Part 81

/Aiden’s POV/  As we walked away from the main path and towards the garden bench, the afternoon rays hit Damon’s face. The Alpha raised his hand in the air, shielding from the bright glare from the sun. It also accentuated the lines of worry on his forehead and his mouth as he finally turned around. When I saw the Alphas at the doorstep, my face paled, more shocked at finding Zain along with Damon. Why was he here? What could he possibly want now?     Before I could ask any of those questions or ward them away, Rose entered the living room. There went my silly plan.    “Aiden?” My friend's voice yanked me out of my thoughts, almost making me squint as he sank the bench.   “Y

Part 82

"Because I realised I still have feelings for you, Rose."   I stopped breathing for a few seconds, eyes widening slightly in his direction. What was he saying? Swallowing the lump formed in my throat, I swiped my tongue over my chapped bottom lip, wincing.     “W-What are you saying, Zain?”    He took a step further, the familiar scent making my nose flare. From up close, I could see the purple hue under his eyes, cheekbones sunken, lines marring his face and a dull look overall. Like he had been having little to no sleep these days.     “I was a fool to let you go…Please forgive me, Rose.”

Part 83

/Aiden's POV/  My breath stuttered as I watched Rose from the corner of my eyes, taking a bite, my lips pressed in a thin line when I saw her audibly gulp. The omega was gripping tightly onto the edge of her chair, knuckles turning white and legs bouncing against in the spot. I instantly realised that she had been lying—about not being affected by her allergy anymore.     As someone with the worst experience with my allergies, I did not want her to go through the same pain. Why was she putting her life a risk to prove a point? I thought only to see Zain's eyes trained on her. That pretty much explained to me.     "I think I will have your share too! It is the best thing ever." I abruptly said, taking the plate away fr

Part 84

Once I managed to slip past the packhouse, my feet carried me to that lone bench in the garden. Slumping down, I let a sigh escape my chest, eyes raking around. The park was full of flowers of all shapes, sizes, and colours, so many of them, but I could not name a single one. It smelled sweet here, almost overwhelming but also clean and fresh. For a second, I could only imagine what this place must be like in the warmer months when all flowers come into bloom.    My stomach twisted, a painful reminder that I had thrown up a while ago. It was silly of me to intake that one bite of salad, my fingers almost swelling. But Zain needed to be reminded that nothing was ever going to happen between us.    I could see out of the corner of my eye a familiar figure approaching me. The Alpha looked at me expectantly, his feet clinking against the pavement before coming to a hal

Part 85

/Ria's POV/  Pack Alpha Damon is my mate. That's the only thing ringing around my ears, throat going dry. My body lurched as his growl reverberated through the walls, my beta recognising its call, almost making me want to submit.     He was a handsome man, with his eyes glinting under the light, hair long and silky, parted in the middle. The black shirt he wore stretched over his muscular arms and taut stomach, the stylish boots and jeans matching well. The Alpha's nose was pointed, his cheekbones sharp, jaw clean-cut and lips pink and round.     There was no doubt in my mind that he could easily pass off as a catalogue model.    Shaking my hea

Part 86

/Aiden's POV/   "I like you" Those three words rang in my ears, but instead of Ria, I saw my mate Rose to stand in front of me, pouring her heart out. She had uttered those exact words in her drunken state, lips glistening and cheeks flushed. Guilt swarmed my belly as I recalled the way it scared the living daylights out of me.     Those words were all it took for me to flip and start treating her like a stranger. Maybe even worse. A lump wedged in my throat at that, hands awkwardly patting at Ria's back. With my clueless behaviour, I have managed to hurt not one but two people. The weight of it fell on my shoulders, body going stiff.     My friend placed a hand on my chest, taking a step back, still not meeting my eyes. I t

Part 87

The following day I woke up with a funny feeling in my stomach and a crick in my neck. It may be because of how I slept the night before with an extra pillow instead of my usual one. Also paired that with me overthinking about Aiden's behaviour turned my night into a long one. What was with his strange behaviour anyway?      Shaking my head, I stepped out of the room, freshly showered, closing my room door behind me. Aiden walked out simultaneously, wearing a thick black jumper, a bag slung over one shoulder. He had a pair of earbuds in and was scribbling in his notepad; the Alpha didn't even look up this time, not even when I knocked my feet loudly on the ground.     I sighed and slowly turned around towards the stairs. That's when Aiden rushed to my side,

Part 88

/Aiden’s POV/   Liam kept his eyes narrowed the entire time, making me almost shift in my seat at the silence that settled over the room. Why was the beta judging me for answering the question? Shouldn’t he be content after hearing the answer? The beta abandoned his drink, fully twisting the chair in my direction.     “You are a fool!”   “Hey! That was uncalled for. I answered your question.”   He crossed his arms together, lips pressed in a straight line, the light from above falling onto the side of his face. Shaking his head, Liam opened his mouth. “You have a strange way of showing someone you like them, Alpha.”    “W-What

Part 89

As I felt his watchful eyes on me, my cheeks heated up. Why was he staring at me so intently? For a second, I thought that there might be something on the side of my face but quickly brushed that thought away. Whirling around, I turned to face him, to which the Alpha pointed towards the little arrangement, my eyes falling on a brown picnic basket.    Slumping down, I brushed at the edges of my pants, legs pressed together. We were a lot closer than I anticipated, almost feeling the heat of Aiden's body blending through the space between us.    "So," He started, and from underneath my lashes, I noticed his lips twitch.    "So," I echoed, saying nothing else. I was not quite sure what to say if I was being honest. It still felt odd, this d

Part 90

My body froze upon noticing the intruder as he was none other than Alpha Caden. He had a glimmer in his eyes, with his back straightened and staring at Aiden without any fear. The Alpha was rooted on the same spot for a few seconds now, his hands falling by his side. Caden did not even bother greeting the future Pack Alpha, his body fully angling towards me. I shifted awkwardly on my feet, my head cocking between the two of them, lips pressed in a straight line at their staring contest.      “How could you interrupt us like this?” Aiden lowly growled, his eyes turning stormy and fingers curling into fists. “Did you not learn any manners when you were young?”    A sudden silence befell us at the rage in his voice, my inner wolf tensing at his sudden shift in behaviour. From the corn
