Suddenly, Jennifer's stomach fluttered with butterflies.

Maxwell had called her "honey". It was the first time he had called her that.

She felt as though she could drown in his gentleness.

Maxwell tucked her in snugly and said, "I'm going to take a shower. I've had a long day."

Thoughts from earlier weighed on Jennifer's mind. Finally, she could not hold it back any longer.

"Is there so much to do? You've been tied up at the office all day, right?" she asked indirectly.

Maxwell paused momentarily. Then, he nodded. "Yeah, there's too much going on."

Jennifer's gaze darkened. It was as if a thick black curtain had enveloped her heart, making it difficult to breathe.

Maxwell had clearly accompanied someone to the hospital, yet he did not mention anything about it.
