Chapter 1

I heard the urgent tone under his voice as he yelled and felt a hand shaking my knee in a frantic gesture. I sat up abruptly and forced my blurry vision to focus on my surroundings. When I realized what the pair of blinding lights was, I immediately strapped my seat belt on and curled my body up and tried to protect my head by shielding them with my arms. A weight settled on me as I squeezed my eyes shut and the next thing I knew, I was facing gravity head on.I woke up with my heart beating hard against my rib cage and my breathing was shallow. A thin sheen of sweat covered my forehead and back as I tried my hardest to get myself to calm down. It wasn’t long until I felt my breathing ceased back to a regular rhythmic inhales and exhales but I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep anymore. I felt around my bedside table for my phone and when I finally got a hold on it, the harsh light from the screen caused me to squint and I barely managed t

Chapter 2

I let my brown locks loose as usual and threw on the worn out hoodie over my usual tee and pair of jeans. Grabbing my backpack from the corner beside my bedroom door, I climbed down the stairs and walked into the kitchen to grab a quick waffle and say a brief goodbye to my parents before heading for school. The walk wasn’t long, I live 15 minutes away and it was bearable with earphones plugged in your ears. I put my music on shuffle and started walking. The sun was covered with some clouds today and the weather’s kind of windy, thank God. I swear I almost died of dehydration the other day.By the time I saw the school’s gates, I had 5 minutes to gather my things from the locker and head to class. Rushing to it, I arrived just as the bell rang. I immediately headed for my usual seat, right beside the window that overlooked the school’s grass-field.The school compound wasn’t small. I practically grew up in this town. I

Chapter 3

It wasn’t a secret that I aced every studies in school except of course, maths. I’m hated for it. They make me sit alone in every single part of the school. I was friendless and I honestly didn’t mind, maybe even enjoy it sometimes. Some bullied me, some let me be, a few acknowledged me without beating me up.And so, when I dashed out of that class and to second period, fate couldn’t help but have some old grudge against me and sync the new kid’s schedule with mine. Of course he chose the seat beside me, again. He bugged me the whole class and thankfully after those two periods, I’m finally free from the continuous word vomit from him.Lunch eventually came around and like every day, the bullying started. “Yo bitch! Why don’t you do us a favor and get the fuck out of this school?”I ducked my head and said nothing.“How about you shut up and get a life?!” An annoyingly familiar voi

Chapter 4

I cut off the engine after parking on a shadowed area where I usually parked and hung my helmet carefully on the steer before making my way inside the building.Let me tell you about the underground place. It’s a place where people street fight. It’s illegal so there’s not many who knows about it, maybe a few close friends of the fighters and that alone got 30 people streaming in every night and there were only a few female fighters in here. Here, I go by Pixie because I used to have a pixie haircut. The bartender is an old friend of my brother. He said the haircut suited me. The basic rules were if you fight and lost, you go home empty handed, bruised and battered but no one should know why, but if you win, you go home with a handful of cash.Moving on, I know most of you are probably wondering why I started to fight. And I can assure you that it was not for the money and it was certainly not for the fame or attention. The main

Chapter 5

“Bryant?” My voice echoed through the dark. I don’t know why I’m calling out to him but something in me told me to and I decided to go with it. My heart was heavy in my chest and I struggled to inhale a deep breath to calm myself from succumbing to the sadness buried in me.My breath hitched in my throat when I saw the darkness lifting and a scenery took its place and I could feel tears threatening to break through. I remember this, I thought silently as I tried to contain the sobs that was dangerously rising. I have to be strong. Don’t let them see you weak. Don’t give them that satisfaction. You’re strong. You’re strong. I chanted inside my head as I watch the scene unravel. There was a swimming pool in the middle of a familiar backyard. I watched as a girl ran towards it in her swimming suit, chased by a boy no older than 8 running behind her. She squealed in glee when the boy was close enough to

