Chapter 51

Rhae, Aynyra, Valor and Aerys, strode through the dense forest, trying to step as quietly as possible while they manoeuvred through the monster territory. Rhae turned to check on the group and ensure they followed behind. Aynyra gave her a sly smile, before diverting her attention back to the ground. Rhae heard it before she saw it, an arrow whizzed past her head and went straight into Aerys' gut. Aerys groaned, collapsing to his knees. Aynyra gasped and grabbed Aerys, cradling him in her arms. Aynyra placed her hands on Aerys, pushing through her magic and forcing it into Aerys' body. Once the magic was in his body, she snapped the arrow and pulled it out, watching as her magic began stitching the hole back together. Rhae searched the trees, looking for any signs of a threat. She blinked, and then Fae warriors appeared in front of her, surrounding them with drawn bows and arrows. The Fae bared their canines at them, in a warning. The group froze, bu

Chapter 52

Rhae stood beside Aynyra on the platform from the previous day, the Queen sitting on her throne in front of them. The room was full, with Fae civilians sitting around the room, staring at them. Rhae turned to her right, to see Valor and Aerys sitting down on the stands, surrounded by guards holding spears. The Queen stood, causing the crowd to mimic her. "Rhaenyx Maltalor, Aynyra Talaelex, you will participate in a test for me. If you pass all three tests, then we will provide aid in exchange for a favour. You will owe me once we have removed your threat. The first test is control." Her voice drifted as the world around Rhae turned dark, hiding the Fae circling her. She seemed to be standing in a black room across from Aynyra, fire on the ground their only source of light. The Queen's voice echoed over them, "Rhaenyx, you must control the fire around Aynyra and stop it from burning her. Aynyra, you must defend Rhaenyx from arrows that can be fired from any direction.

Chapter 53

Rhae slowly opened her eyes, finding Aynyra lying beside her, facing away. Rhae smiled, admiring Aynyra's long chocolate brown hair. She reached out and gently ran her fingers through Aynyra's hair, smiling to herself. She was giddy from the night they shared, completely ignorant of what challenges she would face later that day. The door opened suddenly, and Rhae turned to see her Fae helper standing in the door crossing her arms. The woman bared her canines before walking over to the curtains and slinging them open."Wake up," the woman growled, ripping the blankets off of Rhae and Aynyra.Aynyra sat up, holding one arm over her chest and using the other to rub her sleepy eyes."You should be focusing on the tests and the fate of your kingdoms rather than your relationship. Girl, leave. Your helper is waiting for you," the woman bared her teeth again before walking into the wardrobe in Rhae's room. She emerged with a long black dress, that h

Chapter 54

Rhae sat around the table, eating her breakfast. Nobody else had emerged from their rooms yet, probably to avoid talking about what happened yesterday. When the door opened to Aerys' room, she stood and turned to him, unsure of what to say."I'm sorry about what you had to go through yesterday, and about them. It'll just take a little bit to get over. You don't exactly have a great past. I know they understand you were forced, I think they are just grieving," Aerys rubbed his palms."Thank you, Aerys. I'm sorry you had to witness all that," Rhae said, averting her eyes. She stood there in a moment of silence, before starting again, "Listen, Aerys. I'm going in to the city today, I need to get out of here and take a walk. You have to stay here with Valor and Aynyra. I don't trust any of you for stealth in a new city. I'll be back soon, and cover for me.""Wait, you're going out? How are you even getting down there?" Aerys quizzed her.Rhae smi

Chapter 55

Rhae stood from the table to a knock on the door. Rhaenyx, Aynyra, Valor and Aerys had been sitting around in silence, waiting to hear if they were allowed to participate in the final test. Dread had been washing over Rhae, knowing that she might have condemned her Kingdom and it's people to cruelty and death. The knock on the door would tell her the fate of her Kingdom. She dusted off her skirts and walked over to the door, she creased her brows in worry and went to bite her lip. Rhae took a deep breath, relaxed her face and opened the door to see Ambrose leaning against the door frame.Ambrose had one arm up to lean on, the other placed on his hip. Rhae could see the strong muscles through the creases in his shirt. His long hair was tied back, strands falling over his face. His pointy ears poked out through his black hair. He gave her sly grin, showing off his canines. He stood up off the door and strode into the room, "Greetings, humans."Ambrose marche

