Chapter Twenty-Nine

Rori expected to enter a quiet and Stoic kitchen, but when Becca and Darla opened the main entrance to the gallery the warm blast of a fully functioning kitchen roared from within. Rori was immediately greeted by several spectruls with enormous smiles. Darla ushered Rori into the gallery and raised herself high above the crowd, “listen well and listen good our mistress and lady has bestowed this gift upon us and has graciously agreed to do so for the rest of you, but we will not overwhelm her with ourselves.” Darla looked around the room before she continued, “the master has left us with instruction, and we will do our best to follow his wishes while making our lady Rori as comfortable and as happy as we can.” Darla looked down at Rori and noticed that the young woman was simply staring up at her with what looked like an awe-struck admiration as disembodied murmurs traveled around the kitchen. Suddenly, the sound

The growing warmth from the glass made Rori stir in her sleep and as her eyes fluttered open the warm brown orbs of her mother's eyes appeared in front of her, and as Rori tried to wipe the fuzz from her sight, she noticed it would not disperse. Rori tried rubbing her eyes harder and finally heard the foggy sound of her mothers voice, “don't rub your eyes Rori dear, you know how much Henry doesn’t like it.” Rori nodded her head as Alma reached down and yanked her to her feet, suddenly Rori realized she was still in Murdok’s mountain and as she gained her balance Rori grabbed her mother by the arm. “Mom! We have to get out of here… this place isn’t safe for you to be in.” Rori started to panic, but Alma grabbed her daughter on either side of her face, “silly girl, what do you mean… Henry already spoke with your lovely young man, and they agreed you would live here now, isn’t that fabulous, darling.'' Rori pulled herself from her mother's grasp as she s

Chapter Thirty-One

Destiny sat in her room curled around one of the pillows on her bed crying when Andy burst through the door, causing it to fly open and bounce off the wall. “Cheese and sprinkles, what is wrong with you!” Destiny screamed as she jolted upright in bed, still clutching the pillow to her chest, and Andy looked at her in a panic. “Oh young miss please, yee must come quick, must aid me.” Destiny slid from the bed but did not release the pillow she held. “why” she asked cautiously, and Andy began to shake his head back and forth. “It’s mistress Rori… she sleep in tha master’s study and is having a kind of fit… please young miss, I need yee help!” Destiny threw the pillow at Andy, and it sailed through the young spectrul as he scowled at Destiny, and she crossed her arms over her chest, “No way! She’s a liar… she works for Augustine… Murdok w

Chapter Thirty-Two

Through her confusion and tears Rori ran until her feet felt swollen and her lungs ached with every breath, as she slowed to a steady walk she tried to look around but whatever part of the mountain she was in had become dark and smelled musty, as if it had been a while since any life had graced the area. Rori shivered more from the solitude than any chill in the air, but as she wrapped her arms around herself and sank to the floor, she heard the slight sound of Andy’s voice, “dinna run miss, please… let Andy sit wit yee at least and kill the loneliness.” Rori sniffled and looked around “Andy?” she asked in a small hushed tone, “where are you, I can’t find you,” as her voice became almost frantic a gust of wind blew through the corridor, and suddenly, it lit with the soft glow of small fires lining the walls. Rori gasped as she watched the delicate flames snake around the sid

Chapter Thirty-Three

Destiny pulled Rori into the mountain and back toward the bedrooms. The small giggling troll shoved Rori into Murdok’s room, and as Rori stumbled inside, she was immediately met with three rows of rolling wardrobe racks full of clothes and the smiling face of Calder. Rori gasped as Destiny shot past her and stretched her arms out in front of herself, “TADA!” She sang loudly.  Destiny touched a few garments hanging on one rack and shrugged. “I realize it’s not the same as your own things but… I thought maybe if you had something that was yours, you could feel more at home here.” Rori flung herself into Destiny’s unsuspecting arms and squeezed her tight. “Destiny… I don’t even know what to say, this is the most amazing thing anyone has ever done for me. Why would you go through all the trouble.”? Destiny pushed her forehead against R

