Chapter 7

Charles ignored my insults and pulled me into the living room. "We're a family. We should always be together. Let's go find Charlotte."

He cleared out a space on the couch and sat down, trying to get me to sit beside me.

I watched coldly as he lost his mind, refusing to move. He looked unhappy about that, but he didn't say anything. Instead, he turned on the TV.

I glanced at it and froze. Playing on the TV was our home's surveillance footage.

Holding the remote control, Charles began going through each piece of footage, keeping up a commentary for me as he did. "This is her coming home from kindergarten. She's practicing her dancing here. This is—"

"That's enough!" I cut him off sharply. I didn't want to watch any more.

When I saw Charlotte's lively figure on TV, I couldn't help but remember what she looked like in the morgue.

For me, this was sheer torture.
