"Who said you could come here and spout nonsense, Jennifer Yale?" Maxwell said darkly. "Why are you announcing your status to everyone now? Are you trying to use public opinion against me?"

Jennifer hadn't expected him to think of her that badly.

She suddenly realized that he had fired the receptionist not because he was standing up for her, but because he needed to shut everyone up. It was a subtle threat.

She felt cold all over.

Maxwell was a ruthless man. She would never understand what was going through his mind.

"I just hope you can let Laura off lightly. I didn't want to announce our relationship either," Jennifer said meekly. "Laura only did it because of me. She's hot-tempered."

Maxwell turned suddenly and stalked over to her. "Do you know how badly you hurt Rach?" he roared. "She's a dancer. You dislocated her arm. This is going to be detrimental to her career! You hate Rachel, don't you, Jennifer Yale? You told Laura to beat her up!"

Jennifer almost cried in grievance.
