Doctor Laënnec

* * *Charles I went to gather everyone into Maddie's room when the doctor entered the castle to inform us of the progression of the plague. The girls were already in the room with Maddie, and all I needed was Peter for everyone to be present.  Ana suggested that I check the kitchen for Peter, an odd place, I thought, but nevertheless, I left to find him. Not before stopping at the doorway and looking back at Ella, my beautiful fiancée and future Queen of Briarglen. There was some kind of force that told my body every time that I left her that I had to steal one last look at the woman, I didn't mind obliging to this force.  Peter assured the doctor that there had only been two more casualties in the North Village and while that was good news, it was two more than there should have been. Doctor Laënnec then shared that the whole of the West Village seemed to be in

I Now Pronounce You...

* * *Peter The other day, when I was looking over Driz's map of the outbreak while she was bathing, I added the Ivie's household as two more casualties, but there was no need to add any traces of where the couple may have gone, they were practically hermits.  The map was mostly marked around the north village, just shy of my parent's home, I hope that they stayed healthy and safe. At that time, there was only a handful of casualties from the plague, but today, we learned of fourteen new deaths in a different village and one more in the castle.  Driz and I were looking over the map once again, baffled. Mr. Thomas, the mailman, whose notes we had been using to map the possible spread, had not visited the West Village at any time that he could have been carrying the plague before he fell sick. We had no idea what else it could be that was spreading it.

Amputation

After Maddie had forced Peter and Drizella to get married in front of her, calling it a 'dying woman's last wish,' she felt as if her soul was whole and at ease once again.  The newlywed couple exited Maddie's room, having rice sprinkled on them as they walked, per Maddie's request, and it was a beautiful sight. Seeing two people that she loved dearly so happy together, smiling, hand in hand, Maddie was okay with that being her last sight of those friends of hers.

Gone Too Soon

After their speedy wedding, Driz and Peter went back to their room to celebrate, but it quickly dawned on them the reason why Maddie insisted on them getting married right then and there. She had said, "Call it a dying woman's last wish." Everything after that happened so fast that her words were unable to be comprehended fully by the young couple, and they were soon surrounded with cheers and bliss after their "I do's," that the words she spoke had escaped them. As soon as they realized what she had meant, they hurried back across the hall to find the door was locked. "Maddie!" Driz yelled out and Peter rammed himself into the door in an attempt to br

Charcoal Portrait

* * *Ella After Maddie's death, a cold gloom hovered around the castle grounds. There was less laughter, fewer smiles, and no one knew what to do with their free time now that they couldn't come to Maddie and speak and gossip with her. The King ordered a proper burial for her to be laid to rest with her parents in the West Village. Malcolm had planned to stay in the village that they gr

Charles and Ella

* * *Ella After Maddie’s wake, we were all very quiet, but I couldn’t get over the likeness of the charcoal portrait that Charlie drew of her, and I wanted to know more about his hidden talent. “Charlie, where are we going?” I asked with an amused smile as he pulled me. I didn’t know where we were going, but we were heading towards his private quarters, and I became slightly nervous. “I want to show you something,” he said from in front of me. There was no way that he would be taking me to his bedroom, no, that was absolutely absurd. We stopped outside a regular-looking wooden door and I concluded that this was not his private bedroom, and I let my shoulders relax. “Close your eyes,” his voice was calm and playful, and I didn’t detect anything sinister going on, so I did as he asked and closed my eyes, covering t

Tremaine's Jealousy

Years after getting her revenge on her old babysitter, Lucinda returned to normal life as a young woman looking for a future husband. She was fifteen and gorgeous, flowing brown hair and brown eyes like chocolate, curves that caught every man’s eye, she walked around the village with utter confidence. There was only one other woman in the village that Lucinda considered being as beautiful as herself, and her only competition was Malinda Reed. Lucinda loathed the woman, they looked quite similar, except for their skin and eye color. Where Lucinda’s eyes were brown, Malinda’s eyes were blue. They had the same long, dark hair, Malinda's was more black where Lucinda's was

Warning

After finding Lucinda trying to sneak out of the castle, the King dragged her by the arm to the ballroom, which when there isn’t a party, he uses to conduct work with the village magistrates around the kingdom. The room had a certain echo when it was not filled with numerous guests, and Archibald wanted to put Lucinda on blast. “Your majesty, I swear, I came to warn you!” Lucinda pleaded as she fell to her knees in front of the King as he sat on his throne and glared down at her, just as he had glared at her daughter a month ago for similar reckless behavior.

Framed

* * *Ana Seeing mother in the ballroom with her eyes full of mischief and how she blamed Ella for the outbreak, I couldn’t help but wonder if it was entirely my mother’s doing and she was only framing Ella for the plague outbreak. Mother never liked El

Looking For Proof

It was just past nightfall and the threat of bandits was high for the group to leave for the Tremaine house on horseback, so the Prince offered a large carriage to escort everyone. Peter would act as the coachman because of how protective he is and his keen sense of incoming trouble.  Barely an hour passed and the group made it to the Tremaine household. It was dark since no one was present in the home, but the girls knew their way around so well that they pushed through the darkness and lit candles around the house to light their way. Handing a candle to each person, everyone took a separate room of the house to search.
