ZESA RUSSO
After explaining myself to the protesters, I went home. Today was extremely stressful for me. As I watched the news, I couldn’t stop thinking about what the protesters had said and their anger toward me for closing down Techya Bio without giving them a heads-up. It was not my first time shutting down a subsidiary, but this one went south. Perhaps I did not do a good enough job with this one. I needed to fix this mess because the workers were right. They had families looking up to them for survival, and it was wrong of me to dismiss them like that.
My phone rang, forcing me back into reality. I swiped my thumb across my screen to pick up after reducing the volume of the television.
“You asked me to call you when I’m ready to sign the contract.”
Ah… Nina Meyers.
“Are you ready to sign it? Can you really give up Levi?”
“Money is more important than love. You should know that. You’re a businesswoman. Did you make Techya a global company by choosing love every time?”
I ignored her question. “The contract is ready. Come to my place.” I hung up and placed my phone on the spot beside me. Finally, I would have him all to myself. But if after three months and his feelings did not change, it would mean he really doesn’t like me and Nina won’t be the one to blame. No one would be.
I went into our room to get the contract. When I returned to the living room, Levi came into the house. What perfect timing. I placed the contract on the center table and went to him. He forced a smile. He never smiled around me.
“How was your meeting?” I asked, taking off his suit jacket for him.
“It was okay.” He gave me a once over. “Did you go to work?”
I nodded. “Had to meet some workers.”
“That means you know about the people who protested in front of the building.”
“Very well.” I bit the inside of my cheek. “They thrashed my new car.”
I could see him try to stop himself from smiling. He was smiling at my misfortune. I turned away from him and went to sit down. In a few minutes, it would be my turn to smile. “Nina is coming over.” In announced, crossing my legs. “She’s ready to sign the contract.”
His smile disappeared as quickly as it came. “You really mean this, don’t you?”
I held his eyes. “When do I ever joke about things like this?”
He placed both hands on the backrest of the sofa. “You know I don’t love—”
“Shh.” I told him, shaking my head slightly, “As long as three months are not over, you love me with every fiber of your being. Besides, Nina has shown you what type of woman she is. So, why on earth are you hell bent on going to her?”
“Let me make something clear to you. It’s a pity Nina chose money over me, but I assure you I can never fall in love with you even if you try.”
I stood up. “Time will tell, Levi. I’ve waited thirteen years for you to come to me. I can wait three more months. However, if three months are over and your feelings for me remain the same, I’ll let you go. For good.”
Without speaking another word or showing him how much his words hurt me, I went into my study. Right from when I was a teenager, I always busied myself to take my mind off the things that hurt me. Especially when my parents died. It felt as though my world was crumbling. Yes, they left a growing Techya to me and my little sister, Malena, but it was not enough. I needed their advice, their love, and their support.
Despite that, I went to school while keeping the company in check. There were many people who opposed having a teenager become the CEO, so I strived to make sure they never got a chance to say shit about me. When it was time for Malena to go to college, she said she wanted to travel out of the country. I let her go, and I had not seen her for about four years now. We still spoke to each other at least twice in a month.
It was during that time that my feelings for Levi became stronger. Whenever I needed someone to talk to, a shoulder to lean on, he was always there for me. Everything changed when I confessed my feelings to him. He began distancing himself from me until it turned to hatred. I never understood why.
So, just like before, I buried myself in my work. I only came out of the study when I heard Nina’s voice. She was here. I joined her and Levi in the living room. It appeared they were talking about something serious, only to stop when they saw me. I couldn’t care less. I sat across from her. She wore minimal makeup with blue jeans and a white shirt.
“Here it is.” I slid the contract across the table.
She picked it up and opened it. After reading through it, she brought out a pen from her purse. I could see the heartache on Levi’s face when Nina’s pen hovered over the paper. She looked between me and Levi. I thought she had changed her mind about signing it. I expected her to drop her pen and walk out but instead; she signed it, trading the man who loved her for fifty million.
“There, I’ve signed it.”
I took the contract from her with a smile. “I see that. Send me your bank details. Expect the money in an hour.”
