Penulis: Morning Tree

Chapter 1

Penulis: Morning Tree
"Well? She's been locked inside for days now. Has she admitted her mistake yet?" Colin Shaw's face was twisted in disgust as he glanced toward the cave and questioned the bodyguard.

"No, sir. Mrs. Shaw hasn't begged for mercy once," the bodyguard replied firmly.

He was right—I had not begged for mercy, but I did call for help.

"Mr. Shaw! Mrs. Shaw hasn't eaten or drunk anything in days. Could she have passed out? Maybe we should let her out?" Kyle Wilbur, our driver, suggested.

Having watched Colin and me through our courtship and marriage, he always seemed to pity me.

Colin's face darkened, his voice cold as ice. "Shut up! So what if she's gone a few days without food and water?

"Olivia has been missing for so long, with no idea how long she's gone without either. Norah deserves to suffer just like Olivia did!"

He added, "And Kyle, don't think your long years with the Shaw family give you immunity. Anyone who dares plead for that woman will be fired on the spot!"

Kyle turned pale and quickly backed off, leaving just Colin and the bodyguard. From within the cave, I could see Colin's hand tenderly caressing a ribbon tied around his wrist.

His voice softened as he murmured to it, "Olivia, I wonder how hungry or scared you must have been all this time. I miss you so much.

"I've already locked up Norah Martinez. I'll make sure she pays for everything. Oh, Olivia..."

He was pouring his heart out to that ribbon as if it embodied his lost love, but all I could feel was a crushing pain. He was so gentle when he spoke about her, yet here I was, cold, hungry, and forgotten in this hellhole.

I suddenly realized something horrifying—I was already dead. Olivia Martinez's final note had explained that she did not want to hurt me anymore by staying in his life.

Yet, Colin blamed me for her disappearance and locked me in this cave as if I had driven her away. My entire body ached as waves of cold and hunger tormented me.

I screamed for help, but no one came. With that, I was left in the dark with nothing but my fears and the sting of a cobra’s venom burning through my veins.

The pain twisted me into agony as I struggled to breathe. Death's suffocating grip closed tighter and tighter, and I found myself unable to escape the terror consuming me.

"Olivia, I'll make sure Norah is punished for what she did to you. I swear it... Olivia..." Colin's words echoed cruelly in my ears.

I thought bitterly, 'Punish me? Really? The punishment had already been carried out—you were the one who sentenced me!'

Tears streamed down my face as the heartbreaking truth settled in. I was dead—Colin had killed me with his own hands.

I wondered what I had done to deserve this. After all, all I did was reject Olivia.

Just a few weeks ago, Olivia suffered a sudden and severe case of kidney failure. She needed a transplant, but despite the Martinez family's desperate efforts, they could not find a suitable donor. That was when Olivia set her sights on me. She said tearfully, "Colin, I might not have much time left. You have to promise me... Live a happy life with my cousin, Norah."All I want is for you to be happy, even if I'm the person you spend the rest of your life with."Colin immediately replied, "No. I'll have Norah give you her kidney!"I refused him outright. There was no way I would sacrifice my kidney for that woman. She had tormented me since childhood, and now she wanted to steal my husband too. When Olivia heard my refusal, she sobbed softly, "No! I don't want Norah's kidney! I won't accept it!"Yet, right after saying that, she'd secretly texted Colin: "Colin, I've decided to spend my remaining time well. Joey and I are going to the nature reserve. I've been wanting to go there

Olivia sobbed uncontrollably, her face streaked with tears. "I'm sorry, Colin! I didn't mean to! I never thought there would be wolves here... Joey died protecting me…"Colin gently pulled her into his arms, comforting her as if nothing else mattered. "Baby, don't cry. Of course, I know it wasn't your fault."I could not believe it. Colin did not care—he did not even bat an eye at the fact that Olivia had caused our child's death. Rage boiled inside me, and before I could stop myself, I stormed forward, yanked Olivia out of his arms, and slapped her hard across the face."You shameless woman! If you have a death wish, why did you take my child with you? You should've been the one dead!"Colin instantly retaliated, striking me with such force that I fell to the ground. He gathered Olivia into his arms again, his voice full of fury. He growled, "You're insane! Olivia already told you it was an accident, and you're still throwing a tantrum?""A tantrum?" I shot back, trembling with

