CHAPTER 9

Alex's POV

It was well past morning rush hour, so why the hell was I sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic at noon? The honking horns and exhaust fumes did nothing for my already frayed nerves. I hated delays—especially today, of all days. I had an appointment I couldn't miss, a promise I wouldn't break.

I fished my phone from my pocket, dialing Michael. He picked up after two rings.

"Alex? What's up?"

"I need to borrow your motorcycle," I said without preamble, my tone sharper than usual.

Michael let out a low chuckle. "Since when do you need a bike to get around?"

"Since traffic decided to screw me over at the worst possible time," I snapped, impatience simmering in my voice.

"Alright, alright. Where are you?" he asked.

"Stuck on the Gardiner. Can't see the end of it."

"Man, I thought rush hour was over," he mused. "I'll send one of my guys with the bike. Just hang tight."