She stood up, her eyes on Levi. “It was nice while it lasted, but I have a future ahead of me.”
She grabbed her bag and made her way to the door. I watched Levi come to his feet. When he tried to go to her, I held onto his wrist. He faced me. There was wetness in his eyes. I reached for his face and wiped a tear that fell. He threw off my hand, grabbed his suit jacket, and left.
Hours went by as I waited for him to come back home. It was almost 12p.m. and he still wasn’t home. Worried something had happened to him, I tried calling Marie. She would probably know where he was since she had eyes on him. As I dialed her number, a drunk Levi came in, staggering like a tree in the wind. His hair was a mess and the smell of alcohol rolling off of him was strong.
“Where have you been?” I asked, going to him. To my surprise, he cupped my face in his hands, gazing into my eyes with pain in his eyes.
“Do you have any idea how much I loved you?”
A sprout of hope grew in my heart at his words. Were his actual feelings coming to light because he was drunk? Did he actually have feelings for me and was only pretending to not like me? If it was so, I would get him drunk every day just to hear him speak with honesty.
“You’re drunk, Levi. You should get some rest.” I advised, trying to remove his hands from both sides of my face.
“Do you know how much it hurts?”
I did not want him to stop talking. I wanted to hear more.
“Nina…”
My heart fell. He was talking about her. It was never about me. I could barely process my thoughts because his lips came into contact with mine, warm and soft. My lips parted slightly, allowing his tongue to slip inside. An arm found my waist, and he pulled me closer, pressing our bodies together heatedly, and our breathing heavy. His fingers carded through my hair, warmth blossoming in my chest.
However, I had to stop him when I felt his hands slip into my clothes. He was drunk. I couldn’t give myself to him, knowing fully well he would despise me the next morning. I placed my hands on his chest, pushing him back slightly.
“You probably won’t remember this tomorrow, but,” I tiptoed to kiss him. “I love you, Levi. I really hope you change your mind about me before the end of the three months.”
He smiled at me before passing out, his heavy weight sending us both to the ground. I could only lay him down on the couch, since going up the stairs would be a lot of work. After covering his body with a blanket, I sat down and watched him sleep. I touched my lips. He’d kissed me even though he had Nina in mind. Our very first kiss happened, but he might not remember it tomorrow. And if he did, he would hate me more.
“What am I going to do with you?”

When I woke up the following morning, Levi was no longer on the couch. I got up from the floor and stretched my body before going into our room to see if he was there. As expected, he was getting ready to leave.
“Good morning.” He greeted, fixing his tie.
I studied his facial expressions. It was either he did not remember what happened last night or he was pretending to not recall. “How do you feel? Does your head hurt?”
“A little, but I’ll be fine soon.”
“Okay. Wait a little so I can make breakfast if you’re not in a rush.”
“Alright.”
I frowned. He was being too calm. He was not avoiding me, which meant he did not remember what happened. Why did I even care? Did I want him to remember kissing me like his life depended on it? I spun around and left the room. It took me some minutes to prepare breakfast for him. I was in no mood to eat. While he ate, I went up to brush my teeth and shower. By the time I was done, he was ready to leave.
“The party is today, right?” he inquired.
“Yes.”
“I’ll be home early.” He pulled me close and kissed my forehead. “I’m doing what I have to.”
I was regretting making such a deal with him. The things he did only made me love him more and, to him, it made him hate me more. As much as I wished to ask him if he remembered the kiss, I decided against him. What good would it do me if he despised me more?
His phone rang, and he answered. “Hello?” his eyebrows furrowed after some seconds. “Is that so?” he looked at me. “I understand. Tell him to not worry about it.” After hanging up, he said, “Looks like I don’t have to go out today. What do you want to do today?”
Although it saddened me he remembered nothing from the previous night, I managed a small smile. “Let’s go shopping.”
Today, I found out Levi wasn’t a fan of shopping. Perhaps it’s because it was me. Yet he followed me around, alongside the two workers in the store. I was VVIP after all. One of the workers, a dark-haired female around my age, led us to the bag section. She pointed to a brown checkered Gucci bag. I had a weakness for branded products like Louis Vuitton, YSL, and Gucci, and this woman knew it.
