It was our wedding night, and all our guests had cleared out.

My husband, Keith, and I went through the wedding gifts, and the estimated total amounted to 100,000 dollars.

Floored, I couldn’t wipe the grin off my face, but the highlight of the night wasn’t the generous gifts. Despite Keith’s protests, I snatched up the gifts and put them away.

Right in front of him, I pulled out a scanty nightgown from the wardrobe and slipped into it.

Just as things were heating up, the pressing knock on the door interrupted Keith from pouncing on me. I threw my nightgown back on. I opened the door to find my mother-in-law, Whitney, standing there, pillow in hand.

Unsure of her intentions, I was a bit on edge.

Whitney was Keith's stepmother. She was not the stereotypical older lady. Thanks to her skincare regime, she looked young and alluring for her age. Her equally skimpy, if not worse, lingerie did little to hide her gorgeous shape, especially since she opted not to wear a bra.

The words that came out of Whitney’s mouth blew my mind.

“I don’t think it’s appropriate for you to sleep with us, Whitney.”

“It’s fine, Naomi. You seem to have a problem with me now that you are a part of this family.”

Though stunned, I quickly got a grip on myself and declined the suggestion.

To my surprise, Keith agreed without getting my consensus.

I was disgruntled. It was absurd enough that I had to share a bed with my mother-in-law on my wedding night, but she took up the space between me and my husband too. Whitney glanced at me before sprawling herself across the sanctity of my bed.

“A good wife shouldn’t be so petty. You should be kind to your husband’s family.”

Whitney’s lecture didn’t sit well with me. I doubted anybody would be happy if their mother-in-law crashed their wedding night and hogged the center of the bed.

To make matters worse, Keith didn’t even ask for my opinion.

I didn’t want to make a big fuss, especially since I was a new addition to the family. Since Whitney and Keith didn’t mind, I couldn’t give them attitude on my wedding night, so I bit my tongue.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, I got up in the middle of the night to find Keith sprawled all over Whitney, and Whitney even dropped her bloomers too.

Something felt off, but I didn’t dig deep into my hunch.

I’d just have to vent to my best friend tomorrow.

Keith had better make it up to me tomorrow for our ruined wedding night. I went back to bed, fuming. By the time I roused, I was all alone in bed.

I found Keith making breakfast outside the bedroom. I knew I had married the right guy. At least, I wouldn’t be stuck in the kitchen all day.

My best friend, Susie freaked out, but I just shrugged it off. “What? This isn’t right! She can’t be sleeping with her son at her age.” “It’s okay. My husband is good to me.” “Trust me on this, Naomi. What if your mother-in-law is a total pervert?” “Whatever.” Despite my words, the image of Keith and Whitney cuddling in bed last night replayed in my mind.Back home, Whitney had prepared lunch. As she invited me to join her at the dinner table, I felt a pang of guilt. Keith was still out, and Whitney had been busy in the kitchen, cooking all my favorite dishes, yet here I was, suspecting her intentions. “You didn’t have to, Whitney.” “Oh, Naomi. It’s fine. Keith loves my cooking. You need to work, and I don’t have much to do around the house anyway.” Keith returned home while Whitney and I wer

“I’m sorry. It slipped my mind,” I apologized to the technician and opened the door for him. “No worries. Just make sure someone is home next time you schedule an appointment.”I didn’t think that anyone would be home. Whitney must have gone out. I had completely forgotten about the appointment until the technician called. Although my suspicions had been cleared, it was not a bad idea to install surveillance. Since Whitney and Keith weren’t home, I didn’t see the point of telling them about the camera. The technician did a great job installing the camera in a discreet spot. The camera was subtly positioned, making it difficult to detect. Once I made sure everything was up and running, I returned to my office. Of course, I tested the camera, and the footage on my phone was crystal clear. I expected Whitney and Keith to be home later than me, but I walked into them at the dinner table. Before I could approach them, Keith said, “You should take a shower and change into a fres

Whitney rushed to the hospital for the birth of my child. She persuaded me to stay in the hospital for a couple of days. In the meantime, she would take care of my baby. Keith urged me to take up Whitney’s offer. I didn’t see why not. To my dismay, Whitney’s strange behavior only escalated once we got home. She was rather attentive to the baby, to the point of obsession. Sometimes, she wouldn’t let me hold the baby, giving me excuses I couldn’t refute. Something was off about her, but I couldn’t quite place my finger on it. I went back to work after a short maternity leave while Keith and Whitney became the main child caretakers. One day, I enjoyed a nice day off at home when I came across the baby’s health records that Whitney had left out on the table. With nothing better to do, I took a look. There it was, in black and white. I’d been married for a whole year, and I never truly knew the kind of man Keith was. To think I had been sharing a bed with a liar who cheated on me with his stepmother and even fathered a child with her. I couldn’t even imagine how I had gotten through the year. Keith always portrayed himself as a caring and supportive provider, and I had been foolish enough not to see through his lies for a year. Holding back my rage, I lay in bed and remained patient for the test results to arrive in three days. Three days later, I received the expected results on my phone, confirming my worst fears. My heart ached more as my child was still somewhere out there while the product of Keith and Whitney’s taboo affair was in good hands. It was so unfair. “Hello, Susie? Get me the best divorce attorney. I’ll tell you the rest in person.” “Sure.” Susie teared up the moment we met. I patted the back of her hand before leading her to a private room to talk. “You look out of it lately, Na

I threw the documents right in Keith’s face. Pulling a grimace, Whitney put the baby down to attack me. I whipped my hand across her face. Hell, no. I would not stand for this. My male friends were there just for show since it was not their place to intervene. I simply needed their presence to intimidate Keith and Whitney and keep me safe in case things got ugly. Desperation could drive anybody over the edge. I didn’t want to risk getting caught out in a bigger mess if the divorce didn’t work out. Keith stared blankly at the papers I had thrown at him. He grabbed Whitney from tearing into me and handed her the DNA test results. Whitney glanced through the papers before snapping a menacing look at me. “Did you think you’ve kept your secret hidden well? Did you think I’d never find out? I bet you believed I should’ve raised the bastard for you.” “The nerve of you to call my child a bastard!” Whitney blew up. Keith fell silent, his expression frozen. “What? Was I wrong
