CHAPTER 30: PANIC, PAIN AND EVERYTHING BAD

XANDER’S P.O.V “Yes, inspector. I hope you have some good news. Did you find my sister?” I answered the phone with hope, receiving a call from one of the inspectors in charge of my sister’s case at 6 pm on a Sunday afternoon. “Sir, it’s better that we talk in person. Would you kindly meet the rescue team and me by the lake outside your mansion?” he asked and I could tell by the sound of his voice that something was definitely wrong. “Yes, I’ll be there soon” a dreadful feeling brewed inside of me as I ended the call. Taking Cara with me, we jumped into the car and reached the lake in less than 5 minutes. My tummy turned, my heart banged against my chest and sweat escaped my pores as I parked the car among the several other emergency vehicles which was that the scene. “Cara, I can’t do this. I have a really bad feeling about this. Where is Emma? I don’t see her Cara” I panicked. “Xander, we have to go and see what they have found. We might come back to the car with a

CHAPTER 31: INTERROGATION

CARA’S P.O.V “Ms. Stone, where were you between 11 am to 4 pm on Saturday?” asked the inspector as he interrogated me. I was not nervous at all, even though this was the first time that I was in such a situation, I guess that I wasn’t nervous because I was not the only one who was here to be interrogated today. Everyone who worked and lived at the La’Vardo estate or even just had contact with Emma was here to be interrogated, including Xander even though he is the one who wanted it this way. Unfortunately, I was the first one, who was sitting on the ‘hot seat’. “I was at home inspector, at the estate” I answered his question. “Do you have any sources to confirm this?” he asked. “Yes, everyone and anyone from the mansion” I answered his question that sounded ridiculous. “Okay. How would you describe your relationship with Emma?” he asked. “Emma was my first friend at the La’Vardo mansion. She was kind, sweet and had one of the most beautiful souls and we became friends easily

CHAPTER 32: DEMONS THAT HAUNT

XANDER’S P.O.V I sat in front of my fireplace, lost in the blazing fire that burnt brightly in front of me.  ‘I should have protected her. What would my family think of me now? First I broke my relationships with them and the only person that stood by my side through it all is now dead’. I buried my face in my hands as I let out a deep long sigh of regret and pain. ‘It should have been me instead of Emma, Emma was filled with so much light and all I am filled with is darkness. The world doesn’t need me, however, the world definitely needs more good people like Emma. Why did this have to happen? Why does this keep on happening to me? It’s like I am cursed or something to never be happy for a long period of time. I couldn’t save Emma’ ‘Neither could I defend Cara today. I just stood and watch her being dragged away by the police. I feel useless, most probably because I am. I couldn’t save my marriage, I couldn’t save my sister and I couldn’t even save my Cara!!! W

CHAPTER 33: GRIFE

XANDER’S P.O.V Today was the day of the funeral. Dresses in my suit and tie I politely as possible greeted everyone that came, even though my heart was shattered into a million pieces. ‘ Yesterday was the day when I found out that Cara murdered my sister and all my revenge turned into pain. Today was the day that I had to say goodbye to my sister and part ways with her forever. I’m truly alone in this world now. I don’t have a fiancé, I don’t have Cara, I don’t have anyone.’ I stood in front of the coffin lost in my thoughts. “Xander, how are you holding up?” I heard Zack’s voice, as he placed his hand on my shoulder, offering me support. “Zack…” I wanted to say more to him but I was afraid that if I did, then I won’t be able to maintain the lump which formed in my throat. “It’s okay Xander. There is nothing that we could have done. Whoever did this will face their Karma” he uttered comforting words as he gave me a brotherly hug. I hung on tightly to the brother that

CHAPTER 34: COURT CASE

XANDER’S P.O.V My nerves were jangling with the dragons in my tummy and I hoped that my ears were the only that which was red and showed the tension and stress which I was going through as I sat in the court of which Cara’s case was being dealt with today, journalist fed of my presence but I didn’t care, all I cared about is the ruling which would be made at the end of the day. I hired the best lawyer, thinking that the stress, anxiety and tension which I am experiencing now would be avoided but I was wrong, I felt all of these emotions and guilt lead them. “Mr.La’Vardo, don’t worry everything is going to be okay. We got this,” said Attorney Mucs, the attorney who I have hired to fight Cara’s case. “I will only be at peace after the case and that too depends on the outcome of today’s case. I wish you everything of the best. Both mine and Cara’s future is in your hands today. Without her I am nothing so please fight this case tooth and nail” I said to him. “I won’t let you do

CHAPTER 35: WINNING CARA BACK!