“This beauty came in yesterday.” She told me, carefully getting the bag for me to take a look at it. Once it was in my hands, she asked. “Do you like it?”
I considered. The size was perfect and the neutral color enticed me but I already had something similar to it. I didn’t think there was need for it.
“There’s only three of it in the world.” She informed, studying my face.
That did it for me. “I’ll take it.”
Next, we went to the clothes section. Just like a couple did, I picked out a couple of dresses and went to change after which I showed them to Levi for his opinion. The first dress was a pink one shoulder drawstring ruched high slit dress. It was chic and sexy and highlighted my curves. I stood in front of him, hands on my waist.
“What do you think?”
He leaned back, eyes scrutinizing my outfit. “It fits like a glove, but I feel it’ll be better in blue. Blue always looks good on you.”
My heart did a mini flip. I refused to believe what my ears heard was true. “Blue looks good on me?”
He nodded. “Yes. Especially that blue suit you wore to my office one time. It brought out your eyes.”
I was too stunned to speak. He actually paid attention to me to know that a particular color looked good on me. What he just said gave me a little hope, and I liked it. I wanted to believe we were getting somewhere.
He shifted his attention to the woman. “Do you have this in blue?”
“We do, sir. I’ll go get it.”
While she went to get the dress, I tried on another dress. A black and white color block crisscross halter high slit dress. It gave me party vibes. Levi approved of the dress. The woman came in, holding a blue dress. I took it from her and changed. When I came out, she gasped.
“Blue looks good on you, ma’am.” She faced Levi, smiling. “You have an excellent eye, sir. She looks exquisite.”
Levi held me in his gaze. “She does.”
If someone out there was listening to my heartbeat, they would think I just ran miles judging from the rapid beating of my heart. Then I remembered he was acting the way he was because of the deal. He didn’t mean it. A bit down, I tried the last dress. This one, I liked very much. A black, off the shoulder glitter layered sheer mesh party dress. The mesh covered one shoulder in a ruffle pattern and at the bottom of the dress; it was layered and had glitter on it. I loved it. I found a dress for the event tonight. It was chic and glamorous. Just like me.
“This is perfect.” He told me, nodding in approval.
“I’ll wear this later tonight.”
He stood up and came to me. “You should.”
LEVI DEL CAMPA When I woke in the morning after getting drunk the night before, my head hurt as though someone swung at me with a bat. It became worse when I saw Zesa sleeping beside me. I stared at her sleeping form, wondering why she was there. Then the memory hit me. How I came home drunk, said some dumb things and ended up kissing her. I could vividly remember the feel of her body against mine, her breasts rubbing against my chest, my hands around her small waist, and how I almost did it with her. I recalled how she told me she loved me and kissed me again before everything went black. My guess was I passed out, and she laid me down on the couch. That was not the issue. The issue was the kiss. I hurriedly got dressed for work as I was trying to avoid her. How could I face her after what I did last night? Unfortunately, the universe chose to be a bitch and woke her up. When I saw her, my heart skipped a beat. Not out of love but out of worry, she would get the wrong ide
ZESA RUSSO It was time for me to leave for the event I was invited to. Clad in my beautiful, black dress from earlier with silver earrings dangling from my ears and the same colored necklace resting on my collarbone and wrist, a black purse and silver heels, I was ready to live with my hair in soft curls. I’d visited a salon to get my hair and makeup done, as I was in no mood to do it. I was afraid I would mess it up out of anger. After ensuring I had my phone, card, and lipstick, I was ready. Thankfully, Levi was not home, which meant he changed his mind about coming as my plus one. I guess I would end up attending the event alone. Edwardo had my limousine parked out front when I came out the front door. He silently opened the back door for me and I got in.Just when he was about to close the door, I heard approaching footsteps before I saw the face. Levi. What was he doing all dressed up in a black tuxedo? He motioned for me to scoot over. I didn’t.“What are you doing?”
