My Humble Abode

They passed the waterfall and walked through a path in a flower garden. They then passed by a cherry garden and then a grape vineyard. Finally, they arrived at a mountainous area with small and large mountains. It was a greenland and was covered with trees and plants. Something caught Avril's attention. It was a tall stature of a man in the middle of the valley between about three mountains. The statue portrayed a broad chested man, shooting an arrow. He was shirtless and wore only a loose skirt that reached his knees. His hair was in a ponytail and he had a type of drawing on his shoulder. The drawing wasn't clear from the distance Avril and Dakar were at. “Is this place some sort of lost city?” she asked “Why do you ask?” “It doesn't look like a place that should be on a deserted island. It looks like a place that was once inhabited”&

His Story

Avril took the dress and gripped tightly onto the neckline then sat on the floor, with her back resting against the stone wall. Her emotions were a mixture of terror, delight and curiosity. Terror, in the sense that he (Dakar), was some sort of mystical creature that predicted her coming and was ready and waiting for her, to do her bad maybe. She could be some sort of sacrifice. Delight, in the sense that someone or something wanted her and waited for her. And even made her a dress. It was the first time she received kindness from someone who wasn't her mum or dad. Even though she wasn't sure if Dakar meant good for her, she was overly filled with delight that she received kindness from him. She then hummed as she remembered something. “Dakar is not the only one who's shown me kindness other than my parents. Freddie, Nana and Chidi were also kind to me” she muttered and bit her lower lip. She ag

Playing Fetch By The Beach

Lying down on a soft bed and staring into the smooth rock ceiling of what was now her room, Avril was lost in thought. Her conversation with Dakar during the afternoon was still playing through her head. So he was trapped on the island, cursed. And hoping she would break him out somehow. She had asked him how she was going to break his curse and he said he too was clueless. She had to figure that out on her own. In order words, they both were stuck on the island until she liberated them. “This is sick” she muttered and turned over on the bed, lying facedown. Soon she drifted off into the land of sleep and only work up hours later when she heard tappings on her door. She rubbed her eyes and looked out the open window, it was already dark. She stepped down from the bed and walked to the door. She opened it and stared at Dakar questioningly. “Sorry to distur

Fishing By The Stream

Avril got up early in the morning and stepped out of her room. The lights in the living room were out and the windows were shut. She went outside and inhaled the cool and fresh morning, island air. She went and sat at the foot of the huge statue and looked around. “So, I'm stuck here forever” she muttered and supported her chin with her right palm.  “Well, I suppose I could get used to it. This place is beautiful”  She got up again and took a long walk round the whole valley and even tried climbing the mountains. She also went to the waterfall and watched beautiful little birds, fluttering around and chirping.  After about two hours of her morning stroll, she went back to the house and was surprised to see breakfast. “Oh my! I thought you really disappeared, Avril” Dakar exclaimed immediately he saw her. He was placi

Let's Go Hunting

Chapter 15   A few seconds after Avril woke up, she heard footsteps that definitely belonged to Dakar, coming towards her door.    “What now?” she groaned and tossed in bed, not wanting to get out anymore. She hoped he was just walking around but her hope was dashed when she heard him knock. At first, she refused to answer and feigned sleep. But he kept knocking loudly and she reluctantly pronounced a yes. He had sharp hearing and he heard her. He pushed the door open and walked in holding one of Avril's clay trays.   “Morning! It's a bright day!” he mused and stood beside Avril's bed. She peeked at him with one eye and saw him holding the tray. She opened her eyes fully and raised a brow questioningly.   “Your breakfast, ma'am” he announced and lowered the tray so she could see the contents. It contained two plates covered with two other plates and a clay mug of Avril's invention.

An Accident In The Forest

They walked on in silence, except for Avril's frequent groan and winces whenever she tripped over a stick or a itchy leaves touched her skin. Tired of the unpleasant sounds, Dakar stood on all fours and made Avril mount his back. She carried the basket of arrows and that of the bread and water. Dakar wouldn't give her the bow and had it in his mouth. “Why are you too silent today?” she asked after about an hour journey “Thinking about stuff” he dimly replied“What stuff?”“Stuff I shouldn't be sharing with you” “Hmm. That's strange. You usually share everything with me”“Sorry for surprising you”  Ten minutes passed and Avril spoke up again “Won't you tell me what's wrong with you? I'm not used to seeing you quiet like this?” “Nothing's wrong. I said I was just thinking abo

Finally Awake

Dakar knew exactly what had happened to her. She had received too much of his wolf vibes into her totally human body and her system couldn't cope. But what he didn't know was if it was going to wear off soon or won't wear off at all. What if it kills her, he asked himself. He took just two steps and was already by her side. Crouching down, he looked over her and carried her up. She seemed lighter than her normal self and his heart raced. Leaving his bow, arrows and the other baskets, he began to run back towards the mountain house. He would have ran faster on all fours but couldn't because she would fall off.As he ran, he got angrier with himself. He kept asking himself questions. Why couldn't he control himself? She was angry because he was hiding something and she had every right to.Why did he let Dojo out? He cared about Avril so much and didn't want to think about what could happen to her. He tried as much as he could to surpress the guilt an

You're Special To Me

Two days later, Avril had caught a fever and was bedridden once again. Dakar kept running around the island, getting herbs with medicinal properties and brewing them up for her to drink. They were very bitter and he had to drop a plate of roast chicken by the bowl of medicine before Avril would agree to drink it all.  “This is no use. The chicken tastes bitter’’ she would complain while eating it. “Should I stop giving you chicken then? Because my chickens are reducing everyday and they're not laying eggs yet, Avril” he would say with gritted teeth. “No. Don't stop. Don't worry, they'll start laying eggs again. I even wish I could eat some omelette. It's been awhile”  “When you are done eating, you should rest a bit. Because I'll be back in an hour to dress your wound”  Dressing her wound was World War III. The Reason For The Hunting Trip

“What is it?” Dakar snapped. Avril's eyes held horror in them and he looked behind him immediately but didn't see anything, not like he was expecting to. “Avril, are you okay?” he asked again.“It's your...your face. It's different” she stuttered.“Different? What do you mean by different?” “Uhm... Your eyes...er—they look a bit weird. Also your snout has turned shorter and your whole face is shrinking” she said. Dakar touched his face with his right paw. “Your paws are also getting slimmer and longer than before. Something's happening to you, Dakar. Are you okay? Do you feel good?” He purred and dropped his hand.“No. I don't” he answered.Avril dropped her fork and stared at him, waiting for more explanation of what was going on with him. “Every year,

Avril's Hunting Expenditure

Avril rubbed black seed oil on her already healed wounds as she always does every morning. Dakar had said it was to get rid of scars that might want to stay. She was already dressed up for their hunting expenditure even though she didn't want to go. She wanted to go sit by the mountain and watched birds flying with bowls of fruits in front of her. But she needed to put her lessons to practice and she missed wild goat meat. “You ready?”, Dakar's voice rang.“Yes. I'm coming!”, Avril answered and stepped out of her room. Dakar was standing in front of her door, holding her bow and arrow-basket. “Do we really have to do this?”, she asked as she collected her things from him.“No, we don't. I'm not even in the mood to run or anything. But you're the one who wants to eat a different kind of meat”. She scoffed and hung her bow.“Don't try to pin this on
