Chapter 1

My Sassy 1

I stood in front of my mirror, adjusting the sleek black dress that I’d picked out after trying on at least six others. It wasn't really my thing to attend this kind of grand party. After all, I am not the type of person who likes this luxurious event. I would rather lay on my bed, wearing sweatshirts, and watch a movie.

I sigh.

Tonight’s charity gala wasn’t something I was looking forward to, but it came with the territory of my job. Why does she have to get sick at this time? Why? I wanted to smack my friend's head for getting sick at times like this, but what would it do?

I sighed, smoothing a stray lock of auburn hair behind my ear. These events always felt like a chore—a room full of people pretending to care about each other while secretly calculating how they could get ahead.

I really hate this. Just now I feel so tired; I haven't been to that party yet.

“Alright, Aliyah, let’s get this over with,” I muttered to myself as I grabbed my clutch and headed out the door.

There is nothing I can do, even if I complain. Antonette is sick, and she always attends this kind of thing. Usually, I'm always put in formal meetings because that's what I want. Because everyone knows that I don't like luxurious parties, they never put me in this kind of event. When I arrived, I was immediately amazed. I'm not amazed because I've only seen something like this, but how magnificent it is.

The venue was every bit as grand as I’d expected, with crystal chandeliers, expensive champagne, and people dressed to impress. I slipped into work mode, offering polite smiles and firm handshakes as I made my way through the crowd.

Of course, they know me. It's not because I don't go to this kind of party; I'm not known anymore. Well, they knew me because I am one of those hard people to deal with when having business talks. Those honest business people liked me, but those who don't wish they had never met me. Because I'm not defeating them. They thought I didn't know anything.

These events were about networking, making connections that would push my career forward, and also about the company I work for. I am an executive, so this is normal for me. But tonight, I couldn’t shake the feeling of exhaustion that had been creeping up on me all week. Maybe it was just one too many late nights at the office.

If only I could go home immediately, I couldn't.

“Aliyah, over here! ”Marianne’s voice rang out above the hum of conversation. I spotted her waving at me from across the room. Finally, I also know a lady that I agree with. I've been looking for this woman for a while, but I just found her now.

I pasted on a smile and made my way over, already preparing for a night of small talk. This kind of event is boring to me, so I really need someone to talk to.

As Marianne chattered on about the latest office gossip, I let my eyes wander. There is nothing new in the gossip that Marianne tells me. I knew about it, but I couldn't confirm it. Now that Marrianne is telling me that one by one, it's confirmed. After all, Marianne is the type of lady who won't tell a lie. But it will spit the turth.

While looking around, that’s when I saw him—Logan Pierce. The name was familiar, of course. He was one of those tech billionaires who seemed to have it all: money, power, and the works. But seeing him in person was different. He is different from the ones I see on television, magazines, news papers, and even the internet. He had this presence that was hard to ignore, even from across the room. He was surrounded by people, yet he looked detached, almost like he wasn’t really there.

I should’ve looked away; I should’ve focused on the conversation I was barely part of, but something about him caught my attention. Maybe it was the way he stood—confident but somehow weary. Or maybe it was just that he was different from the usual crowd of self-important executives I was used to dealing with. Either way, I told myself it didn’t matter. I had enough on my plate without adding someone like Logan Pierce to the mix.

I don't want to have more problems. It's okay that after the party, I'll leave and rest in my condo instead of dealing with other problems.

But, of course, fate had other plans.

So sometimes I get really annoyed with fate. It's like fate doesn't want to silence my world.

“Aliyah Whitmore,” a voice said from behind me, smooth and authoritative. Shit. I turned and found myself face-to-face with Logan Pierce. Up close, he was even more striking. His eyes were dark and intense, and they seemed to see right through me. Why is this man here right now in front of me? “I’ve heard about you,” he continued, and there was something in his tone—like he was testing me.

“Likewise,” I replied, keeping my voice steady. Who will not hear news about this man? He is the content of news outlets almost every day. He even beat actors and other people in the entertainment industry. “Though I doubt we travel in the same circles.”

That's right, we're not in the same circle. So, please, get your ass out in front of me.

“Maybe not,” he said, a small, almost teasing smile on his lips. “But your name has come up quite a bit lately. You’ve made an impression.”

I raised an eyebrow, not sure what he was getting at. “Is that so? I wasn’t aware I was on your radar.”

