WITH a single swipe of the hand, the tree trunk was cut cleanly into two like a knife cutting through the meat. It bounced on the ground before falling backwards, away from them. FALINE woke to the sound of displeased baby gurgles, her heavy eyelids reluctantly fluttering open. Eyes that were a reflection of her own stared intently at her as Lucian’s hungry whimpers loudened.