LEVI DEL CAMPA She obviously thought I wanted to kiss her. I had a reason for doing what I did, though. There was nothing on her face, but someone was looking at her with emotions in his eyes. A man who had feelings for her and had just confronted me about it, even though I was her husband. Alejandro Ortega had feelings for Zesa and he made it clear to me. It seemed their meetings together turned into feelings for her. Even if he did like her, why would he confront me? Unless he knew I wasn’t with her out of love. If that was the case, he was asking me to leave her alone. He wanted me to move to the side so he could be by her. Although I didn’t have feelings for Zesa, it made me angry to think he had the audacity to talk to me about such a thing. Whether I married her because of a darn contract or because I loved her should be none of his business, because in the end, I was her husband. Me. How dare he tell me to my face that he had feelings for her? I looked at Zesa. S
ZESA RUSSO I hardly ever spoke about my parents. It often brought tears to my eyes, but today, I remembered them. My mother was a beautiful and kindhearted soul who went by the name Ozora. My father, Luca, was a strong willed and hardheaded man who had a soft spot for the one he loved. According to my mother, she and my father met at the movies. He’d gone on a blind date with the daughter of a noble family when he caught a glimpse of her throwing popcorn into her mouth as she mumbled to herself. According to my mother, my father fell in love with her at first sight and followed her about, ignoring the woman he’d gone to the movies with in the first place. My father had a different point of view, though. He said he didn’t follow her about. She just happened to be wherever he wanted to go. When she reminded him of how he followed her to her home, he laughed it off, saying he did it out of love. Looking at them back then, I wanted what they had. I wanted to live with someone
LEVI DEL CAMPA I stayed at the hospital for about an hour with Louryn before telling her I would leave. I’d barely slept last night, and I was exhausted. But before leaving, I gave her some money just in case something came up. By the time I got home, it surprised me to hear laughter and grunts coming from the living room. I opened the front door and entered the house, shutting the door before me. I froze for a moment at the sight before me.The living room was a mess, with caviar on the white couch and on the color, two bottles of champagne on the floor and one on the table, half of its content drunk. What was more shocking for me was Zesa, who was sprawled out on the floor with Finn, trying to lift her up. He, too, was drunk, but not as much as she was. Wasn’t he supposed to be at work? Today was a Friday.“What’s going on here?”Their eyes snapped to me. Finn hurried to his feet and adjusted his tie that was already a mess. There was a stain on his white button-up shirt
ZESA RUSSO Earlier, I woke up with a brain splitting headache after being woken up by a call from Neviah. A friend I met while I was in college. We had the same major, but unfortunately; she had to drop out of school after her father passed away as there was no one to pay for her tuition. I couldn’t help her back then because my business was still growing and there was not much I could do. I had suggested taking a loan from the bank but she refused, afraid she would be unable to pay back later.A year after she quit school, she became pregnant. Her boyfriend of three years was the father of her twins—Amaris, her daughter, and Asher, her son. He broke up with her when she told him about it. Since then, Neviah became a single mother who avoided any man that came her way because her mindset changed. To her, any man who came to her in the name of love only wanted to hit and move on. At the moment, she worked as a stripper at the club. It paid well, in her opinion.Despite her
ZESA RUSSO I couldn’t wait to see the anger plastered on his face, so I went home as he wanted. The guards were at their positions, head up as they scrutinized everything in the surrounding area. I would have dozed off a long time ago if I were to be in their shoes. I went into the house to see that the living room was empty, so my guess was he was in the bedroom. While going up the stairs, I pulled my lower lip in between my teeth as I tried to keep from laughing. My hand found the doorknob, and I twisted it, letting myself into the room.Levi sat at the edge of the bed, his phone in hands as he twirled it around. He lifted his head when he heard me come in. Pretending to not notice the anger rolling off him, I took off my denim jacket, so I was in denim pants and a white tank top.“Why aren’t you sleeping?” I questioned, putting my hair in a bun.He came to his feet, his eyes a glare. “Who was it?” I bit back my smile. “Who was who?”“Don’t