XANDER’S P.O.V “Did she eat?” I asked Kaish. “No, I don’t even think that she touched her food, Sir. It looks the same like it did when I gave it to her” she answered. “I don’t know what to do Kaish. I really don’t know what to do. I tried talking to her but it’s like she’s deaf to my words. I did this to her. I broke her down” I sighed heavily as I buried my face into my hands, deeply regretting my stalling in getting her out sooner. “Well, what did you say when you tried talking to her?” Kaish asked, willing to help. “I apologized, I told her how silly I have been for letting her stay in jail for so long, I showed her how much I regretted it. I poured my heart out to her and told her that I would make everything better in a very convincing way, but all she did was sit there, her arms folded around her knees as she hugged herself, keeping herself close together as if she is still in danger and she has to protect herself from everyone that is around her, including me” I expl

CHAPTER 36: JAIL VISIT

LILY’S P.O.V “There is someone here to see you,” a prison warden came to take me out of my cell. There was so much of noise as I passed the other cells to get to the meeting room, there was shouting, foul language, banging, etc. This was not something I was used too and I dreaded every minute spent in here but I knew that I have to get used to it because I was sentenced to life imprisonment!!! “Eva” I got a little excited to see my sister. Taking a seat on the other side of the glass, I picked up the phone to talk to her. “Lily, what have you done?” she asked, pain clear in her voice. “Nothing Eva, I am here only for your crime” I explained. “I know Lily but why did you have to take the blame for me? You sacrificed your life for me Lily” she sounded upset, however, she seemed to be more upset with herself than with me. To be honest, she had no right to be upset with me. “That’s what sisters do Eva and you are the only family that I have. I wouldn’t have been able to

CHAPTER 37: THE MALDIVES

MIA’S P.O.V I took a sip of my strawberry daiquiri, admiring the turquoise blue water in front of me. Soaking in the sun I laid on a sunbed with nothing but my white bikini and rainbow sarong. I was done being ‘Goody two shoes’, my abandonment and time in jail, gave me a lot of time to think and go through my life, inspecting each detail of my past and all I realized was that no matter how much of good I have done, I was always let down by life. I no longer believed that ‘if you do good, good will come to you, but that doesn’t mean that I would no longer be a good person, it just means that I would no longer be always so sweet and innocent, letting everyone does something wrong to me, get away with it. If I know that someone is trying to harm me, I would no longer be afraid of it and try to move away from it…I would stand up for myself and I would most definitely fight for myself!!! On that note just as I am sure that I did not murder Emma, I am also sure that someon

XANDER’S P.O.V (Two weeks later) The past two weeks since we have returned from vacation was nothing less than amazing, I can’t actually say that the spark between us has reignited because it was never dead to being with, it was just buried under all of our problems but when we remembered it and decided to pull it out once again it has shown brighter than ever before, even brighter than the brightest star in the darkest night. And that’s the love that Cara and I shared. “Xander?” I heard Cara calling, disturbing my thoughts but I didn’t mind at all anything was better than her silence. “Yes, love?” I yelled back from study. “What would you like for dinner?” I heard her voice getting louder telling me that she is getting closer. “Anything that you want my love” I answered, the door of the study opened and her head popped in. “No babe, think about it and tell me, I feel of cooking today,” she said. “Come here” I called her and she came, sitting on my lap she pl

CHAPTER 39: THE GIFT

XANDER’S P.O.V “Xander, this package just arrived for you” Cara came to me after my Monday morning meeting, holding a box wrapped in brown paper and decorated with a red ribbon forming a bow, in her hands. “That’s interesting. I was not expecting anything” I said, taking the gift from her and inspecting it. On the side, I spotted a little card, Cara and I read it together… ‘Dear ALEXANDER LA’VARDO Welcome back from your vacation.