He shrugged, still smiling, but there was something guarded in his eyes. “I’m curious about people who stand out. And you do, Ms. Whitmore.”

I wasn’t sure if that was supposed to be a compliment or something else. “I’m not easily impressed by names, Mr. Pierce. I prefer actions to words.”

His smile faded slightly, replaced by a more serious expression. “Then I guess I’ll have to show you what I can do.”

Before I could respond, someone called his name, and he glanced over his shoulder. His attention was pulled away. He looked back at me for a moment, his eyes lingering like he wanted to say more, but then he nodded and walked off.

The really rich, what? There is no respect at all. I just left suddenly and didn't say goodbye. He was the first to come. Oh my gosh, I'm getting annoyed.

I watched him disappear into the crowd, feeling a mix of curiosity and caution. There was something about Logan Pierce that felt like trouble—the kind of trouble I’d learned to avoid. But as much as I wanted to shrug it off, I couldn’t shake the feeling that this wasn’t the last time our paths would cross. Whether I liked it or not, something told me that Logan Pierce was going to be a part of my life, one way or another.

The next morning, I woke up with a slight headache—a reminder that I’d had one too many glasses of champagne at the gala. I groaned, rolling over in bed and burying my face in the pillow. I really regret going to the gala. Even though that wasn't in my plan, now it won't happen again. That's right; I won't let it happen again. My phone buzzed on the nightstand, and I reached for it with one eye open. I frowned because, in the morning, people were going to crash into my sleep. Won't they give me a break? I just got back from last night's gala, and I'm exhausted. It was a message from Marianne, filled with emojis and exclamation points, talking about how amazing the night had been and how Logan Pierce had actually talked to me. Isn't this woman losing energy? She was like this last night. He insists that I am lucky that one Logan Peirce spoke to me. Why am I lucky? Maybe Logan is even luckier. I almost rolled my eyes at what I was thinking earlier. It has been confirmed that Mari

The following week passed in a blur of meetings, deadlines, and the usual grind of work. I purposely did a lot to get Logan out of my mind. It's hard for me to get this person out of my mind. I tried to put Logan Pierce out of my mind, focusing on the work I was running. But no matter how hard I worked or how late I stayed at the office, he kept creeping back into my thoughts. Why can't I get Logan out of my mind? What is wrong with that man? His offer to collaborate lingered, tempting me even as I tried to convince myself that getting involved with someone like him was a bad idea. But sometimes things are really scary. Logan is not an ordinary person. He's a powerful man and it's really scary to fight him but I don't intend to be afraid of him either. It just makes me think. By Friday, I was running on caffeine and willpower alone. The office was mostly empty, with only a few stragglers finishing up their work before the weekend. I'm not used to leaving early. Not because of the a

The Monday morning air was thick with anticipation. I arrived at the office early, hoping to get a jump start on the week and focus entirely on the project at hand. I wanted to star m day as busy as I could since I have a lot of things I really needed to finish things up in my plate. However, I got distracted when my phone vibrated. Well, I usually have it as loud as I could but since I am in my work, I make it in silent mode. Of course, Logan Pierce lingered at the edges of my thoughts like an uninvited guest. I really have this something that I couldn't shrug. Why would this man wouldn't stop contacting him. Yes, I felt something too but somehow, this man, he's too persistent. Our night at the bar had blurred the lines between work and whatever was beginning to simmer beneath the surface. Well, it wasn't a big deal but it was also kind off not easy to be involved. It left me unsettled, off-balance, and I hated feeling that way. I liked control. I needed it. But with Logan, contro

I was buried in emails when a soft knock sounded on my office door. I looked up to see Logan leaning against the frame, a hint of mischief in his eyes. “Busy?” he asked. “Always,” I replied, not breaking stride on my keyboard. “What’s up?” He stepped inside, looking oddly formal, even a little nervous, which caught my attention. Logan Pierce wasn’t one to fumble over words. He waited until I looked up, raising a brow, before he said, “I wanted to ask if you’d join me as my date for a fundraiser event tomorrow night.” His words hung in the air, and I blinked in surprise. “Date?” I repeated, as if testing the weight of the word. “Yeah,” he said, smiling. “It’s a charity event at the Met. Black tie, very much a who’s-who situation. I thought you’d make a better impression than anyone else I could bring.” He gave me a slight smirk, though I could tell he was waiting for my answer. I leaned back, crossing my arms. “And you think it’s a good idea to bring a colleague as your da