ZESA RUSSO What in the world just happened? Even though my exposed pussy was screaming the answer to me, I did not want to believe it happened. I did not want to believe that the Levi Del Campa just finger fucked me in here. I rose from the bed and went to the door, ignoring the flow of juices running down my legs. I opened it and peeked outside. He was nowhere to be seen after grabbing his shirt.I shuddered when I remembered his words. “You were touching yourself last night to get a reaction out of me.” How in the world did he know? It wasn’t as if he had spy cams on me. So, how did he know I was not with a man? Most importantly, how was I supposed to face him after what had just happened?I went into the bathroom and washed off. By the time I was done, it was as if my brain was recollected. I put on a new set of underwear, a brown skirt and a beige shirt. Yes, a skirt. For easy access just in case the spirit that possessed him earlier possesses him again and maybe I’d g
ZESA RUSSO Fifteen minutes later, Levi arrived at the orphanage. It made me happy to know that he’d stopped by somewhere to get the kids gifts because he had bags upon bags of gifts. While the nuns shared the gifts amongst the kids, Levi joined me in Juliane’s office. I still hadn’t swallowed down what she had said. Was it when we did it in the car? But it had been over three weeks since then. Dear Lord, please save me.“Hey,” I was forced out of my thoughts when I felt Levi’s hand on my thigh.“Huh?” His eyebrows furrowed ever so slightly. “You’ve been spacing out.”“I have a lot on my mind.” I responded, managing a small smile for him. To change the subject, I turned to Juliane who was staring at me before I even looked in her direction. She had succeeded in dropping a heavy bomb on me and she knew it. “What were you saying about the adoption?”Juliane averted her eyes to Levi. “Mr. Del Campa, earlier I suggested adoption to your wi
ZESA RUSSO Ever since the release of Veltrina-50, Techya got more attention from companies abroad and a lot more than normal in the country. I was proud of the researchers who made it possible and, because of that, increased their pay. They deserved that much. Back then, I thought we would be unable to perfect the drug, but the result exceeded my expectations. I’d just wrapped up a meeting with the researchers to thank them since I could not do it at the time of the release. With Leandra by my side, I made my way to my elevator, only stopping when I saw Eric come out of an elevator. We’d failed to talk about things the last time we saw each other. I looked over my shoulder at Leandra. “I’ll be up soon.”“Alright, ma’am.”I walked over to him, noting how he had a file with the company’s name on it. His brother must have given it to him.“Eric,” I said, tapping him lightly on the shoulder. He turned around with a smile that immediately disappeared and his expression turned bu
ALEJANDRO ORTEGADISCLAIMER: This chapter contains slight sexual harassment. Read at your own risk. {After the first _}THREE WEEKS LATER I was livid with the betrayal of Enzo, Sophia, and her father. They cast me aside, and left me to suffer the very minute I found myself in a ditch. Even my father would have done the same if he hadn’t been caught trying to flee the country. The pain of knowing that he wanted to choose himself and leave me to suffer on my own sank deep into my flesh and into my bones.I stood before the court as they announced my sentence before Zesa Russo, whose face looked like it hurt from smiling too much. She reached into her purse and pulled out a rainbow colored handkerchief to wipe at her nonexistent tears. What did she offer Sophia that was just too irresistible that she let go of her so-called love for me? Was it always that easy to get rid of me if I proved to be useless to her? Had she lied to me the entire time?I looked at the man beside
FINN GIOVANNI After Zesa showed me what dirt she had on Alejandro’s father, I was disgusted. Harming people without remorse was really their thing. Once she’d sent the mail to a news station, I saw her happiness double. I was glad she wanted revenge as much as I did. It brought joy to my soul. In a few hours it would be released and people would want to know the truth. Their stocks would drop and they would be taken to court and humiliated. What better revenge was there than watching the person who hurt my sister go down with his father and cherished company?I trailed behind Zesa with my hands in my pocket as she made her way to Alejandro’s room where four police officers were situated outside. The two at the door moved to the side to let us in. Sophia had already beat us and boy, was she furious. Her body shook with rage as tears rolled down her face. Alejandro simply took it in with his head lowered. What was this? He wasn’t snapping at her because I knew very well he wa
