The Bitterness of Loss

As we left the now-closing pub, Lee suggested that we try once more to project thoughts onto some humans, but with how quickly it was becoming deserted, we figured we would also learn how to mask our presence from those we stalked.Naturally, I was amazing at it... and by that, I mean I got a nice bag to the face as a woman noticed me easily and although I had no impure intentions, she understandably was not happy about being followed.Rakesh found it amusing, to the point that he was keeled over laughing."My lord, are you sure you've merely forgotten and are not just... the worst Ancient One I have ever seen?" Lee asked, his voice was serious but that only seemed to make Rakesh laugh all the more.I shot the two a glare before rubbing my cheek. "Yes, yes, laugh it up, I might just go back to that rock and sleep for another thousand years," I muttered unhappily.Lee shook his head slowly. "If you were newly turned, I could see

As Sweet as You

After sharing a rather desperate kiss, Rakesh pulled away from me and let out a heavy sigh. I knew he was worried, but sooner or later we would run into his sister to save my parents. It was inevitable."I wish there was another way, maybe it is not too late to drag the Hunters into this, but then that risks you as much, if not more and..." Rakesh trailed off, looking off to one side. I tried my best to soothe his fears with a gentle stroke to his cheek.I placed a soft kiss on Rakesh's forehead and then, softly placed my arms around him, drawing him back into my arms. "It is going to be fine, Rakesh. Keep worrying too much like this and you'll get wrinkles on that old face of yours," I teased gently."Very funny," he replied with some amount of huffiness to his voice. He looked into my eyes and smiled softly at me. "Is it selfish of me to wish I could just leave your parents behind and run away with you instead?""Yes it would be," I said

Just a Little Girl

I stepped into the small convenience shop and began to gather a few bits and pieces to snack on. It was quite empty at this time of the morning and the overnight staff looked like they wished to be anywhere else except here. I had a summer job as a kid and knew that feeling so well. I hoped to be in and out quickly so that they could go back to spacing out, or stocking shelves, or whatever they had been doing before I entered.I grabbed some crisps, a chocolate bar and a sandwich as well as a pack of sweets and mints to enjoy while walking around on our travels. I mulled over the drinks next when I felt a little tug to my arm. I glanced back, not expecting anyone else in the shop since I hadn't heard anyone come in at all. Before me, a young girl stood there beaming a smile up at me. I guessed she was about six or seven years old. Why was such a young girl in the store, I wondered? Her long blonde hair was left loose to fall to her knees and fell in angelic curls. She

I Am Eris

As we arrived at the lake, the nymph sat at the edge and began to play with a few of the ducks and swans swimming there. Her feet dipped into the water, splashing with each little kick she did. She seemed quite happy to be back at her little spot of nature."Well, I know you're a nymph for certain now," I said with a small smile down at her. "Though now I wonder if you're actually as young as I thought."The nymph looked up at me with a bright grin and then giggled. "Mama used to have lots of children here, but the humans cut them all down. We thought we would die too, but we're still alive," she replied to me. She then looked out to the little island on the lake. "Big sis is here," she then said, standing up and lowering her form into a curtsey. My violet gaze followed the nymph's own, though I couldn't see anything or anyone. I expected they were hidden still or blending into the surroundings. I was anxious and one last time, I tried to reach out to Rakesh but

I am Not Nothing

The morning birds were chirping around us loudly. I hadn't moved from the ground where I had fallen after Eris had struck me down with the back of her hand. My gaze did not leave her form as she made her way back to me after having dealt with Lee. I was unsure what would happen next and I had nowhere I could run thanks to the surrounding lake. All I could do was wait and see.Eris folded her arms over her chest, pushing her breasts upwards with the pressure. She looked down on me like I was something on the back of her shoe. She seemed to be waiting for me to gather myself and so to avoid her temper, I slowly stood up, keeping my gaze set downwards. The other man just stood behind her. He seemed more of a guard but he looked intimidating enough that I did not doubt he could snap a person in half if he had the order to do so. He didn't seem too special, so I ignored him as best as I could.I didn't speak. I decided it would be best to wait for her to make the fi