Logan was clearly the star of the night. Investors and executives gravitated towards him, eager to exchange a few words, their hands reaching out to shake his. I stood beside him, listening to the business banter with polite interest, occasionally chiming in when Logan glanced my way. I was nursing a glass of champagne, my mind half in the conversation when I noticed a woman with striking red lipstick and a determined stride make her way toward us. She was beautiful, dressed in a slinky black gown that left little to the imagination, and the moment her eyes landed on Logan, I knew what was coming. “Logan,” she purred, sliding her arm around his like they were old friends, completely ignoring me. “It’s been far too long.” Her smile was suggestive, her gaze lingering on him in a way that left little doubt about her intentions. Logan looked a bit taken aback, but before he could respond, I decided to save him the trouble. “Oh, I’m sorry,” I said, stepping forward with a dazzling

Aliyah knocked on Logan’s hotel room door, her heart pounding with worry. After the chaos at the event, she'd insisted on accompanying him back to his room, wanting to make sure he was alright after being drugged. Logan opened the door, looking slightly better but still affected, his gaze hazy yet intense. She helped him inside, guiding him toward the couch. But as she leaned in, she felt his body shift closer, his arm brushing against her back as he steadied himself. Then she felt it—a tension between them that was impossible to ignore. Logan’s gaze drifted down, his face inches from hers, his breathing slow and deliberate. “Aliyah,” he murmured, his voice thick with desire. “Stay. Please.” Her body responded before her mind had the chance to reason it out. She could feel a warmth blooming within her, mirroring his intensity. She wanted to pull away, to tell him it wasn’t right, but something in her hesitated. Maybe it was the way he looked at her, raw and vulnerable, or maybe

Aliyah stirred, blinking as sunlight crept through the curtains, pulling her from sleep. Her head was nestled in the soft hotel pillows, her body a delicious ache from the night before. But as the memories of last night rushed back—Logan’s hands on her skin, the taste of his lips, the warmth of his body—her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. “Oh, no…” she murmured, pressing a hand over her face. She’d given in, something she swore she wouldn’t let happen. Groaning, she stretched, wincing at the soreness that reminded her just how intense things had gotten. She had let herself go, completely. After a few moments of struggling with her mixed feelings, she looked over to the other side of the bed. Empty. Logan’s side was cool, the sheets neatly smoothed, and for a second, her heart sank. Had he left her here without a word? “Seriously?” she muttered under her breath, feeling a pang of disappointment. She had trusted him, opened up to him in a way she never thought she would. And now

I stepped into my father’s office, instantly comforted by the familiar smell of leather and mahogany. He was buried behind a mountain of paperwork, only glancing up briefly to acknowledge me with a warm smile. “Hey, sweetheart,” he called, waving me over. I leaned against the desk, watching him work, until he finally set his pen down and gave me his full attention. “So,” he began, eyes twinkling, “how was the event? Did you get any closer to Mr. Pierce?” His teasing tone held an underlying sincerity, and I couldn’t help but smile at how well he knew me. I rolled my eyes playfully but answered honestly. “It was good, actually. Logan’s… different than I expected.” I hesitated, my curiosity bubbling to the surface. “But, Dad, can I ask you something?” “Of course,” he replied, looking at me intently. I took a deep breath, feeling a mixture of concern and curiosity. “You know what people say about Logan, right? The rumors… Doesn’t it worry you? I mean, you’re not at all concerned

As the evening wore on, the atmosphere between Logan and me became increasingly charged. The wine flowed freely, each glass amplifying the laughter and light teasing that danced between us. The flavors of the exquisite food lingered on my palate, but it was the chemistry in the air that truly intoxicated me. By the time we finished dessert, the world outside felt distant and hazy, and the heat between us was undeniable. Logan leaned closer, his gaze intense, and I could feel my heart racing as I caught the flicker of desire in his eyes. “Do you want to continue this somewhere more private?” he suggested, his voice low and inviting. A thrill shot through me. The playful banter, the way he looked at me, the electric connection we shared—it all drew me in. “You mean… your penthouse?” I asked, feigning innocence but knowing exactly what he was hinting at. “Yeah, something a little more intimate,” he replied, his lips curling into that charming grin that made my knees weak. “I prom
