whilst training with Miss Scarlette?” I asked mutely, sending the question swimming around his mind.“Ah yes, Marianne is unforgiving when it comes to training.” Came his thoughts, though I still had no idea what

Chapter 28

“Not before you show me.”I shook my head, taking a step away from the vampire. “I would like to show you at the same time I show my master, Ma’am.”“That is not possible my dear, your dear master is entertaining an important guest so I suggest you tell me and I will decide if it warrants his attention.” Marianne replied sternly, ripping the note from my hand.“Wait...” I protested, quickly shutting my mouth when she shot me a glance; one that terrified me greatly.“So, the rebels have contacted you because your father was one of them. Filthy rebel scum! You should be killed for just having shared blood with them!” She exploded with rage as she took a threatening step towards me; her eyes coated with hatred.I searched her mind, shocked to find she had every intention of killing me instead of taking me to Silas, panic rippling through me. “NO, you don’t understand. Chapter 29

“Luna is not a Marshall, her mother met Stephen Marshall after Fraulien was born, marrying him before she knew of his actions with the rebel witches and warlocks. But her mother never revealed the fact she was married to a rebel to her vampire handler, nor did she tell her own daughter he wasn’t her real father.” Silas explained, his words carefully chosen as if rehearsed. “Which helps explain how she has no traits from her “father” and has no desire to join the rebels, she knows their numbers have waned in recent times due to them being ineffective against us.”I gasped when I heard the words leave his lips, Stephen wasn’t my father?! What did he mean, if he wasn’t, then who was? Who did I belong to? I rose to my feet, taking a step towards them as if in a trance; “What else do you know?” I asked him.Marianne smiled, “Do you have proof of this?” she asked, negating my question as Silas&rsqu

Chapter 30

“I told you Fraulein was loyal, I told you that she would obey me and you will never lay a hand on her again, not unless I give the order. Is that clear?”  Marianne nodded, glancing towards me as she sighed; her tone small and seemingly understanding, something that was rare from a vampire. “I am sorry for your loss child; your mother should not have had to endure what she did under our noses. We should have noticed.” An apology from a vampire? A high ranking one at that? This was something that caught me off guard but I knew she meant it; “Thank you Ma’am, I appreciate it.” I bowed my head to show all was forgiven.  “Fraulein has also given up her name to show her loyalty to me. You will call her Luna unless in another form where she will be Fraulein.” Silas added.  “You are certainly lucky
