Chapter 69

Jocelyn tried to act nice and went over to hold Jennifer's hand, but Jennifer quickly dodged her.

"Oh, Jennifer. How could you speak to your grandmother like this? You really have misunderstood her," Jocelyn said with a smile that didn't reach her eyes. "Your grandmother is just worried you wouldn't be treated well in the Lance family and that you might end up wasting away your youth without getting anything in return."

Jennifer was realizing all the more that these women hadn't asked her to come over for any simple reason. Jocelyn reminded her of the phrase "There was no smoke without fire".

"Why did you ask me to come here today?" Jennifer asked, brows knitted together. "I'm going to leave now if there's nothing else."

Agnes called after her, "Wait, you ungrateful child! I'm only upset to see you being so disrespected in the Lance family. We're your mother's relatives after all. We can't just sit and do nothing to help."

Jennifer snorted and asked, "How do you plan to help me?