I let out a cold laugh as I thought, "Colin, you're really something else, aren't you? Are you just waiting for me to die so you can hand over my kidney to your precious Olivia?"It was hours before Colin finally showed up in my hospital room. He stood there, looking like he had every right to demand this, saying, "Oh, you're awake? Good. Get some rest, but not too much—Olivia needs your kidney as soon as you're ready."I sneered, refusing to hold back my fury. "Absolutely not! There's no way I'm giving my kidney to that murderer! I'd rather die first. I never want to see her again!""Norah—" Colin started to lash out at me, but his words faltered when he noticed Olivia running away in tears. Without a second thought, he bolted after her."Disgusting! What a shameless pair!" I spat bitterly, hatred twisting in my gut. I hated myself for not seeing Colin's true colors earlier. Because of that blind trust, my baby—my three-year-old child—was gone forever. The crushing grief of los

"Look! Guess who this is!" Michael called out with excitement.Colin lifted his head, his face showing confusion. But when his eyes landed on the small, delicate figure standing nearby, his expression froze in shock. His eyes widened, and with hurried, increasingly larger strides, he rushed forward and pulled her into a tight embrace."See? I wasn't exaggerating! Isn't this an amazing surprise?" Michael said proudly."Y-Yes... It really is… Olivia…" Colin whispered, clutching her as tears rolled down his face. I had never seen him this emotional before, and for a moment, I was stunned."I'll leave you two lovebirds to enjoy your reunion!" Michael said with a playful grin before leaving."Olivia, you're alive? I can't believe it! This is incredible!" Colin exclaimed, his voice trembling."I missed you so much, Colin," Olivia murmured softly, resting her head against his chest. "I was so scared... I was scared I'd never see you again."In reality, Olivia had never ventured deep in

Colin's previously relaxed expression instantly hardened, his brow furrowing tightly. He asked, "Kyle, why do you keep going to her? "There's no way she's dead! It's only been a few days! Olivia didn't die, so how could she?"Kyle's face was streaked with tears as he protested, "Mr. Shaw, I swear—Mrs. Shaw is really gone! How can you say something like that? Do you actually think that I'm conspiring with her to lie to you? I would never!"Colin pressed his fingers to his temples in frustration. "Enough, Kyle! Out of respect for my late parents, I've tolerated you long enough. But tomorrow, I want you gone from the Shaw family. We don't need someone like you anymore."I had thought Colin might finally release me, but instead, he fired Kyle—one of the few people who had shown me compassion. The next day, Colin gently woke Olivia, his voice soft and warm. "Baby, it's time to wake up. It's almost noon. Come see what I've prepared for you!"Olivia wrapped her arms around his neck, he

I watched them from a distance, tears welling in my eyes. Their lively, joyful world felt like it existed in an entirely different universe from mine—a place where I no longer belonged."Colin, where's Norah?" I heard Olivia ask sweetly. "She's not still hiding, is she? All because she refuses to donate her kidney to me? I mean, is she really going to ignore her own parents?""Exactly! Bring that stubborn girl out already!" Mom's voice rang out, sharp and bitter. "It's just a kidney! It's not like she'll die from giving it away. Why does she have to be so dramatic?"My heart sank, turning cold at her words. That was how it had always been—my parents never sided with me. No matter the situation, they expected me to make sacrifices for my cousin.Whenever Ethan and Hazel gave me anything nice, my parents would snatch it away and hand it to Olivia, saying things like, "Norah, you don't deserve something like this."Even when I found joy in painting, they robbed me of it. One day, Oli

The trees outside looked lifeless, frozen in the chill of winter. Not a single leaf remained on their branches. Inside the mansion, flowers bloomed vibrantly, a stark contrast to the dead landscape beyond. After the lavish luncheon, Colin drove to the cave where I was imprisoned. He stood outside, his voice cold and commanding. "Norah, have you realized your mistake yet? Just apologize, and I'll let you out."But I could not speak anymore. My body had given up, my voice silenced forever. Hearing no response, Colin grew irritated and sneered, "All I asked was for you to donate a kidney to Olivia. You'd only lose one, but she's losing her health! You should be reflecting on your selfishness!"With that, he turned to leave without a shred of remorse. At that moment, Kyle suddenly emerged from the shadows. Despite being fired, he still came back, desperation etched across his face. "Mr. Shaw, something's wrong—Mrs. Shaw is in danger!"Colin did not even glance at him. "Get lost." Ev

