Chapter 40

I reeled in shock at his words. I couldn't believe that Keith, Dr. Keith Jenkins loved me. My mind started swirling with the realization and I tried to think back to all my interactions with Keith. Could I have missed the signs or misinterpreted his feelings for a harmless crush? Had I been blind all along?I opened my mouth to apologize but he shook his head, his hand gripping mine a little tighter before letting go. "Please don't. I knew it was wrong. It's against my ethics develop any feelings for my clients other than empathy. But heart never plays by the rules. Ironic as it is, I can't cure myself of this feeling I have for you. Love doesn't go away when you want it to.""Keith..." My word was barely above a whisper. I was still trying to grasp the meaning of his words. I saw him take a deep breath and open his mouth."Evelyn White, I... I lov-""No." I cut him off in the middle. Shaking my head to get rid of the faint throbbing in

Chapter 41

"I think I just found a new hobby." I mumbled against Adrian's lips, running my hands through his hair and for the nth time, wondering what product he used in it.He quirked an eyebrow and pecked my lips once more before reluctantly pulling away a little to take a look at me. "Really? I don't sound too arrogant now to guess it involves me, do I?" He gave me his oh-so-familiar smirks that had me rolling my eyes at him."You always sound arrogant, you smirk-devil." I scoffed before leaning forward to kiss him once more, catching him by surprise. It was the first time I was kissing him without any inhibitions and damn if it didn't feel like I was flying above the clouds in my own pair of wings which didn't even need to be flapped. "So my new favorite hobby," I whispered against his lips and slowly trailed mine to his left ear, "is kissing you."In reply, he tightened his hold on my waist and pulled me closer than before-  if that was even po

Chapter 42

"Remind us to be on our incognito outfits the next time we go on a date at some diner. It was pretty intense this time." I commented lightly as I turned on the cooler in his car.Adrian was silent for a while, but as he spoke, the words flew like razors. "Will there be a next time though?" He asked coldly.I blinked in shock at his complete turn of mood. "What the hell are you talking about, Adrian? You don't want there to be a next time?" I asked, fearing a little that he'd answer in an affirmative. He clenched his jaw in response. "It's not about me, Eve. It's about you. I think you don't want there to be a next time given that we're just friends." He mocked the last two words and I couldn't help the irritation building inside me.

Chapter 43

“This place feels weirdly familiar.” I commented as I observed the large mansion in front of us.We were currently standing in front of Adrian’s home, in Hillcrest Avenue, New Jersey. It was a beautiful place, one that looked like a castle the Disney Princesses lived in with their happily ever after. It was two storeyed and built in such a way that made it look like a cottage, just much larger. The house radiated elegance despite its modest and simple exterior. There was a cherry blossom tree in the left corner in front of the house with lovely pink little flowers scattered all over. For a moment I felt like I’d suddenly walked into a magical world.“As it should. You did live here.” Adrian pointed out, effectively pulling me out of my thoughts before I mentally wrote poems about his home. I blinked in surprise as his words registered in my mind. I’d completely forgotten about that fact. I looked around and saw that th

Chapter 44

“See what I told you about my parents loving you more than me?” Adrian remarked sourly as he sat himself beside me on the couch. I was about to offer my sympathies to his bruised ego when something on his pants caught my attention. A small hand tugged his own that was resting on his knee and I followed Adrian’s gaze to see a boy of around five leaning holding his arms out to Adrian. The boy had the same shade of copper brown hair as Brandon and with the same shade of brown eyes as Jade’s looking at me curiously, there was no doubt that this was Adrian’s nephew. He looked so adorable in his dress shirt and pants that I could imagine him being a heartbreaker as he grows up. Good looks must run in their genes instead of blood. The boy let out a small squeal as Adrian leaned down and lifted him up, settling him on his lap. I watched in fascination and the arrogant devil completely disappeared behind the caring uncle mode Adrian was currently sporting. The b

Chapter 45

From the moment I made the decision to meet his parents, I'd let myself imagine what Adrian's room would look like. There were a few things that had come to my mind and I was curious to find out if my mental picture of his room matched with the reality. His room wasn't what I imagined it to be like. Granted, it did look like a typical teenage boy's room with soccer trophies and The Beatles' posters. But at the same time, it looked more than just that. The first thing I noticed upon entering were the walls, which were blue in color, the kind of blue that immediately reminded me of Adrian’s eyes. The walls were covered with countless photo frames and some paintings. I could feel Adrian watching me carefully as I walked inside to take a closer look at the walls. It was as if he expected me to faint then and there. I didn't realize what the whole fuss was about until I finally had a look at the photos. The entire wall was covered with photos of his childhood,

Chapter 46

I felt his hands cradle my face softly and looked up to find him looking at me with what could only be described as unconditional love. I had only recently become able to read that expression of his since it was what my eyes would hold every time I looked at him. His breathless voice brought me out of my thoughts. “I’m sorry, I got carried away. Was it too much?” He asked, looking at me carefully, as if expecting me to slap him for being too forward. I inwardly rolled my eyes at that absurd thought. I shook my head with a small smile. “I liked it.” I watched warily as the devil’s lips slowly curled up. I was ready to smack him in the head but stopped when I saw him grin widely instead of smirking like I’d expected him to. His eyes looked livelier as his grin got broader, as if knowing exactly what was on my mind. I couldn’t help but look at him in absolute admiration wondering for the thousandth time how this incredible man could love me. It didn’t ta

Chapter 47

It was already evening by the time I woke up. My head had finally stopped throbbing and I breathed in relief, making a mental note to visit a doctor soon. I looked around to find that I was still in Adrian’s old room. I felt a soft caress on my hand and turned my head to find the man in question sitting in a chair by the bed as he ran small circles on the back of my hand.He hadn’t yet noticed that I was awake- so observed he was in his own thoughts- and I took this moment to admire the left side of his face illuminated by the soft evening light of his room. A faint stubble was beginning grow along his jaw, making me long to brush my lips over it.Silently scolding myself for entertaining those wanton thoughts, I raised my other hand- which was not currently in the devil’s hold- and ran my fingers through his hair. I mentally decided to steal all his hair products the next time I went to his penthouse. It would be a huge matter of shame for the entire

Chapter 48

We entered the living room only to be bombarded with questions by Mrs. Stone. "Oh, honey! You're finally awake! How're you feeling, my dear? Adrian, don't just stand there like a fool. Bring her to the couch."I didn't even have a chance to take out a single word from my mouth when I was carried and deposited on the couch. I glared at the idiot who just shrugged in reply, pointing at his mother. I pursed my lips at him but put on a smile on my face as I turned to his mother as well as Jade and Brandon who had now joined her, making a concerned trio."It was just a little headache. I'm fine now, really. I'm sorry for making you worried." I said, smiling at each of the member reassuringly. I felt something on my lap and looked down to see Jade's son, Luke frowning at me. Intrigued