Chapter 6

I don’t know what and I don’t know how but here I am, standing in the middle of a meadow, gazing at the little flowers waving as the wind blew them lightly. Where the heck am I?Suddenly it all changed, the meadow was burnt, the fire was still there and it’s spreading fast. I screamed for help but no one came. Then it all came to an end, the heat ceased to exist and the whole scenery changed once more. A laugh erupted from beside me and I snapped my gaze towards it to see the familiar style of hair and the brown mischievous eyes.“Don’t look so tense, Casey. Relax will ya?” He chuckled lightly.I looked around and saw that we were in his car. I remember this, it’s right before the crash. “Bry, you gotta listen to me. You have to slow down, we’re gonna crash and you won’t survive.” I told him slowly, trying to not freak him out even if I am inside. He chuckled, “Nice try, Case

Chapter 7

I glared at his hand and imagined how it’ll be if I could have laser eyes. He didn’t release it though, if anything he tightened his hold by a tiny bit. If we weren’t in school and he knew about my secret, I would’ve probably kicked him onto his ass but alas, that wasn’t an option.I raised my eyes to meet his after a few minutes of silence, one of my eyebrows was raised to ask him silently on what he wants. He seemed out of it for a few minutes but after a moment, he released my wrist, taking a step back to give me a much-appreciated space.“I wanted to ask you to go to a party on Friday, as my date.”My eyebrows shot up. Is this how they ask girls out these days? Momma always said something about daddy going to grampy’s house before taking her anywhere. What happened to that chivalry?“No.”He didn’t seem surprised. Well, considering we weren’t on good terms in the first p

Chapter 8

Coincidentally, my parents were going to a business trip that Friday. Now that that problem is crossed out, next in line is how the hell am I supposed to survive this party?Adam was going to pick me up at 6 and bring me home by whatever time it’ll be. So here I am, in my usual over-sized t-shirt and baggy jeans, waiting by my doorstep for Adam to pick me up.The sound of an engine grew louder as it neared by and I rose from my seating position to the gates and opened it slightly for me to slip out. After making sure it was locked, I turned to face Adam who was sitting on his bike which, I have to admit looks awesome, maybe slightly better than my baby.Oh who am I kidding, nothing’s more beautiful than my baby.“So, are you going to get on or do we have to go through the ‘There is no way in hell am I going to mount that deathtrap’ phase?” He tried mocking me with a high pitched voice. I scoffed at him and grab

Chapter 9

I whipped my head so fast it’s a surprise I didn’t get whiplash. Hold on-mhm, definitely a whiplash. Ouch.I turned to meet the familiar blue eyes; the shade of blue that reminded you of the ocean itself. The thick dark brown mob of hair that could pass as black was cut short and was gelled up on the top of his head and even though it’s been months, I could’ve recognized that face anywhere. But it didn’t help diminish the dread that settled in. “Dominic?” I didn’t realize I said it until Adam spoke up, “You know the guy?”I nodded my head, moving my head slightly but my eyes were trained towards the guy I once called best friend and brother.“Yeah, Sand, it’s me,” he spoke so softly as if I’d break any second, which might as well be true. My knees went weak and tears threatened to fall as I unconsciously stepped closer hesitantly towards him. From the end of my vi

Chapter 10

I could feel the car spinning as the screech of metal against cement pierced my senses and the toppling over of the car as I was thrown into the embrace of the seat belt before it all came to a stop and silence filled the night but the problem is, a huge weight was settled on top of me and I’m hanging upside down.I felt something wet sliding down the side of my head and my head throbbed. My eyelids felt heavy but I can’t shake off the feeling that I shouldn’t be sleeping.I felt my throat going dry when I saw the face above me and the dread settled in the pit of my stomach as panic surged through me.I faintly heard my brother’s voice telling me that a panic man is a dead man but he didn’t say anything about keeping calm when he was the one causing me to hyperventilate.“No No NO! Bry? Bry?! No, this cannot be happening. Bry?! Wake up, please wake up!” I pleaded and begged but no matter how many times I