ZESA RUSSO I’d never had sex in a car before. Until now.Levi unlocked the car and I slid into the backseat, taking off my heels and panties as I watched him go around the car to the driver’s side before proceeding to amp up the A/C. He joined me in the back after making sure he’d locked everywhere. “This is nerve-wracking,” I whispered softly, reaching my hand out to his groin to unbuckle and unzip the clothes in my way.“That’s what makes it fun.” He responded, pulling his bottom lip between his teeth, releasing a moan that told me he needed a release and that I was the only one who could do something about it.He lifted himself slightly and peeled down his boxers, revealing the tip of his bloodshot cock that was clearly causing him a lot of anguish, as it lay engorged over his belly, malformed in how it curved to the side. It throbbed and twitched as though happy to see me. He bucked his hips and his drooling dick rose, head pointed straight at my face.My hand hovered
ZESA RUSSO By the time I arrived at the spa, Sophia was already there and had settled in. A worker directed me to the massage room after I stripped out of my dress and draped a robe over my body. I opened the door and was pleasantly surprised by the interior that seemed to differ from what I’d seen so far. The room boasted sandy-pink walls and a dramatic tiered ceiling, which staggered upwards into a cone-like shape. In the middle of the room were two beds, both covered in crisp white sheet that with a towel on top, save for the pillows. It seemed she wanted an oil massage for me. Close to the door was a green terrazzo vanity that brought back the natural vibe the spa gave off. On one bed was Sophia with her head turned away from me while a masseuse massaged her legs. Another masseuse stood at the foot of the bed I was to occupy. I looked towards the table close to the window with two vases and a phonograph that played soft, classical music. It was soothing and created a
ZESA RUSSOOne of the hardest things I’ve ever had the displeasure of comprehending was the funeral of a child.I’d heard that one of the things a parent wished for was to be buried by their child when they become old and wither away like a flower. Not the other way around. This was clear to me as I drowned in my sorrows, feet marching into this black abyss called a graveyard. In the snow and frigid air, all I could hear was the heavy, pounding feet of others as we marched as one. I and Levi’s hands clenched together, gripping at each other as though the pain would subside if we squeezed hard enough. It was purely a superficial comfort to help console others, rather than ourselves.I stood shivering next to a deep hole that had been dug where the casket would be lowered into. While waiting for the pallbearers to deliver the body, I thought about what my life would be like once mother earth swallowed him up. How it would feel to sleep knowing that his cries wouldn’t wake me up in the mi
FINN GIOVANNI Malena and I sat side by side in an awkward silence beside Sophia who had regained consciousness and was currently crying her eyes out. We’d told her everything, and it somehow ended up with her crying. Was it out of disappointment or just the feeling of hurt? I couldn’t tell.“How could he do such a thing to me?” she sobbed, her shoulders shaking as droplets of pain dropped from her eyes. “I knew he was an asshole, but this is too much. He lied to me about an engagement,” she wiped at her tears. “Got a woman out of jail when she’s supposed to be in there serving her time. Now, how am I supposed to face my parents and friends?”“Sophia.” Malena put her hand on Sophia’s in a bid to console her. “You shouldn’t be crying over such a person. He isn’t worth it. No man deserves your tears.”“I know,” she sniffled. “But I love him.”She lowered her eyes to her thighs. “We sometimes love the wrong ones.” It was like a punch to the gut when she looked at me. “Doesn’t m
ZESA RUSSO The police were taking too long to arrive. I was losing my patience. Whilst I waited in the car for them to arrive, Alejandro drove past me. Why now of all times? Why would he come in now? I glanced around the house’s surrounding. There was no sign of Nina. She was long gone into the house, though. If she was dead, I did not know. I got down from my car after watching Alejandro go in. There was not enough time to wait. If he were to get his hands on the contract, he would not hesitate to kill Levi. I couldn’t have that. The least I could do was stall. With my heart beating loudly in my ears, I got closer to the house. Thankfully, he’d left the gate open, so I did not have to draw attention to myself by touching the metal. I lifted my leg to take another step when I heard a blood-curdling scream. I halted in my steps when I realized that the voice belonged to Nina. Something had happened. I looked down at my hands to see that they were quivering with fear with eac
