Giovani and Zabrina had gone straight from the airport to the appointed meeting place near the Hospital of the University of Philadelphia, where Gibbon was being treated. Standing atop a parking garage, they had a clear view of the building, and though there were a few cars coming and going nearby, for the most part, this area of Philly seemed to have gone to bed for the evening. The lights in the surrounding office buildings showed no one at work, and the apartment buildings in the distance were mostly dark, with shades drawn, the people inside snoozing, completely unaware of the monsters playing on the rooftops only blocks away.

Cadence bolted up right, almost knocking Aaron’s phone out of his hand as she did so. She looked around her own living room like she wasn’t sure where she was or how she got there. The last thing she knew, she’d been talking to Aaron about strategy, and then she was being chased. Abby Watson had been dead to the world when a familiar, and yet highly unusual, noise woke her. It sounded like firecrackers; it sounded like an assault rifle.It took her a moment to realize she wasn’t dreaming, and even though it didn’t sound like it was coming from the hallway directly outside of her door, it seemed to be on this floor. She heard several more shots and screams of terror as she dug her gun out of her bag and hurried to the door.

Andrew’s team might have needed some work when it came to stopping the enemy, but they were good at running interference. They had a Guardian named Stella who was a wonderful liar, though most of what she said to the police and the hospital officials was actually true. She explained that they were a special government agency sent there to protect Gibbon and that they happened to pull up just as the assailants were fleeing the hospital. There were no longer fifteen LIGHTS members present, however, by the time the police had arrived, as that would have been too difficult to explain. Only Stella, Andrew, and Reggie had stayed behind to help police and assess the situation.