Chapter Thirty-Four

Rori wasn't sure whose arm she was holding or whose heartbeat was pounding in her ear, but she knew she felt home and safe sandwiched between her friends. The sound of shouting voices pulled the huddled trio out of their cocoon of shock and joy as Arthur, Mina, and Max came running into the room. Mina gasped as Mason and his sister stepped to the side, revealing Rori’s still sniffling frame. Arthur stepped forward and opened his mouth to speak, but Rori’s whimpered cries cut him off, “it hurts” she cried and as Mason picked her up from the ground, the smell of sizzling flesh caught Max and Arthur’s immediate attention.  “She has Lycan silver on her ankle, and it's burning her fucking skin off… Kristi, did you bring her here?” Arthur finally shouted and Mina shoved her hysterical mate aside as she grabbed her daughter, “Kri

Chapter Thirty-Five

The moment Rori darted away from Murdok his attention zeroed in on her, and as Mason’s much smaller body shielded her from sight, Murdok began to make an inhuman groaning noise as he neared the pair. Arthur tried to put himself between his comrade and his son, but Murdok simply swept Aruthur’s colossal frame out of the way with one swing of his half shifted arm.  Arthur’s body sailed sideways before sliding to a stop and as he pulled himself from the floor, he watched as a wave of purple magic jutted from his daughter to encase Mason, who was now half shifted and screeching in Murdok’s face. Murdok struck the luminescent purple barrier with large scaled claws, and Kristi grunted as she tried to wield her unpredictable magic. Kristi started to pant and cry as Murdok beat his fists against the blockade, causing small cracks a

Chapter Thirty-Six

Arthur stood frozen, watching in horror and awe as Murdoks enormous frame cradled the slight trembling body of the girl he had grown to love as his own while Mina pushed two large tables together and Kristi covered the top with an oversized cloth before motioning toward Murdok to bring Rori over. The large Stoic man looked apprehensive but laid the small figure he held on top of the table anyway, careful not to brush against her leg. Murdok stood over her, watching as the pained expressions and haggard breathing suddenly returned, Rori began her painful whimpers once more while Mina shoved Murdok to the side, so she could draw closer to the marred flesh, “ Let me heal her, your cuff is obviously tainted with bad Luceat, I am strong enough to override the primitive magics here, but I have to touch her to draw the burn out, and you must not interfere.'' Murdok began to growl and move forward, but Rori whimp

Chapter Thirty-Seven

Murdok roared in her face, “GET OUT!!!” and as the power of his voice blasted Kristi in the face with heat, he felt the lightest of touches at the center of his spine. Murdok glanced over his shoulder to see Rori’s compact frame tucked into his back as she sobbed and trembled. The large dragon shifter turned and knelt in front of her once more, “she must leave, and you must stay-” Murdok’s voice caught in his throat as Rori’s soft brown eyes lifted to meet his, and she nodded with thick tears streaming down her face. Murdok peered back over his shoulder to see Kristi still standing there with an angry purple haze growing over her head just as Arthur ran up behind his daughter and, wrapping his arms around her upper body, yanked her backwards off her feet. “Dammit, Kristi, you can't come here like that,” Arthur growled as he dragged his screaming daughter back down the corrid

Destiny zipped into the kitchen to place the books she found for Rori in a neat line for her to inspect, and then began to skip down the hall searching for her new housemate. Calder knew when he got the string of frantic messages that Murdok was not happy, but he had no idea just how livid his master was until he floated into focus. Murdok caught sight of Calder and thundered at the top of his lungs, “where is she!” he bellowed and Calder cocked his head, “master, I only took the young miss out to collect some things for our lady Rori, she was--” The spectrul was not allowed to finish his explanation as Murdok roared again, this time shaking the walls of their domicile, “you left Rori ALONE, and she fell through a looking glass.” Calder’s shock and disbelief turned the entire room to ice as he shook his head and lowered himself to the floor, “my apologies master, I will acc