Dance with the Devil

Thump.Thump.Thump.My head was throbbing loudly in pain. I couldn't quite make out where I was, but everywhere I looked, a bright white light filled my senses. I assumed I was in a brightly lit white room, but where exactly, I couldn't guess. There didn't seem to be any windows or doors that I could see. Just where had Eris taken me?Looking around with a wince, I tried to walk in a straight line but I found myself unsteady with everything so bright and white. I felt isolated and alone and all I could do was begin to breathe in and out as though any breath might be my last. After a moment I brought my hands to my face and began to sob quietly."Rakesh, where are you?" I called out weakly. Only silence answered me. I bent down and held my throbbing head and let a few tears fall down my cheeks. "Please come find me, I need you," I mumbled to myself and let out a shuddering breath. The bond between us was still cut off, but my whole body cal

Awake at Last

My head was throbbing something fierce as I slowly came around. My eyes felt heavy and part of me just wanted to go back to sleep. I recalled hearing Rakesh but now I was wondering if it had all been a strange dream. My arms and legs felt rather numb, as though I had been sleeping awkwardly and the blood had been cut from circulating correctly. I tried to reposition myself but found myself unable to do more than wiggle."Looks like you're coming around," a voice sounded out not far from where I was. I wasn't familiar with the voice, but it was male. I tried to open my eyes a little and winced at the bright light shining at me."Did anyone catch the licence plate on that bus?" I asked woozily yet still able to make some sort of joke despite what I could only assume was not the best of situations I had found myself in. The man chuckled at me, however, so I saw that as a sign that they had a sense of humour.I felt a plastic cup being brought to my mout

Her Empire

It felt like hours had passed by the time I woke up again. I had no other strange dreams and DJay had been rather kind during our little chats and had made sure that I was well taken care of and anything I needed was offered to me during my containment. Of course, I wanted to see my parents, but I could do nothing but wait for Eris. Finally, she returned to where I was contained and with a low whisper, she began to speak with DJay. I couldn't quite hear what was being said, but I assumed it was about me and the bond I had with Rakesh. I waited for them to finish before DJay moved over to me and began to untie my wrists and ankles from their constraints. I glanced between the two, wondering what was going to happen now.I rubbed my wrists as they were a little sore and had begun to get pins and needles in my hands. I then looked at Eris and asked, "you're going to let my parents go, right? Can I see them?"Eris looked my way and then folded her arms o

Shattered Memories

Once the tale was complete, Eris and DJay shared a look between them before looking back at me. Eris leaned casually back into the couch and folded her arms over her chest though, unlike her usual expression, she seemed more thoughtful this time."So..." I rubbed the back of my neck again, as I tried to softly encourage someone to say something.Eris finally spoke up, "while Rakesh is not wrong, I did kill many other families, but he is not as innocent as he claims either. We both killed many of our own kind, but it was because they wished to harm us first. Though I doubt he even remembers everything. He has lost a lot of his memories and powers, so of course, he would see me as doing him wrong." She pinched the bridge of her nose.I blinked at her. I wasn't sure if she was being truthful or if she was lying. "I don't understand why, though? And why kill those he bonded with in the past?""To protect him," Eris said firmly and without even

Meeting the Folks

Another elevator ride later, we arrived in an area of this place that seemed to be set aside as some kind of hospital. There were a couple of people here, though many of them were young. The nurses looking after them offered the three of us a polite nod of their head but otherwise, they seemed busy with their jobs. At the end of the corridor, a large set of doors stood. Two guards stood on either side of the doors, one a buff man and the other an intimidating woman. Noticing Eris, they offered a polite nod and unlocked the doors to allow us entrance. As my eyes adjusted to the light, I could see both my parents laying down on beds. They were unconscious and connected to several tubes and things.I rushed up to them and looked at them with worry. They were breathing, so I knew they were alive. It seemed they were mostly well taken care of, though after being gone for so long, it did seem like they had gotten smaller. I tried to put it down to me having grown up
