Silence hung in the air after I dropped the announcement.

Preston finally broke the silence with laughter. Smirking, he asked, "Jeanine Colby, who do you think you are? You can't just call off our partnership with Harlan Group."

I reached into my pocket for my phone, only to realize Tara had broken my phone this afternoon.

I nonchalantly said to him, "Ah, well. You'll get the news by tomorrow."

Turning to Tara, I warned her, "I won't stand by and do nothing after you beat me up. My lawyer will contact you tomorrow. Get ready for jail."

Her body trembled, but she soon puffed her chest. "You're just scaring me."

Holding a sleeping Emma, I was ready to leave. I did not want to spend time bickering with him.

My actions might have woken Emma up. Her eyes slowly cracked open. She asked me where we were going.

"We're going home."

"Mommy, can we not go home today?" Even in Emma's sleepy daze, she wouldn't stop looking past me and staring at Preston. "Mommy, I want to be with Daddy."