"Mrs. Shaw, how could you be gone so soon?" Kyle cried out in shock at the sight of my twisted, lifeless body, before collapsing to the ground in a faint. Some of the bodyguards panicked and scattered, while others remained frozen, covering their noses and mouths. After so many days—even in the cold—I had already begun to decompose. The stench was overwhelming. However, there was one person who did not shield himself from the smell—Colin. He stood there, wide-eyed, as if unable to comprehend what he was seeing. Slowly, he approached and knelt beside me.He stared at my lifeless face, darkened and discolored, my features frozen in agony. My outstretched hand reached forward, as though I had died clawing for freedom. The ground bore the marks of my desperate kicks, and the wooden door was covered in bloody scratches from my fingernails."Norah, stop pretending! Get up! Come on, wake up!" Colin stammered, his voice shaking as he lifted my limp body into his arms. "Enough! Norah, open

I instinctively replied, "Yes, I'm done."A man in a white robe appeared behind me like a ghost and said, "Congratulations, Ms. Martinez. Because of your kind nature, your soul is pure. From now on, you can join the direct department of the underworld."Then, I realized that I was also a ghost. I excitedly circled around him and asked, "Are you White Enforcer? What about Black Enforcer? Where is he?""Who's Black Enforcer? I don't know anyone by that name.""The one dressed in black, your colleague," I pressed on, curious."Sorry, all my colleagues wear white. No one wears black. And you, Norah, will be wearing a white uniform too."He looked at me seriously and added, "My name is White Sentinel, not White Enforcer! Now, follow me.""But—""No buts."When I suddenly stopped in my tracks, he turned around and glanced at me. He asked, "What's wrong? Don't waste my time, Ms. Martinez.""Will all the people who died become your colleagues? I mean..."White Sentinel replied, "Oh,

Without wasting any time, Colin shoved the rag back into their mouths and dragged them into the bedroom, like he was hauling dead dogs.In the bedroom, several barrels of gasoline were set up. I could not believe my eyes as I finally realized that he was going to burn them alive. My adoptive parents also realized the danger and struggled desperately, but it was useless. At that moment, I finally saw just how strong Colin was. He threw them on the floor, splashed gasoline around them, and, with terror in their eyes, he dropped a match by the door. With a loud boom, the fire erupted, roaring to life. As the flames raged behind him, Colin slowly stepped out of the villa, muttering, "These are the last two. Everyone who ever hurt you has paid for their sins, Norah. Do you see it?"He added, "Oh wait, there's one more. Don't worry, Norah, he'll be joining them soon."A chill ran down my spine when I heard those words. Afterward, Colin sped back to our home, Riverside Villa. In my bedr

Colin gripped the steering wheel with one hand and dialed a phone number with the other. As soon as the call connected, he asked, "Hello? Is everything ready? Where are they?" The person replied, "Everything's ready. They're at the villa on the west side of town.""Got it."After he hung up, I could see a fire burning in his eyes, though I had no idea who that fire was meant for. Soon enough, I found out. The villa in the west was my parents' house—no, my adoptive parents' house. It was laughable that I did not know the truth about why I was never really loved until Colin pulled out the paternity test. It turned out I was not their biological child at all. It was such a twisted joke. I still had no idea what Colin planned to do to them.Once we entered the villa, the first thing I saw was my adoptive parents tied up and struggling against their restraints. When they saw Colin enter, they desperately twisted their bodies, hoping he would notice them and release them. But of co

Colin drove back to the familiar, dark, gloomy warehouse—only this time, there was a hidden room. Colin dragged Olivia in, forcefully pushing her into the small, locked room."No, no! I'm afraid of the dark! Please let me out!" Olivia screamed, pounding on the door frantically. No one could hear her except for Colin, standing outside. He sneered, "Heh! You're afraid of the dark? Wasn't Norah afraid of it too?"He continued, "I just want you to experience what Norah went through. Can't handle it, huh? Then why did you let Norah go through it?"Olivia slammed against the door, her hands bruising, clearly terrified. "Enough! Enough! Let me out! I wasn't doing it on purpose! I was just going along with things!""Yes! You were just going along with things, and I'm the one who truly killed Norah! Don't worry, once I'm done with you, I'll make things right with Norah!" Colin laughed bitterly, his face twisting into a cruel grin.He added, "But Olivia, what you're experiencing is just th

