The hotel owner shot Tia a scowl of contempt before turning to me with the most buttery smile I had ever seen. "Miss McPherson, surely you understand that we were only operating on false information and deception. It was all a misunderstanding!"

Vivian glared at him coldly. "I'm happy to inform you that Mr. McPherson will be pulling out his investment in your hotel. As for everything else—we'll see you in court."

The crowd of sycophants saw the police and panicked, quickly switching their allegiance to me.

"Miss McPherson! I didn't hit you at all, remember? I can be your eyewitness, too! It was Tia who was violent toward you!"

I found these people both pathetic and pitiful.

Closing my eyes, I whispered, "Tell the police yourself…"

At the hospital, the police announced that the baby had been miscarried.
