I clenched my teeth in fury, itching to confront him right away. But then again, why should I let him lead me by the nose?

Calling over the bodyguards, I barked, "Find Julius! If you can't locate him, you're all fired!"

They dared not waste time and immediately set off.

Meanwhile, I contacted my lawyer and instructed him to check if the property in Paloma Bay was under my name. If it was, I wanted Valerie out of there immediately.

Why should my house be a haven for another woman?

The lawyer acted swiftly and confirmed that the property was indeed in my name. Since that was the case, it was time for Valerie to pack her things and leave.

"What are you trying to do, Naomi? Are you trying to destroy me?" she yelled into the phone.

My mother-in-law, Betsy Dutton, and I reached a consensus instantly. We soon began planning our escape. After much thought, I realized that faking our deaths was the best option. Betsy had been a pampered girl, married to my father-in-law, Rourke Dutton at the tender age of twenty. She had dedicated her life to supporting him and raising their children so she was naive and innocent in many ways. But when it came to acting, she still had her skills. “Naomi dear, I only have so much on hand. How do we begin?” I looked at the documents she handed me, and my eyes widened in disbelief. Three hundred million dollars?I shouldn’t have been too shocked. Betsy came from money. Compared to her, I had a meager five million dollars. But even that was more than enough to last us three lifetimes. “I have a plan!” I said.Betsy trusted me completely so I set the plan into motion without delay. In two days, it would be Rourke’s birthday. We decided to host the party on a luxury

Panic spread across the cruise ship as people frantically searched for Betsy and me.Meanwhile, somewhere not far away, Betsy pulled me out of the water. “Are you okay, Naomi?” she asked, a slight tremble in her voice. “I’m fine, Mom.” Wrapped in a blanket, I watched as the noise from the ship grew fainter, the vessel drifting farther away. I finally let out a sigh of relief. Once we were safely ashore and settled on the sofa of our hotel, we watched the news. The headline was enough to make both of us frown uneasily. [Dutton Family’s Birthday Bash Turns Tragic: Mother and Daughter-in-Law Fall into the Sea and Pronounced Missing] Valerie’s pale face dominated the screen, her eyes swollen and red from crying. “I didn’t mean to! I didn’t push them! They fell on their own!” Valerie was taken away by the police as Rourke looked on with a serious expression on his face. Julius however, looked especially haggard. I smiled as I turned off the television. Betsy patte

Her words warmed my heart, and I knew exactly what she meant. “I understand, Mom. Meeting someone would be a nice side benefit in life but for now, I just want to spend the rest of my time with you. If fate sends someone to me, I won’t turn them away. “Speaking of which, Mom, I’ve noticed that Mr. James Cotton from next door visits often. Are you planning to start a new chapter in your life?”She hesitated and looked slightly embarrassed. “James’s not bad looking, but compared to Rourke, he does fall short.” A sudden chill ran through me. “Mom, you’re not thinking about going back to him, are you?” She rolled her eyes. “Pfft! Ever since I found out about his mistress, I haven’t thought about being with him again. “But you know, we had been married for so long. It’s hard for me to let any other man in again...” She paused, then shifted the subject. “But this James Cotton—he’s a good man. Young but mature enough. I might give it a try!” I was slightly taken aback. It s

As if on cue, Rourke also removed his mask. He was caught off-guard by Betsy’s smug smile."Explain yourself, Betsy!" Betsy’s eyes rolled back into her head and she fainted.I almost did too, but Julius grabbed my wrist, pulled me by the back of my neck, and kissed me fiercely. I shoved him away, wiped my mouth, and stared at him furiously."Don’t touch me! Aren’t you with Valerie? Why are you out here pretending to be the perfect husband? Who are you trying to fool?" Julius looked at me for a long moment before breaking into a smile. "There’s no Valerie and me.""Stop lying to me! I saw everything. The reporters said it too. How much longer do you think you can deceive me?"He laughed. "So, are you jealous?""Jealous? Screw you!" Beside us, Rourke gathered Betsy up in his arms. "Julius, let your people know, we’ll handle this ourselves,” Rourke said as he strode out. Just as I made to follow, Julius blocked my path. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and forcibl

But I suppose spending that much time with my mom, what would you have learned anyway?“Or is that what they teach you at university?”I shot him a fierce glare. “These are all the things your father and you have done, so why are you blaming me?”“You need to get your head checked. My dad doesn’t have any bastard children, and my relationship with Valerie is nothing like you think.”“Yeah, right,” I scoffed.“Deny it all you want, but even the reporters can see through it.
