Chapter 9

When I arrived, Dad had just sat down.

He had been incredibly busy lately. I looked at the sudden streaks of gray in his hair, and a pang hit me.

This was my dad—a good man.

To be fair, ever since Mom passed, he never neglected me. Even during the hardest times at work, he always made time for me, no matter how difficult. He’s a wonderful dad who loved my mom and me.

However, he was also just a man, and like any man, he couldn’t resist the allure of a younger woman like Marion. She looked just like my mom, but that shouldn’t have been enough to cloud his judgment.

Without proper reason, he let Joanna go simply because of Marion's face.

He was definitely getting older.

“Hey, what brings you here?”

He poured me a glass of water as usual, checking the temperature before setting it in front of me.

“I heard the company’s really busy, so I thought I’d stop by and check in on you.”
