Chapter 30 A Wolf's Greatest Weakness

Buck smirked. “I have my answer.” “Let’s hear it!” Daren stated, a little impatient. “I want to spar with the Alpha!” The elite and advanced classes cheer as the back door to the pack house opens. “Finally! Someone gets the right answer on the first try!” I look back as my mate walks over. “You are brave though, asking for me after you touched what is mine.” She hands a case to Violet who holds it up as Samantha opens it. She carefully removes her ribbon and lays it inside. She then takes her gloves off and replaces them with a pair of longer gloves that reach halfway up her forearm and secures them with a strap. She walked to the center of the ring. “Now, because I am in a good mood, everyone pay attention! Maybe I can teach more than one wolf today!” She walked over to Buck and spoke in a lowered voice that we couldn&rsqu

Chapter 31 Oasis

We made our way outside and Samantha led us to the Northern side of the territory. She looked at me and smiled. “Want to try shifting in your uniform again?” I swallowed and nodded, at first it was difficult to do so as I had to time the expansion of my body with the natural elasticity of the deer hide, once the hide stretched to almost bursting, I had to start imagining the hide as a sort of second skin which would meld into me and grow with me. At first it felt really weird but after doing it a few times I got it down. Still, sometimes I miss judge it and end up shredding my uniform. As many times as I do it correctly in practice, every time I try in front of anyone I fudge it up. I feel my heart beat speed up as Samantha stood there waiting for me. “Would it help if I turned around?” She offered. When I didn’t answer she smiled and turned around anyway. She slipped on the backpack and fastened it securely aro

Chapter 32 The Demon of SilverFang

It wasn’t long after the movie started that I felt my mate lay her head on my shoulder. Beta Violet sat on the couch with us as Daren and Lily took the loveseat. Greg and Jess sat on the floor with their daughter as she and her friends started singing about building snowmen. By the time they started to let it go I realized my love was sound asleep. It seemed that Violet was close behind her as her head started to nod up and down. I was about to suggest for her to go to bed when suddenly my mate shot awake, her eyes wide. “Everyone. Get the pups to the shelter.” She said in a hushed voice, as to not scare the little ones. Daren looked at her. “What do you mean?” She stood and turned to us again. “I just got a mind link from the east border. Rogues in the territory. I’m evacuating the packhouse. Get the pups to safety.” Violet and Jess jumped up, Greg gra

Chapter 33 The Long Night

I gripped my mate, fear washed over me. “Is...is he?” I couldn’t even finish the sentence as I sobbed. Even though me and Jake didn’t get along well growing up he was still my brother and I loved him. Samantha rubbed my back. “The doctors have him, they are doing the best they can.” She stifled a sob also, “It turns out Vi is his mate, damn Goddess and her curveballs.” She leaned back and looked me in the eyes. “But this is great news! Their mate bond will help his healing.” She wiped the tears from my face. “Daren is getting Lily and letting her know, I’m going to go and call your parents. You want to wait down here?” I nodded. I need to be here in case something happens. Samantha smiled at me. “It's going to be okay, Sweetie.” She brought my forehead to hers and I could feel her love for me flood our bond. “I’ll be back soon, I promise.&rd

Chapter 34 The Second Son

I stood in the hallway and called my Dad; my Mom’s phone was going right to voicemail, and they were too far away for me to send them a link. He picked up on the first ring and I told him that Jake was awake. I then called Chris and told him the same. I felt such relief as a nurse went in to check on him and heard him talking and answering basic questions. Samantha came hurrying down the hall, she had a duffel bag on her arm. “The nurse sent me a link, he’s awake?” I nodded and leaned on her shoulder and let her hair fall over my nose, I pulled her into me just needing to hold her again. I felt her nuzzle into my neck, “You okay?” She whispered and finally I nodded. The nurse quietly left the room and smiled as us as she walked past. “The Doctor will be here soon.” She said before handing my mate a small vial of medicine. “The beta refused again, Alpha.” Samantha looked at the conte

