Chapter 121

Chiyad Alpha Suite, HotelJustin “Thank you, this was all delicious.”A well-dressed waiter cleared the table set in the middle of the living room. The sunset had started, a dewey orange haze providing a beautiful backdrop to the dinner.“Indeed. Shall we toast, then?” Alpha Nael raised his glass. Kira followed suit with my wine, and I raised a glass of water. “Yes… to…. Relationships! To true mates!”Kira smiled broadly, small dimples crinkling her cheeks. She looked so happy. I sipped my water after clinking glasses with both of them.“And now,” he said, pushing back his chair. “I believe I should give you two some pri

Luna’s OfficeDeidre“I have Jennivah for you.” Cynthia’s voice echoed through the intercom.“Put her through, please.”“No, ma’am. I mean she’s here. To see you.”“I thought she was going to call.”“Apparently not, ma’am.”I glanced at the clock, closing my laptop and lowering my reading glasses. “Send her in.”“Yes ma’am.”A moment later, Cynthia opened

Chapter 123

Perrin  The last two days had passed in an exhaustive, emotionally void state. I felt like everything I did was just going through the motions. My sleep had been restless. My dreams, if any, had been plagued with angry, stormy skies filled with blood red and violent purple lightning.  My sole focus and drive was training. I didn’t do anything but push my body beyond exhaustion. I was up before the sun, putting in ten miles. I hit weights by myself for a couple of hour before the first challenger even parked at the Lodge. And after each workout, I ate minimally. I wasn’t hungry despite the workouts. I was just doing it to keep myself going until the next physical push. Food had no taste. I barely remember being able to keep anything down. I had been running on pure adrenaline. Running away from the weight of the pain that would hit me if I let myself slow down for even ju

Chapter 124

Perrin Somewhat numbly, I followed Lo into the clearing. Deidre was going to have a final say on the article? My empty stomach rumbled uneasily. It didn’t seem right, but there wasn’t time to deal with that now. I made a mental note to stop by Deidre’s office--or at least try to talk to Cynthia when I got off duty. There was no need to keep the charade going. If anything, I wanted it to stop.“Alright everyone.” I heard Janas call near the lockers. Lo has already approached Janas. Oddly, she was speaking quite animatedly.I headed to the locker to hang up my belongings. “Hey Perrin.”“Hey Kira.” Her voice was slightly higher than usual. I closed my locker door and leaned against it,

Chapter 125

A year ago, Chiyad PackLo“He’s here!” I rolled my eyes, adjusting my dress. My mother was practically squealing she was so excited. “Calm down!” I shouted, dabbing on some mascara.“How can I? What’s his name? You’ve barely told me anything about him!”“There’s a reason for that,” I teased, calling down the stairs from my room.“Are you going to introduce me?”“No, not tonight. If there’s a second date, maybe. But… definitely not tonight.”“Right right… gotta play it cool. Li

Chapter 126

A year ago, Chiyad PackLo“Hey mom, I’m home.” Justin had dropped me off once again with another chaste goodbye kiss on my hand. I was beginning to think he was gay and this was just a friendship. We had a great time together, and it was really fun to hang out. But maybe I was reading this all wrong? No. That couldn’t be it. He had asked me to be his girlfriend.Wait. Was he using me as a beard? No. Get it together.“Hi darling.”I stepped into my mom’s office where she was busy on her computer.“Did you

Chapter 127

A year ago, Chiyad PackLo“So, how’s it been going?” Gia sipped her smoothie, anticipation written all over her face.“Honestly?” I asked. “Obviously.”“Incredible.” I replied, glowing. “The last two months have been… just. Amazing.”Gia squealed with excitement. “Tell me more!”I haven't seen Gia much lately. She’d been busy on her rotations with the pack infirmary and when she did have free time, it was spent sleeping or studying. This was a rare afternoon she didn’t have to do one or the other and I was grateful to see her in person rather tha

Chapter 128

A year ago, Chiyad PackLo“It’s a pleasure!” Alpha Nael boomed across the great room. I had barely appeared before his voice echoed across the stone walls.“The pleasure is mine, Alpha.” And despite myself, I attempted an embarrassing curtsy. “Justin, she’s so much prettier than you let on!”“Father, please.” Justin sounded like he was restraining himself. “How dare you postpone our meeting for this long!” He continued to lecture his son.I wasn’t sure what to say, so I simply smiled. Alpha Nael opened his massive arms and wrapped me in a hug before I knew wh

Chapter 129

A year ago, Chiyad PackLo“A prison?” I gulped, willing my heart to stop racing. “Our pack house is a prison?”“Yes.” He said quite simply. But my head was racing.“I didn’t know that. It wasn’t in any of my history books--the archive would surely have a record of that, right?”“Right again,” he said solemnly, pulling his hands out of mine and taking slow steps around the nearby fountain. I couldn’t make out his face in the twilight but I knew by the tone of just two words that this wasn’t something he wanted to talk about

Chapter 130

Present DayPerrinEager to take advantage of a body filled with energy, I let my wolf form set a crushing pace.Much to my annoyance, Justin kept pace directly on my flank. Our first time running patrol together, he had surprised me by running on my flank. This was typical protocol, but I was skeptical that his arrogance would cause him to break. It hadn’t. And today, he was the model form of running formation. For some reason that made me annoyed.Looking to give me a cardio workout this evening? Justin asked. I could hear the panting of his wolf behind me. I didn’t want to engage, so I ignored him.I can assure you that I’m getting enough with Kira-- there’s no