Colin shouted, "No way! How could I marry such a disgusting woman!" It finally hit Olivia that Colin was behind this, and she exclaimed, "It's you, Colin! You did this!""Yes, it's me! I wanted everyone to know your true colors!" Colin looked at her as though she were something filthy. He was filled with repulsion. He continued, "Your parents switched you at birth with Norah. You've enjoyed all the wealth and status from the Martinez family, and had the love of two parents. But that wasn't enough, was it? "You also had to bully Norah! Beneath that pretty face is a heart that is utterly vile—you bullied your classmates, slept around, and even slandered Joey, claiming the child wasn't mine. You bribed people to push her toward death! You're truly wicked!"Olivia yelled, "Shut up! Aren't you the one who really killed her?"Ethan and Hazel suddenly rushed onto the stage, grabbing Colin's hands. They asked desperately, "Did you say Norah is our child? Is that true?"Colin replied,

At the Riverview Villa, a grand engagement party was being held. Since I had moved into the villa, I had never seen such an extravagant event. Guests flooded in, and reporters with cameras did not even know which big shot to focus on. Meanwhile, Olivia stood at the center of the stage, dressed in a stunning gown, looking every bit like a princess. She said, "Thank you all for coming to our engagement party. Please enjoy our love story."My parents, along with Olivia's, immediately clapped their hands. They cheered, "Olivia, you're the most beautiful girl ever! We wish you the best for your marriage!"Olivia blushed and looked sweetly shy, while Colin stood beside her, looking indifferent. It was as if he was not the groom.Scenes began flashing on the big screen, and the guests immediately started whispering among themselves."My God! Is that really Olivia? She's so evil!""Not only did she secretly bully her classmates, but she was dating so many guys at once!""I can't belie

"Did you hear that, Norah? This is the first person I've gotten rid of for you." Colin gently stroked the ribbon; his expression was twisted. I could hardly believe Colin had become so consumed by madness.Similar news stories filled the TV from various channels—car accidents, fires, electrocutions, and falls into rivers. Each piece of news followed by the loss of one more life, all those who had once guarded me in the cave.I coldly followed Colin, watching as he carefully tidied himself, becoming as sharp and polished as ever, his charm intact. He stood outside Olivia's room and said, "Olivia, Norah and I are divorced now. Here's our divorce certificate."He placed two certificates right in front of Olivia. I saw Olivia's lips curl into a sneer, but then she quickly ran into Colin's arms, smiling sweetly, "That's amazing! Colin! Now we can be together forever!"Colin shoved her away with disgust, but spoke gently, "That's great, Olivia. I've decided we'll have a grand engageme

"Hey... I've arranged everything. You'll be well compensated," Colin said coldly as he hung up the phone, his gaze fixed on the bare tree trunks outside the window. The people in the villa were still asleep, but Colin drove off alone. I did not know where he was going, but I followed him closely. Soon, he arrived at a dark, gloomy warehouse.A person was tied to a chair inside. I focused and realized it was my first bodyguard, the one who had run away when I'd died. He probably thought I smelled too bad.Colin picked up an iron rod and, without saying a word, smashed all ten of the bodyguard's fingers. The man screamed in pain, but his mouth was covered, so he could only sweat profusely. After smashing his fingers and toes, Colin took a rag out and slowly began his next actions. He shouted, "Tell me! Why didn't we hear Norah's cries for help?"The bodyguard gritted his teeth and refused to speak, but Colin threatened him, "A human body has 206 bones. How many do you think I can br

"Olivia came back from abroad, and Colin was so happy...""Olivia visited the Shaw family, and Colin actually skipped work to come back...""Olivia needed a driver, and Colin went. When Olivia drank too much, Colin went to pick her up...""Olivia said she didn't like kids, so Colin stopped holding Joey. Joey cried for his dad...""Colin...""I'm tired... I'm letting go..."From the excitement of young love to the coldness that followed, my diary had witnessed all my thoughts. Now, those thoughts were all laid out in front of Colin.I saw him holding his face, tears slipping through his fingers as he repeatedly whispered, "Norah, I'm sorry. I know I was wrong; I really was wrong."Nonetheless, Colin knew it was pointless to say all this as I was already long dead and could not listen to any of his apologies. He had not cherished me when I was alive, and now that I was gone, he finally realized his mistakes. It was too late for regret. I was already dead, and even if I could hea
