10-Pills

AVA   I've been finding it quite difficult to sleep at night especially this night. I guess my irregular sleep routine was gradually having an effect on me.    Walking into the kitchen, I decided to make coffee and take it with the few cookies Isabelle left in a plate near the sink, when I saw a black bag in the sink.   I can't remember putting any black bag in the sink, besides no bag was used during my baking session earlier today.   I walked to the sink and tore the bag open to reveal packs of different kinds of contraceptives.   My breath became heavy and my mind hazy. Whoever put it there must be aware of the reasons behind my broken marriage, this being one.    The night my marriage with Ryan began to crumple.   FLASHBACK THREE YEARS

11-Secrets

AVA I woke up this morning with a malicious headache.  You know the type that makes you feel as though you've been hit on the head and when you try to move your head, the pain is transferred to the other side of your head, making you shut your eyes and hold your head. Slowly, I searched for the aspirin in the first aid kit that I keep in one of the cupboards in the kitchen. After I had taken the medicine, I began making breakfast. I decided on eggs for Melissa and pancakes for Helena and I. Thinking of Helena, I really needed to keep my cool if she asks me about Melissa. "Good morning, Ava" Helena greets me, moving towards the kitchen. "How was your night?" I asked her, smiling. "Better than ever, your bed was soft and comfy." She said, yawing Smiling at her, I nod my head and faced the food

12-Shopping

AVA "How do I look in this?" Helena asked me for thehundredth time.  I never knew shopping with her would be so much fun. I mean how hard is it to just pick one wedding dress, just one and get the hell out of here.  My eyes are hurting terribly from the constant white dresses she puts on for me to check out.  Right now, I can't even tell which of the whites is more beautiful or worse and my head aches from looking at one thing for three hours seated at one place. "It's beautiful" I admire her, the dress is flare and wide like the type in one of those animated movies Melissa tries to imitate. She sighed "I don't really like it, it's kind of heavy." Here we go again. "Of course it is, that's why it's a wedding gown," I told her, rolling my eyes. She's such a drama queen. "It r

13-Meeting Luke

AVA Should I tell her?  "Ava!!!" I heard Helena yell, startling me as the phone slipped out of my hand but I was quick enough to catch it.  "Ye-ye-yes," I stuttered, raising my head to look at her. She was looking at me with so much concern. "I've called you so many times, what were you thinking? "  "Nothing really," I said, looking around at anything but her. "Wow, you look beautiful in that," I said, trying to change the subject. "Of course, I look beautiful in anything especially when you're not here," she said, rolling her eyes  "Are you OK?, you look lost, besides I'm not even putting on a wedding dress,"  I immediately looked at her and noticed that she really wasn't putting on a wedding dress.  "I'm fine, what I actually meant was that you'

14-Past

AVA And soon, I came face to face with the stranger who had saved my life and that of Melissa three years ago. He was still stunned on seeing me and stopped in his track.  "You know Luke? " Noah asked, bringing me out of my train of thoughts I nodded my head and cleaned the tear on my face as I smiled at Luke.  He still looked the same just a little more older than he had been the first time I saw him.  The tattoos on his body were still visible around his neck as the long sleeved shirt he was putting on failed to completely cover it up.  He was still well built and I just noticed the striking resemblance between him and Noah.  He looked few years older than Noah, his blue eyes were beautifully defined with thick brows. His stature was just a times two of how

15-Sweets

AVA It was Sunday morning. I and Melissa were alone at home and I think we are the only two in neighbourhood that weren't in church. Standing up from the bed, I moved to the bathroom. I needed to take my bath before Melissa wakes up.  There were many things to do around the house.  I had to get the laundry done, the bathroom floors scrubbed, and also teach Melissa some new shapes, it's been long since when last we did that.  The kitchen was pretty clean and so were the utensils, thanks to Isabelle. After I was done taking my bath, I threw on a blue tank top over a black shot. Holding up my hair in a messy bun, I walked out of the bedroom carefully so as to not disturb Melissa even though she was quite a heavy sleeper. She'd lay on the bed like a log of wood and may make no move if the house were to be o

16-But a Lady

AVA I have not spent time with Melissa since on Sunday and it's Thursday already..  I always leave before she's up in the morning and return when she's asleep.  My poor baby maybe thinking I'm running away from her and here I am facing yet another challenge in my company. "Listen to me Mr-the-CEO-is-just-but-a-lady, it will take me nothing to give you the boot if you fail to realize that you work for me and under me." I declared. I was angry at the fact that one of my employees has been slacking in his duties and going round the office discussing with other employees about how inexperienced I was in handling the company and how much I'm being affected by my gender. If one of them can start up a discussion like that, what will happen when they form a group and possibly turn rebel. I had Tracy schedule a meeting with the board the

17-Familiar

AVA   Breathing a sigh, I spoke "There's something you really need to know."   "It better be good." Helena hissed, if looks could kill, I'd be six feet beneath right now.   I cleared my throat and sat upright in my chair, I honestly want to tell her the truth, I feel like I'm making a mountain out of a molehill.   I breathed a sigh and looked at her " Helena, I don't think I'll be free on that day." I stated as calmly as I could.    She huffed and shook her head, "On that day, you say? " and I nodded my head in approval.   Chuckling humorlessly, "You don't even know the day." she spat, making me realize that she hasn't even told me the day yet.    Just when I thought she was done talking, she began lashing out ruthlessly at me.    "What has come over you, Ava?, each time I mention something about my fia

18-Hypnosis

AVA "Luke, I'm sure she's not the one you saw. " I told him while we were seated on the king sized bed in the guest room.  The room had just a very simple yet sophisticated decoration with different paintings hanging on the wall, how come I've never noticed these things before now. I turned my attention back to Luke and he was still in a daze. He has been moody since he confronted Isabelle, I wish I knew what was going on in his mind.  I had wanted to ask him the reasons why he thought it was Isabelle he had seen at the store but felt it was better not to ask. "I don't trust that girl! " he spat, his words were sudden and made me jump in my position on the bed as this was the first time he had spoken since we entered the room a few minutes ago.  I have never seen Luke act this way around anybody or even talk about anybody t

19-Near Death

AVA   I was about to say a few prayers because it could be the last time I ever opened my eyes, when I felt how calm the car had suddenly become.   On instinct, I opened one of my eyes to observe my environment. The first thing that caught my attention was how close we were to the tree but still didn't collide with it.    Gradually inhaling and exhaling, I tried to control my breath. I turned slowly to face Helena whose head was resting on the wheel with one of her hands above her head on the wheel.    "Helena, I whispered, she turned her face to look at me, and gave me a sad smile before sitting up in her seat and resting her back on it.    The wheel was wet and I immediately looked at her face to see that tears were streaming down freely from her eyes.   That was when I noticed she had already unfastened her seat belt. I looked at the back se
