Chapter 222: Tea >/ Water

Emmet did not know when exactly he had fallen asleep, but he had woken up the next morning with his head on Emmet's bed, his hand wrapped around Emmet's own, with a blanket loosely draped over his shoulders and wrapped around him, almost on the verge of falling down to his waist. The meal that he had neglected to eat the night before was placed a little ways a way, with a cover over it and a napkin draped over that further, the mug sitting next to the food with a little wooden circle sitting over the top of it. An additional glass of water had been added as well, sitting next to the remains of the night before, and a little card with bumps on top of them, something that Emmet recognised from his Aunt Minnie's cabinets, probably paracetamol, with a little notepad and pen next to that as well. Emmet turned back to look at Jasper, tracing over the thin skin of his hands and noting the slightly healthier flush that had retur

Chapter 223: The Sheet Tides

There was a rustling of fabrics and Emmet's eyes immediately snapped open once more, his head shooting up and blurring his vision enough for black spots to appear all over his vision. "Jasper!" Emmet called out, valiantly attempting to rise up onto his one, functional knee, before he was forced to fall back down once more, his vision far too blurry and far too distracting.

Chapter 224: Waiting

Lila walked out of the office, and immediately slapped herself, letting the pain carry out its due course of spreading out througout her skin, dying it red and tender. She then walked on and into the cafe, flipping over the closed sign, and then locking the doors, ensuring that nobody else was coming in. It was Sunday, and she was tired.

Chapter 225: Focus

"What do you want from me?! I've just fucking finished writing up the report for the last person here! If I did your thing now, I won't have enough time to write the thing up! How serious is it? Can I do it tomorrow?" The voice on the other side of the phone was begging, pleading, and tired. "It's just to remove two plaster casts. I followed your fluid instructi

Chapter 226: Your Tomorrow

Lila regretted that she could not drink alcohol. The numbing sensation of it would have been useful in the walk home, the hot summer breeze nice on the back of her neck, but far too sharp for her in that moment. She wished for the pastel life where nothing was wrong, and everything was soft, fuzzy, and warm, like her blanket. She unlocked the backyard gate, and

Chapter 227: Back to Clueless Red

Lila closed the door behind her, and did all she needed to do, and then, when satisfied, made her way back to the office. She prefaced her return with," You don't have to get lost when you need me. The bathroom's upstairs and at the end of the hall. The kitchen is immediately to your left when you go up. The staircase is right in front of you, when you leave the room, just past the cafe. I'm going to sleep now."

Chapter 228: Her Horror Movie Attic

The cafe was a far different place than Emmet was used to: an ugly tile floor sticking out like a sore thumb, and an extreme lack of the embellishments that Emmet had once derided. It looked wrong, plain, and just... off. There were no green plants lighting up the room, breathing life into the place, and the white, circular lights above Emmet's head, turned on b

Chapter 229: The Mirror's Face

Quickly moving, he twisted open the handle to get into Lila's room, finding it in a dismal state. There was no bed, and also little furniture. In one corner, there was an iron and a large, flat board with multiple bedsheets laid upon it, looking as if Lila had been using the surface as a makeshift ironing board, rather than going out to buy a proper one. Underne

Chapter 230: Language Problems

Emmet had no idea about how long he had been loitering about Lila's kitchen, but he knew that by the time that she had arrived upstairs, ready to presumably cook the meal for the evening, he knew that he was hungry. She was rubbing at her eyes, an arm thrown out against whatever wall or surface was nearby, as she stumbled up the stairs and into the kitchen, tripping over the last stair and almost face planting the floor as seemed to be wandering around in a tired daze.

Chapter 231: Knowing Little

"Speaking of forgetting things. I needed to tell you that you have your doctor's appointment tomorrow. I know that I said that I'd bring him back to see you about... I don't know how long ago, but he's arranged to come about half six - ish in the evening. I do need to tell you first though that the doctor isn't a regular NHS doctor though. There's an organisatio
