Maxwell approached Jennifer and sat down beside her. His gaze was glossy as he held her silently.

Jennifer hadn't betrayed him because she knew this was all part of Rachel's scheme. In truth, she wanted Maxwell to experience the pain of betrayal more than anyone else.

Maxwell asked, "Jennifer, do you really not remember your past? It wouldn't matter even if you did. But I don't want to be deceived anymore. I don't know who I can trust."

Jennifer suddenly chuckled. "What past? I only know what Rachel told me. Was she telling the truth? Did you kill my father, abandon me, and have a child with her?"

Maxwell paused. He remembered how he had let Jennifer down, driving her to abort their child and leave him. He didn't dare to revisit those memories with her.

He mumbled lowly, "No, I didn't kill your father. He really did commit suicide. Jennifer, I may not be a good man, but I would never cross that line. Otherwise, I wouldn't deserve your love."