Chapter 35 Medicine

We started to walk towards the hospital, Samantha stopped and turned to me and my brother. “Christopher, could you do me a huge favor?” I looked at her quizzically as Chris answered. “Uh, okay?” “Could you mind link your parents and ask to leave your brother’s room for a few minutes?” He looked shocked but nodded. After his eyes refocused, he looked at her. “Okay, done. Can I ask why?” Samantha growled. “Violet refused her medication again...” She turned and walked past my parents who were leaving the hospital, slightly confused. My eyes go wide as I hurry behind her; Chris following me. She marches to the end of the hallway, and I can feel her anger start to increase. As we reached the end of the hall, she slammed the door open. “What the hell!!!” She yelled. I cautiously looked in

Chapter 36 Dreams 4

I’m in a large office, I have all my papers around me and I’m coloring a picture. The large man is by the big desk also looking at his papers. I took him some crayons, but he insisted on using his black ink pens. How boring. After a minute he stands and looks at me. “Sammy, Daddy has a meeting. Do you want to stay or go play?” I close my eyes. “I’ll stay with Daddy!” I grab my crayons and paper and go under his desk like I always do. After a minute he goes to the door and opens it. “Eric! Matthew! Come in, sit down.” I look carefully from under the desk and look at the two pairs of shoes, one black and the other brown. Darn, no strings. There are two of them also...but I know my dad can take them both if he needs to: nobody can beat my dad. My dad sits at his desk. “So, gentlemen, what do I owe the pleasure?” “As you know, the rogue problem is gettin

Chapter 37 Spring and Autumn

Two days later the trackers finally called back in. They tracked the rogues west into Tennessee before they doubled back and ended up near Asheville. They were forced to stop and considering the circumstances Samantha told them to return. They found a smaller group of them and over a dozen hostages. Samantha ordered them to be returned to the pack. We will be expecting them soon.   Elder Alan was emailing the Council of Thirteen to alert them of what happened. He was not expecting much he told me, as the Council prefers to let the individual packs settle attacks from rogues and other werewolves. They normally only intervene when it involves vampires or witches or something that concerns the royal family.   Samantha feels a lot better now, and the doctor says I can resume my silver regimen tomorrow. He also was extremely irate that we shared a kiss that caused me to pass out. Again, he made us both swear to come in for more bloodwork and test

Chapter 38 Nightmares 1

“Samantha! Samantha!” I shake my mate, before grabbing my phone and dialing the first name in my list. “Jess! Jess!!! Something’s wrong with Samantha!!!” “What’s wrong?” She asked worriedly. “Where are you?” “Um...in her old room! Jessica!!! I can’t get her to wake up!” “I’m on the way Benjamin! Is she breathing???” I roll her over and check, “Yes she is!” “Okay, stay calm. I’m almost there.” She answered. “The doctor is on the way too. What happened?” She appeared in the doorway and hurried over to my mate. “It looks like she fainted, what happened?” I shake my head. “We were just talking! I don’t know! We were talking about her doll when she asked me.... why her doll used to smell like me??? Then s

Chapter 39 The Demon's Job

Sometime later we are all gathered in Samantha’s office; my parents, Chris and Laura are also here, we are going to be transferring Jake into our pack. This time, Violet is showing me exactly what files are needed: paperwork and basic background checks. She tells me that if we are bringing in someone from a pack we don’t usually deal with the process takes longer... we need to know exactly what the other pack is like to be sure we are not bringing in a mole. There are other safeguards in place and that involves a strict interview with Samantha, Violet, and the petitioning wolf. I couldn’t help but notice that Samantha kept the desk between her and Jake the entire time, and she had to replace her gloves when she went to shake his hand. I sighed, I hope she doesn’t have to wear them a lot... I hate that she has to hide that part of her from others. She once offered to stop wearing the polish for a while, but I insisted she keep it on; it&rs