Chapter 56

Rhae rubbed her eyes as she woke. She stretched out over the covers, feeling the soft silky covers of the Fae. A voice rumbled from the corner of the room, suddenly causing her to sit up, "Morning, sweetheart." Ambrose was sitting in the plush armchair in the corner of her room, staring at her with a half smile. Rhae rubbed her head, the memories of the day before flooding her. After the test, Ambrose brought her back to her chambers and lay her on the bed. He lay next to her, running his fingers through her hair until she drifted off into a dreamless sleep. Rhae bit her lip and asked him, "Did we pass?"Ambrose stood chuckling, "You did. But understand that the tests are not there for you to pass, they are there to test your dedication to your cause." Ambrose slowly strolled over to her and grabbed the bottom corner pole of her bed that held up the canopy. "You've passed the tests, but you need to look at what the tests taught you and w

Chapter 57

Rhae walked down the city streets with Ambrose, watching as the bustling Fae made their way through the city. It was yesterday that he had thrown her over a waterfall to train her. He was a crazy man, but his methods were effective. She had learned how to transform. They had practised for hours yesterday, only pausing to eat the Akihyra fruit to regain her energy. He had taught her control over her Fae form, and after practising over and over again, she could now change at will and hold the form for up to an hour before she needed to rest again. Her magic was much stronger now, pulsing through her veins. She could feel it closer to her skin. By the end of their practice yesterday, she was able to change in seconds, only having to focus for a moment before she could pull it to the surface. Though her progress was huge, Ambrose begged to differ. He believed that she should be able to change before he could finish blinking, with no thought or hesitation being need

Chapter 58

Ambrose stood across from Rhae holding his arms up in front of his chest, ready to grab any attack from Rhae. She stood in her Fae form, taking a deep breath to centre her magic for their training session. "Once again, Rhae, we are practising control. You are going to light that pile of logs on fire and keep it burning, without burning the logs underneath it. Then, I'm going to attack you and you need to stop me without letting the fire go out," he commanded. Rhae paused and creased her brows, "How am I supposed to stop you?" Ambrose chuckled, "Figure it out, now start the fire." Rhae turned to the fire and stared, within seconds it was ablaze, burning brightly without even charring the logs. Her practice over the last few days had paid off, she was now able to control her fire well. Her practice now was controlling two sources at once, manipulating them in different ways. As Ambrose leapt to attack her, Rhae took inspiration from Aynyra and b

Chapter 59

Rhae has just returned from her training with Ambrose an hour earlier. After she arrived back at her chambers, she lay down on her bed with one of the books provided in her room. It was a Faerie tale about the magical creatures that existed thousands of years prior before humans hunted most of them to extinction.  She was exhausted, the last few days taking a toll on her energy due to the constant training. She hadn't heard from the Queen since the last test and was worried that they would never be prepared enough for her standards.  Rhae sat up to a knock on the door and put down her book when she saw Ambrose open the door. He gave her a soft smile before walking and sitting across the bed from her. He picked up the book and looked at the cover, "Faerie tales, didn't expect you to be interested in those types of books." Rhae chuckled, "it's just something I found. We don't have many of those types back home." Ambrose grinned at her

Chapter 60

Rhae walked out of her chambers one morning, to find Aynyra, Valor and Aerys sitting at the breakfast table. All three looked at her with a glance, before returning their eyes to the meal in front of them. Rhae bit her lip and quietly stepped over to the table, sitting across from them. After a few moments of silence, Rhae began piling food onto her plate and digging in, focusing on satiating her hunger than the tension between the group. Suddenly, Aynyra stood, bursting out "What the hell is wrong with you?" she screamed.Rhae blinked and stopped chewing the food that was in her mouth. She glanced around and swallowed before looking up at Aynyra, "I'm sorry?"Aynyra growled, "you disappear for days, leaving early and coming back late, without a word to any of us, running off with that Fae male!"Rhae looked over to Valor and Aerys, who merely averted their eyes. Rhae stood, growling in anger at the accusations, "I was training! Just li
