CHAPTER 21: DOUBT IS LIKE A LEAK IN A LIFEBOAT

Pete was woken up by a cool breeze in his bedroom. Jess was fast asleep beside him and he smiled at her sleeping form. She was not wearing anything and her naked body was clearly outlined by the light bed sheet. Pete reached out to touch her but he was frozen by a sharp pain in his wound. He looked down to his side, and discovered that the wound was bleeding and the dressing had been stained. Pete lay back on the bed and tried not to move. He didn't want to wake up Jess, although he knew he needed to change the dressing and warm up the cold room. Pete thought back to the week that had passed with satisfaction. He had managed to convince Jess to go away for a few days so that he could carry out his revenge mission. Ben had found the man who had shot Pete, and Pete wanted his revenge. However, Pete knew that Jess would not allow him out of her sight. After she had left, he had paid the nurse for the re

Greenstead estate. Where living is an experience. This was the big sign that welcomed visitors and residents into the exclusive high end estate in a serene part of the suburbs. The estate was reputed to be the cream of real estate, where the kings or wealthiest people co-existed away from the ordinary folk. Each resident cherished Greenstead, as each could reign as a king in his kingdom, while being privileged to live next door to other kings.  The Garcia mansion stood at the center of this estate. The drive to the house was often described as scenic, while the estate was being lauded for its picturesque and inspiring features that created order and elegance. The area was filled with beautiful homes with unique landscaping features. Each neighbour also unconsciously tried to outdo the other with the latest designs and finishes. The Garcias’ house shared this same enthusiasm for property development. The grand property that hosted the Garcia

CHAPTER 23 : MISSING IN ACTION

Pete was in the IT office at NextGen doing some maintenance work. He had missed many work sessions since his shooting incident and he wanted to make sure that he did not give anyone a reason to notice his absence. He had driven to work with Jess this morning, as had become custom almost every day. They had also gotten into the habit of being together daily. He often stayed over at her house after work because he drove her home almost daily. The two spend weekends at the penthouse where they could get away from the hustle and bustle of work. It had felt like a month of honeymoon with the two love birds getting closer and closer. Pete’s businesses had also been going well and he had been making alot of money. He had been contemplating closing down one type of business so that he could concentrate his income on those with better outcomes. He still intended to keep the tour companies and barber shops as a cover to move money for his most active busi

CHAPTER 24: TROUBLE IN PARADISE

In a secluded part of town, Pete had been having one of the worst days of his life. After being driven away from the office, they had been hijacked by yet another group of men. They had been driven to a warehouse where he had witnessed four of his men being brutally murdered. The murderers seemed to think that Ben and Pete were in custody of large sums of foreign and local currency. They also wanted to know the intricate details of the operation and to identify the key members behind the operation. They had been tortured until he was just barely alive while Pete was bruised up pretty badly as well. Fortunately for them, their men had destroyed any evidence that could have exposed the operation.  Something had changed the brutal environment suddenly and it worried Ben and Pete to the core. The leader of the men who were torturing him had received a phone call that saw him step out of the room. He had returned with a different disposition and given

CHAPTER 25: BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE

It was shortly after midnight and a girl in red lingerie was trying to tiptoe out of William's hotel room. She had just made it to the door when he coughed loudly. She turned to him and sighed with disappointment when she saw that he was wide awake.“Candy, get me some whisky,” he said pointing to the mini bar. She poured him a drink, as she was told and then she picked up her dress. “I’m going to get going now,” she said heading to the bathroom. “It’s still too early,” William said with a drunken slur. He got out of the bed and pulled the girl towards the bed. He had already made love to her four times and she was feeling sore. She really wanted to go home and rest but it was as though he was possessed by arousal. “I want to go home. Let me go,” she said softly.  “I thought you

CHAPTER 26: SWEETER THAN THE SWEETEST HONEY

Everyone was experiencing a slow day at NextGen. It was one of those days where nothing urgent was happening, and most employees in the PR department were just passing time until the end of day. Jess had spent a good part of the morning filling in some paperwork for her supervisor. Pam had been more busy because Steve had called in sick and she had to cover his work load. Lunch hour gave them both a chance to catch up since they did not have much time to chat in the morning. Jess noticed that Pam seemed to have developed some sort of negative attitude towards her, and the lunch had not been as pleasant as Jess had anticipated. The afternoon was much easier for both Pam and Jess so they both worked on the company’s social media platforms. Jess also updated William’s platforms when she had completed her work load. They also chatted with William and agreed to meet and talk in his office after work. It was soon 3pm and the office

CHAPTER 27: JESS AND WILLIAM

It had been two weeks since Jess had officially moved into the penthouse. Jess had enjoyed the first few days as it had been the weekend. They had spent all day indoors taking care of each other and loving each other. The honeymoon phase had not lasted for long because Pete had thrown himself into his work right after he was strong enough to drive around without assistance. He had told Jess that he had to work overtime so that the organization could be stabilized. Jess was at home at the penthouse and she was a bit bored. It was the third night in a row that Pete had stayed out due to work complications. She was home alone bored as she scrolled through her social media pages. Something caught her attention when she saw some of her old college friends post a video as they danced at Spree. She posted a comment expressing her envy and some of her friends asked her to join them. Jess brushed them off for a minute, and then she looked back over the last fe

CHAPTER 28: JESS AND PETE

Warning: explicit content coming up  Jess got tired of sitting home alone and decided that she would be more proactive about her relationship. Pete would now be her main priority. She tried calling Pete again but he could not be reached. She had tried to reach him all morning without any success and she started feeling worried. Ben was not reachable either. Jess decided to try and find Pete because she wasn’t going to wait as long as she had the last time. She took a taxi to Pete’s other house, hoping to see him there. His car was not parked upfront and there was no sign of a party as usual. She let herself in as there was no one at the entrance and then she started wandering around. The party room had loud music on but there was no one inside. Jess was walking towards Pete’s office when she met two men dragging a man whose head had been covered with a hood. The men were startled by Jess and one pulled out a gun and point

CHAPTER 29: ALL ROSES HAVE THORNS

Pete and Jess spent the rest of Sunday morning in the penthouse. Pete had ordered brunch so they ate as they cuddled on the sofa. Jess also set up her new phone and she was able to recover most of her data. She returned calls from a few of her friends who she had met at the club and then she called her father. It wasn't until Pete left to attend to other matters that Jess finally responded to William’s call. “Why have you been avoiding me?” he asked when she picked up his call. “My phone broke and I’ve been dealing with some stuff before I could replace it,” she said honestly.“I want to see you,” he said.“That’s not a good idea,” she said.“

CHAPTER 30: BE YOUR OWN HERO

Pete drove to his computer centre after he left his mother's house. He had been there recently when he discovered that an intruder had gained access to his facility. The visit puzzled him because the intruder had not touched or stolen anything. He had also been keen to ensure that none of Pete’s cameras were able to make out his face. The man had also left in a very short time and his presence could have been established by anyone other than the security cameras. As usual, Pete parked far away from the house and changed into simple clothes so that he could blend well into the neighborhood. While he was changing, he got a message from Jess saying that she would stay at the apartment. He made a quick call to her, and after confirming that she felt better, they agreed to meet the next morning. This would give him the opportunity to work all night if necessary. He drove his old car there and got down to work. After a few hours of upgrades on the sys
