Making Amends. Is it enough?

Alrick carried a tray of food and bags with him. He juggled the items around until he could open the door to his apartment. Once inside, he stopped and looked at the bed. She was there on the bed. Quiet. Too quiet. “Hey.” Words failed him for a bit. “I brought you some clothes to wear.” He paused again. “And some food. You must be hungry.”                “So?” She didn’t look his way. If the quiet didn’t dominate. Alrick wouldn’t have heard Jessica-Lyn.                He put the tray down on a table near the foot of the bed. Then dropped the bags on the bed. Alrick pulled his keys out of a drawer and walked back to the bed. He unlocked the cuff holding

Clothing in size eight was a pain to find.                Time was ticking away, though. She’d even taken the time to dry her hair. The bag didn’t have shoes or boots. That wasn’t important. I don’t want to hear it and I don’t want to talk about it. You’re lying.”                Alrick had not expected her to be overjoyed at the first mention of it. But he hadn’t expected the shock of hearing her reject it and him. “It’s a little late for that. I may have been too blind to see it. But Craig wasn’t blind. He fixed things so that we wouldn’t suffer if NARC

The Dreaded Report

Craig struggled with the order of the news he must report to Alrick as he walked up the stairs to Alrick’s apartment. With a heavy sigh, he knocked and waited for a response.                 Alrick opened the door a moment later. “I was trying to call you and didn’t get a response.”                 “My phone is dead, and I figured it was better to deliver the news I have in person.” Alrick lost his smile at the sight of Craig’s face and his words.                 “Then come in. We can talk about it. What do you have?” Craig spotted Jessica-Lyn in the room. H

“Craig, while I remember. The pack is still adhering to traditions. What’s on tomorrow night?”               “Lighting the fires. I believe a group is heading out for a night revelry by Sky Lake. To honour those not with us.” Craig threw out.               “Good plan a gathering for before that. An hour or two. I want to introduce Jessica-Lyn to them.”               “Good. It’s about time you recognize who she is with you. To us. How do you feel about this Luna?”               That was the first time. Jessie heard anyone other than Alrick mentioned

I promise I won’t hand you over to your brother. You are being loyal to your pack and the law. No one will punish you for that. The NARC Investigators saw you helping and I’m sure they will hold that to your benefit.” He couldn’t believe the amount of anxiety flowing off her. Silent, but so expressive.“I said you could call me Jessie. You don’t think he'll try to hunt me down and punish me? Or kill me?” Jessie's emotions rolled over her face so fast that Alrick wasn't exactly sure how to read them. “I believe if he tries, it’ll be his mistake. He won’t get near you. He’ll also walk into his own demise. I suspect he’ll wish soon that he’d died in that explosion of his. Jessie, I don’t believe he’s in his right mind anymore. I don’t know why. He’s become a rogue.
